So far this typically was what happened. Times are changing, though, so it's not easy to predict whether alts will see a similar pump as in late 2017. After all, more people are somewhat educated nowadays and chances are they won't be pumping all kinds of shitcoins next time. Otoh, every new ATH brings crypto to the attention of new people, so all kinds of alts may find new fans. Wouldn't surprise me either.

Traditionally, also alts have had higher leverage on an overall market movement (both ways, up and down), which imo is correlated with the fact that most alts are traded mostly against BTC (or ETH, for that matter). Therefore, if they want to buy, let's say, STEEM, they would have to buy BTC with USD first (which would bring the USD/BTC price up), and then the would buy STEEM with BTC, pushing the STEEM / BTC price. This obviously only happens if a lot of people do that, but could explain why we've been seeing that a lot in the past.

Yeah, it's really possible if we have to look at the previous bull run (2017). So we might see the alt market getting alive again after the block halvening in 2020. Actually we don't have to look further, during the last flash increase, we did see some alts recovered, like ETH who almost reaches $200 when bitcoin goes to $10k last weekend.

And we all know that all coins are based on bitcoin (trading pair), so obviously there is correlation and we can't deny that.

Hmm, it is possible again to altcoins go Bullish. But nobody want that the day when will come. But we can expect that when Altcoins dominance will higher than btc then we can see another horse run of Alts.

I don't know when btc will touch again 20k alts will be bull or not. But if btc again touch 20k$ it will be a positive sign for all crypto. And markets can go up heavily.

The altcoin season will arrive when Bitcoin has already hit the all-time high and is about to go on a correction. That is the perfect time for altcoins to soar really high. That can be explained because when Bitcoin is bullish it is inevitable for altcoin holders to sell their coins for Bitcoin. But when Bitcoin has already reached record highs it is normal also for people to use their expensive Bitcoin to buy the cheap altcoins, and also to avoid the correction. This is the reason why altcoins will soar next to Bitcoin.

Yes possible, since altcoin can give much higher profit , traders will move on that altcoin to earn higher amount 100 % is small profit if you trade in altcoin season  , but be careful choosing an altcoin to buy not all of them will spike if the bitcoin price increase more of them is totally dead already.

I hope not. But I wouldn't mind seeing top altcoins moving up according to their improvements, development, usefulness etc.

 Better as newbie to invest in top altcoins with potential  than unknown projects. Though I believe few unknown/new coins with great use case will eventually rank up too. Those are the ones you should probably be looking for to invest in too.
 Know what you are looking for though to avoid investing in scams.

IMO everybody now is more careful, more cautious than the alt boom in 2017. Even if we see a new 20K Bitcoin, people will stick to Bitcoin and the few main Alts. Nobody will rush itself into unknown alts just because Bitcoin is 20K again.

Even if BTC crosses the 20k$ mark, majority of altcoins won't increase in satoshi value (maybe they might increase in dollar value) because most people will be selling their altcoins at any available price to get in the bitcoin rally. Altcoin season will only come when BTC soars that high then start moving sideways. For instance if people start diverting their profit made from a BTC rally to alts, then we expect an uptrend for altcoins.

Yes, it is likely that a new altcoin season will increase when bitcoin hits or exceeds the $ 20k level. when bitcoin will reach that price point, meaning that not all altcoins will increase; we hope one day not only for altcoins with real potential for growth.

We will absolutely see altcoin recover when Bitcoin breaches its all-time high but I do not think we are going to see altcoin go crazy again because people tend to learn from their mistake, not to mention there might be regulation take place before we are seeing it in the future. Exactly what i thought since investors became smarter now so only top altcoins will gain if ever bitcoin set a new ATH. i also think that its more likely possible for top altcoin to rise after the pump because i'm sure that they will sell their bitcoin and convert it to strong coins in order to increase their profit in the long run.

That might happen. If we look at 2017 when bitcoin touched its highest price, altcoin began to creep up. This is part of the economy. If we imagine it, world oil prices rise, the prices of other needs will also rise. Maybe it's that simple logic. But still always be careful, do not be deceived by Fomo or others. Always do according to your own analysis.

As of now, we do not know what the future holds. Because bitcoin's popularity is different then and now. It is therefore uncertain if altcoins will meet the strong demand for bitcoin once bitcoin halving has arrived.
Because as others say investors will put their money into buying bitcoin. Reason for the price of altcoins to fall before halving comes.

Why is it that people keep referring to this 'altcoin season'?  Stop it with the monkey see, monkey do crap.

I was just taking a look at the dash price chart, and it looks like it did increase along with bitcoin when the latter was reaching its all time high, but sometimes dash increased independently...so I guess it just depends.  Altcoins are generally priced in terms of bitcoin, but that can vary.  However I do think if bitcoin started to approach $20,000 again, the bull market would probably be in full swing and alts would be on fire as well.  That's what happened last time in 2017.

And I'm looking forward to when bitcoin does get back to where it was.  It might take a year or more, but it *will* happen.

The best thing about this last bull run is that it's exposed to newcomers how truly awful some bitcoin maximalists are. It's this mindset which will make people end up losing their BTC gains once the altcoin season starts and people FOMO their BTC at all manner of projects when they see people earning 50x-100x in a matter of weeks without having to even much unlike with BTC where you have to spend significant money to make major gains.

Crypto is so volatile, and I don't believe ones saying there won't be an alt season. Bull season affects both Bitcoin and altcoins. there will be definitely be an altcoin season at some point with many people investing in high potential projects on exchanges like Binance and kucoin, due to the potential of higher ROI. Personally I am expecting a good altcoins season in 2021 near the end of the Bitcoin bull cycle.

It is historically possible. How possible? I can’t tell. No one can tell. I am of the believe that Bitcoin will always lead the race. The reason there is trust for altcoins is because of Bitcoin. Bitcoin created that trajectory for others to follow. And more crypto enthusiasts are aware of that now than in 2017. Times have changed? Will history repeat itself? Only time will tell.

Everything is still possible to happen, if the market can improve and not fluctuate by other things, because it will take a long time for bitcoin to go up to 20 thousand dollars, because it's a very large number, it certainly won't be easy to achieve in time close by bitcoin.
