So far this typically was what happened. Times are changing, though, so it's not easy to predict whether alts will see a similar pump as in late 2017. After all, more people are somewhat educated nowadays and chances are they won't be pumping all kinds of shitcoins next time. Otoh, every new ATH brings crypto to the attention of new people, so all kinds of alts may find new fans. Wouldn't surprise me either.

Traditionally, also alts have had higher leverage on an overall market movement (both ways, up and down), which imo is correlated with the fact that most alts are traded mostly against BTC (or ETH, for that matter). Therefore, if they want to buy, let's say, STEEM, they would have to buy BTC with USD first (which would bring the USD/BTC price up), and then the would buy STEEM with BTC, pushing the STEEM / BTC price. This obviously only happens if a lot of people do that, but could explain why we've been seeing that a lot in the past.

Yeah, it's really possible if we have to look at the previous bull run (2017). So we might see the alt market getting alive again after the block halvening in 2020. Actually we don't have to look further, during the last flash increase, we did see some alts recovered, like ETH who almost reaches $200 when bitcoin goes to $10k last weekend.

And we all know that all coins are based on bitcoin (trading pair), so obviously there is correlation and we can't deny that.

The altcoin season will arrive when Bitcoin has already hit the all-time high and is about to go on a correction. That is the perfect time for altcoins to soar really high. That can be explained because when Bitcoin is bullish it is inevitable for altcoin holders to sell their coins for Bitcoin. But when Bitcoin has already reached record highs it is normal also for people to use their expensive Bitcoin to buy the cheap altcoins, and also to avoid the correction. This is the reason why altcoins will soar next to Bitcoin.

Even if BTC crosses the 20k$ mark, majority of altcoins won't increase in satoshi value (maybe they might increase in dollar value) because most people will be selling their altcoins at any available price to get in the bitcoin rally. Altcoin season will only come when BTC soars that high then start moving sideways. For instance if people start diverting their profit made from a BTC rally to alts, then we expect an uptrend for altcoins.

That might happen. If we look at 2017 when bitcoin touched its highest price, altcoin began to creep up. This is part of the economy. I was just taking a look at the dash price chart, and it looks like it did increase along with bitcoin when the latter was reaching its all time high, but sometimes dash increased independently...so I guess it just depends.  Altcoins are generally priced in terms of bitcoin, but that can vary.  However I do think if bitcoin started to approach $20,000 again, the bull market would probably be in full swing and alts would be on fire as well.  That's what happened last time in 2017.

And I'm looking forward to when bitcoin does get back to where it was.  It might take a year or more, but it *will* happen.

The best thing about this last bull run is that it's exposed to newcomers how truly awful some bitcoin maximalists are. It's this mindset which will make people end up losing their BTC gains once the altcoin season starts and people FOMO their BTC at all manner of projects when they see people earning 50x-100x in a matter of weeks without having to even much unlike with BTC where you have to spend significant money to make major gains.

Crypto is so volatile, and I don't believe ones saying there won't be an alt season. I'm not sure about to see the next altcoin season and here's my reason as you can see, ATH of altcoin already achieved when almost all of the crypto traders and investors bought ICO. This time it looks very different consider that fewer people are interesting to repurchase ICO or IEO. You can try to create a comparison between ethereum chart when bitcoin was reached 10k in 2018 and the latest chart right now. I thought that you can get a conclusion about that.

I don't even find any correlation between the bitcoin pump and altcoin pump. The only relationship that i could found that from the market when bitcoin pumps and altcoin gets dumped but when altcoin dumped and bitcoin gets pumped. .

this is a question that keeps being asked over and over again. the answer is always the same. the altcoin pumps will come.

but the problem is that if you think bag holding something and hoping it gets pumped to the price you bought it at, is not going to give you back the money you lost. most of the coins you are currently bag holding will be dead by the time next pump begins and those that don't die and do get pumped, won't get pumped nearly as much as before!

so don't get your hopes up. and instead try to learn how to really make profit from pump and dumps without bag holding!

