Do the heat sinks mount directly to the chassis to provide more efficient active cooling in e.g. liquid cooled racks / fully contained cabinets?

Our systems are designed for air flow cooling. It doesn't require any exotic cooling infrastructure, liquid or others.
It can be used in a data center environment and in others environment.
Remote admin is possible for users interested in hosting the machine in a data center.
We'll provide our own competitive hosting plans soon.

Do you have overheat protection feature in the firmware (shutting miner off automatically, or better yet auto adjust individual chips) ? If you do, is it configurable ? ( adjusting temp threshold)

If you dont, can it be done? when will it be done?

I think this is absolutely necessary .

Yes, of course, we do DVFS on the ASICs. One of the DVFS parameter is the individual ASIC temperature.
(We have temperature sensors on the ASICs, AC2DC (PSU), DC2DC and three on the PCBs)

However, can you clarify a few things:

DVFS is meant to control the freq of the chips but can it shut off the chip completely to prevent overheating?

What happens when a chip is dead (for whatever reason)? is the FW still able to mine with the rest of the chips (and disabling the dead one) ?

At least in the US, companies are not allowed to void warranties for reasons like this (ie, unless you actually caused the damage).

Just to confirm I have received the tracking number for my evaluation unit!

For obvious reasons I wont tell you the tracking number but it has just passed clearance and is about to get put on a plane.

Forgive me for being suspicious here, but the Hammer chip sounds awfully similar to the one being offered to developers etc by asicminer, (except that it's supposedly a lot more power efficient).

At current price and release date, expected ROI is never... if the price BTC was $800, 15% increment per diff, 0% fee, $0.05 kW/h, you will still lose money, even if the BTC was $1200 - you might just make 1.5 BTC by end of the year.

So, Guy (Spondoolies-Tech CEO) has just dropped by to deliver my sample SP10 – Dawson unit.

Here are some photos of it in operation, right here in my living room:




The first thing to notice is that it's noisy. I heard it would be noisy (pun intended) but thought I could maybe pull it off - and it really is that bad, I'm probably not going to run it at my home. There's a "slient" mode which sacrifices some performance for quiet, but it too doesn't help very much.

Basically, to operate it all you have to do is connect it to power and to the LAN, and access its control panel through the browser in any computer on the network. They've developed the software tools to make operating the device easy, bu there are still software and firmware issues to work out. We had to mess with it a bit until we got it working, but it looks like it will be fixed soon.



What is more interesting is the hardware. I've configured it to connect to my account at Eclipse MC. After running it for a few minutes to let Eclipse sample the hashrate, Eclipse reported a hashrate of 1.4 TH/s (Holy-Fire_3 in the image). It fluctuated a bit, probably due to sampling errors, but it seems inline with the advertised specs.



Update: I measured power consumption at about 1.3 KW (the measurement isn't completely precise though).

Update 2: I'm told there's some optimization process going on while the device is running. Indeed, after running it for a while the hashrate seems to now fluctuate around 1.5 TH/s.

I presume the noise is related to the amount of heat being produced within a small area.   Maybe try adding a desk fan, see if noise relates to room temp
