Is the main purpose in gambling, always to make more money?

Hi have explained in this why in the past, and statically speaking it's always possible that some one hit a "big jackpot" or there are some wise guy that made only certain type of bet (they know how to play...)

bookmaker want that you try to catch this high prize, because more match together implies more difficult (and I think with some numbers it's really impossible win).

I think that no more than 1/100000 gambler are really able to get money from gambling.

Plus I have read in the past some interviews of famous poker players that they explained that yes, they are earning good amount with their poker ability but this is nor less then hard work (likewise remain concentrated 8-12 hours per day in a long tournament).
Same abilities could be used also in other work, it's more a "coincidence" they are a poker players. Obviously people doesn't see this truth and they are playing to "earn" and not for fun

I also think that skill-based games are considered by pro gamblers to make money instead of luck-based games. They really study the strategies and techniques of how to defeat an opponent. You may think that you have lost, but eventually, there is still a chance to win. As long as the fight is not over, there is still hope of winning.

It is quite an irrational way if we consider gambling as an efficient spending of our time. First, we don't have any assurance our funds will be returned if we lost, or if we will really have profit after spending time playing. Second, the skills that you will learn are strictly applicable for future gambling only (Maybe improve logical thinking and mind-reading when playing poker), but it isn't productive IMO. Lastly, the sad truth about gambling is that it can destroy a relationship. If we have a huge amount of time, spend it productively and gamble only in your free time.

If they don't care or not realize the risk of gambling, yes, they will lose all of the assets, and that will not take too long. That is what happens if someone is playing gambling without managing his money and time. I also see many people sell their assets as you say because they have a debt to someone, and they need to repay that money. I also heard that a father is giving his daughter as a second wife for a debt collector because he doesn't have anything to pay. It's a pity because he sacrifices his daughter to give to someone who doesn't love his daughter.

That is a consequence of gambling that we must always realize and know so we don't use family money, and never use it for gambling. Besides that, we should admit that making money from gambling is possible, but there is a risk behind gambling that we must remember.

Lets accept it that even those who are gambling for fun have a desire to get some money inside them. Its just they can take their losses as compare to other gamblers since they are just using a small amount of money for them. Very well said. It is frustrating to see some people claiming that they gamble only for fun and entertainment and money, profits don't matter to them and they do it for fun and to kill time and they have no other intentions. It's flat out lie.

That is totally wrong,because there are some people(only few because majority is for money) that still wanted to go in casino or in local gambling place or even online just to Have some fun and if they win?that would be just a bonus,we Humans has our own way of dealing in things so don't generalize people in gambling place because everyone is not the same and that is not hypocrisy .

The motive to make money always is not of the players but of the house because it wants to make as much profit as it can that's why it's a business but for the player the motive can vary and it can be entertainment or having an escape from daily routine.

Hi, @bitbollo. I'm glad we share the same ideas.

Being a poker player myself(not a pro, but I play this game a lot cos I love it), I can say that not only it would be a hard work, if I tried to make money with it, but it would be also a very risky enterprise. The more you want to win, the more money you put at stake. I absolutely agree with you that the best poker players could also succeed in other fields, and make money in a more relaxing way there.

Even though some gamblers are looking for fun and entertainment, we can't hide that there is also a desire to earn money. If they are only looking for entertainment, there's a lot of things to do that can surely entertain them even without risking money. Even though I say that gambling is for entertainment, I also know that it's not the only reason why I gamble.

Perhaps they just want others to think that they are not into money that is why they gamble but thinking about it, there's no way they don't want to win money. Every gambler aims to win, regardless of what other reasons they have, winning money is always there.

Each time that I have gambled has been just for the pleasure to make a bet, feel the emotion to "guess" the future.

I think this is the first time I realized that the pleasure of guessing the future makes me excited as a gambler aside from winning money of course. I just realized because you just said the right words. I always said that besides winning money, it was for fun. All along I just can't use the right words. I want to be right about the future. Makes sense cause I always talk about guessing something in the future even without money. I just wanted to be right about something. I guess it is connected to my personality or behavior as well in terms of psychology.

So if someone asked me whats my purpose besides earning money, I can just said "I want to be right about the future, I enjoy it".

I think that the goal of almost any type of gambling is to earn money for a casino. 

Most often, people go for entertainment, atmosphere, adventure. Money only adds to the severity of the aftertaste of emotions.
The more influence a person plays with money, the more frustration he will have in case of failure and defeat.

Probably it all depends on the level of your income. If you bet the money you need, you will always be the loser, regardless of the result.

Yeah I agree - a real casino is a place for entertainment and as anywhere in life - they have to make some money. It's great to see someone win big, but thats just the exception. Most of the times you have a good time, win some, lose some. You should definitely be prepared to lose all the money you gambe, because if you don't its just gonna hurt you and you will ruin your day.

I don't think there are many people who can make a living of gambling. So worrying about making money of gambling is just unrealistic. There is a house edge for reason.

Better just to look at gambling as fun,pleasure and entertainment. When you go out a night you will spend a lot of money too on food and drinks. So not worrying about the money you gamble, makes the winnings even sweeter and your losses not so bad.

In this case, it all depends on what kind of games you play.
After all, if you play those victory games in which it depends only on mathematical expectation, then you can probably stay in the game, provided that you do not need to keep your concentration at a high level to calculate probabilities, such as this happens in poker.