To be honest we are now on alt season. I mean this is right time to buy altcoin if you have enough money to take risk. I mention risk because every investment is quite risky on crypto-currency field. Because you should afford loss during huge dump. Anyway, when btc was 3K alts were shown good trend. And yes it's true most of traders increased their bitcoin that time. But when bitcoin touch 14K all altcoin dump more than 10X. So how we could expect that altcoin will bump when bitcoin will touch 20K although market could move even tomorrow. I am counting on that, unknown alts probably come later again. For the starters i am counting people for going for the older alts, and then there could be something new replacing the fomo of icos/ieos we had. My bet would be huge markets on collectables but that's just a wild guess. Some STO platform could start a trend too, it's really anyone's guess but to guess right on that lottery could be a life changing move.

Value of altcoins let it be increase or decrease is completely dependent on the value of bitcoin. So it's pretty obvious that the value of altcoins will go up if the value of bitcoin increases but when bitcoin reached $13k it was short lived and the value of altcoins did not pump as expected except the recovery of ETH.

Yeah indeed, when bitcoin price goes up then there will be many altcoin who will up as well but I doubt the situation will stay longer and be back again when its price touch the lower price. If you interested to invest on altcoin then it will be better just choose it for short term investment.

That's way too far to expect mate, it takes a long wait just to see the altcoins season begun to shine. Good thing for those who can wait longer, but a sad feeling to those who can't. However, year 2021 is somewhat a maturity stage for altcoins since 2019 short term expectancy was a failure to many holders. Everyone are forgetting the factors that led to the altcoin boom of 2017. The Bitcoin bull run was only a minor factor during that boom. The main trigger was the ICO craze, and it took Ethreum to a massive spike of 100x (when compared to 20x spike that BTC got). Most of the tokens were created using the ERC-20 platform, and this took Ethereum to new heights. And along with Ethereum, the other altcoins such as Litecoin, Monero, Dogecoin and Cardano also moved up. Also back then, a lot of the noobs sold their alts and shifted to altcoins blinded by their greed. Most of these users have exited the cryptocurrency sector now.

It depends on the hype in the mainstream press. In 2017 what happened was as bitcoin got more and more expensive, newbies to the crypto scene thought, "Why not buy an alt instead, they're cheaper and they too might make a new high".

That sentiment was what lifted alts in 2017. Whether they are more savvy this time round remains to be seen.

The previous bullrun peeked the interest of traditional markets and the result was now some already began making their own crypto/blockchains. So, I wouldn't say that there was no development in the previous period and during the bear market, most projects were just in the testing periods.

I think there will be many cryptocurrency prices that will again become expensive, including the price of altcoin because market conditions will certainly be crowded and demand will increase because many will use altcoin to make transactions between markets to be able to take advantage of rising prices of bitcoin and other altcoins.

This price increase has greatly affected this market and I'm sure the value of Bitcoin is currently manipulated so if you choose to invest now there will be a lot of risk. Currently, almost all altcoins are heavily dependent on the value of Bitcoin so any change will make this market more difficult to predict. I invested altcoins last year and it was a very bad time for me because the coins I invested in halved in value making me lose a lot of money.

This year I was more careful and chose to invest only in the top coins to ensure the best returns. Of course, it's not always easy because the bear market is still overwhelming.

It can be seen in the general movements of the charts. Once Bitcoin will reach beyond its all-time high, be very vigilant because it might be the cue for its price to return to the lower level. Once the line takes a u-turn, be quick enough to shift to altcoins. That must be the perfect time for the altcoins to shine after Bitcoin has. And when Bitcoin once again takes the u-turn from the correction or when the altcoins themselves have reached their all-time high, shift to Bitcoin again.

Most altcoins reached their all time highs in January/February of 2018, mainly because of how a lot of speculative capital that was withdrawn from Bitcoin was pumped into altcoins to book additional profits.

These capital shifts have been happening for years so they aren't really special, which I'm sure will happen again eventually, but not as extreme as we have seen it take place back in 2017/2018 due to the retail fomo that was going on.

This prediction is very logical because the current market is easy to manipulate and Bitcoin can increase or decrease at any time if they like. The price of bitcoin moved over $10k but it was down so quickly but as you can see it's trying hard to get into retraction again. I'm okay if we have to wait until 2021, it isn't so long. The problem is, you don't want it to be an almost instantaneous thing. You want it to slowly climb up to $20k and even higher. in this case, we can't seem to depend on the price of bitcoin. we also need growth from altcoin to see prices go crazy again. but, I'm pretty sure, when the price of bitcoin goes up, the price of altcoin won't stand still, and I believe that altcoin will also be affected by bitcoin.

It's not really the price performance of BTC. It's more the money coming into the market and increasing the market cap as a whole. Think about it, if 1,000,000 new people just decided they wanted to invest in crypto tomorrow, there would be a huge increase in the price of BTC and the marketcap. ETH wen't as high as $300 this year, but its only valued half of that amount now.

Just relax and wait for the right timing, ETH won't die as it has a big community support, you see despite of the drop, it still stays at the number 2 spot now. BTC will soon rise, that's for sure, but we need to be patient so we can enjoy that right timing.

I think Altcoin still has a chance to grow with the Bitcoin pump.

The problem is when that will be happening? there is no ETA about that. you can say if the pump can occur anytime but when we are seeing the reality and there is a possibility for the pump will never happen again. We can't estimate the time for such a large scale growth in the market. Earlier this wasn't the way by which the market for bitcoin got to be growing. Possible chances for growth is much associated with the increasing adoption, and that's really the big market to reach.

That for sure. 20k is a pretty huge milestone on the way to the moon considering how 10k was basically meaningful. This sets up for bigger magnitude of next high and what will be triggered by hitting 20k mark should be only a beginning of a 50-60k move. All altcoins will follow exactly as before in this type of situation. What we need is sentiment reset, and while this summer/fall messed with people a little, a new ATH for btc would be more than enough to compensate for it.

I am getting worried because a lot of people are expecting the halving is going to solve all the problems that bitcoin has to maintain its price, and that to me seems to be a big mistake, because I cannot stop thinking about the consequences that will come to the market if that doesn't happen, what will happen if the price does not increase after the halving? I'm worried as well. The Litecoin halving in August showed a surge prior to halving (thanks to speculators anticipating a halving effect) and then the price collapsed.

yes, people will think what happened in 2017 will be repeated again in 2020-2021. but when comparing the volumes of various exchangers the volume is now greatly reduced. maybe most traders/investors are attracting their assets. considering that previously there was a lot of FUDs about hackers too. More than likely, a majority of the altcoins in the market right now are going to be worthless. There's just way too many projects for people to invest in these days. If it's not something in the top 20 or so on coinmarketcap, then I wouldn't even mess with it. There won't be enough money coming in to the market to bump up XYZ coin by very much. Almost everyone will be investing in the most popular coins(BTC, Eth, LTC, TRX, etc.,)

No one know the exact date it will happen but base on the previous bitcoin halving market, bitcoin usually make it new ATH price when it Q3 of the year. Let just hope the previous predictions/analysis dine about the upcoming bitcoin halving market to be disappointed won't happen or cause panic in the market.

Exactly, there's a lot of experts in the market and most of them are wrong, they always based the past trends of bitcoin price or movement but we know it's not the best basis because bitcoin is so unpredictable. If it comes it will come and we can only enjoy that moment if we held something we can sell at a good return.

all want an increase in bitcoin and of course there are many kinds of analysis that occurs. there are those who want to be like 2017, but not the least that is important to be able to reach a crucial figure that is through $ 15K. prediction is just a prediction and no one can be sure, but with an estimate that has never happened.    I think the same, not all alt-coins will rise with the next market pump. People are more experienced now, and next pump will
be different for many alt-coins. Bitcoin on the top will lead the pump, alt-coins with real usage cases will make progress along
with Bitcoin, copy projects, the ones with low volume will fell off. But some alt-coins will go crazy, maybe some will dare to

Bitcoin reached 14k during this year and the altcoin market gave no indication that it was going crazy, and since the difference between 14k and 20k is not that significant I think we are getting a clear indication of how the market may react during the next bull run, investors are not really interested in altcoins anymore, if anything they seem to be tired with them and their endless promises which at the end does not bring them the results they were looking for.
