I joined crypto in 2017 and until now I still find it difficult to find or choose which project I should hold for a long time and it is true that the safest point is to keep your assets in the top 20 coinmarketcap, at least the project already has a very clear roadmap and team.

Choosing the top coins are best for newbies because these coins are already well-established and already here for years. Its unlikely to be delisted in exchanges so even you hold it for long period you dont have to worry. On the other side new coins has risk of it being scam even the project seems good. Scammers are smart to make it look legit so think before investing.

Newbies need to select coin that is really top or popular coin for they will not fall into tragic scam. I beleive that there are so many project,tokens,coin are now scam that is why we need to be careful on investing if we wanted to invest we need to search or sellect the most reliable and trusted tokens or coin for so many years to avoid scams and to make our funds safe.

Newbies investing in the top altcoins doesn't give guarantee of good ROI in future, it's just for safety purpose right? If there is someone to guide a newbie, adding some low/mid cap coins with huge potentials won't be a bad idea. Say 50 % in BTC, 20% ETH, 20% top altcoins and 10% low/mid cap coins, just an instance.

This will depend on the players in trading dude, even they choose the top altcoins in the market, is not the assurance for us to say that their capital is safe already of course not! our profit in trading always lies in our hands' decision of when we are gonna buy or sell the coins we hold in the platform exchange.

I do agree that if you are new then I will advise you to invest in the top 20 coins. These coins and tokens in the top list has been there for years now and it will stay for many more years. Many many crypto currency investors throughout the years have been one way or another has been concentrating in the main coins and been profiteering from it and I think this is the best trend that newbies can follow for the meantime. In every Investment Knowledge is our weapon and experience,But there are chances that some are safer in top 5 coins because if they are going for Long term

But of course changes happens sometimes like XRP and USDT now in which closing changing position since this year started.

Popular coins would have an extensive documentation and help available online which would let them make easy decisions. Rushing into something that you don't understand may make you loose in the long term even if it's legit things like trading and mining.

A novice should start with bitcoin and stable coins. Stay away from all altcoins as their value depends on the price rise of bitcoin. Learn how to convert your assets to stable coins. Get used to the waves of the market and learn to beat them. It is not advisable to start with altcoins as they can cause them to lose money and trust the market.

If you want to invest long-term in this market, you should only buy the top altcoins in the market such as ETH, BNB, XLM, TRX, NEO .. and Bitcoin. Those are the best projects and their price will always grow in the long run, don't waste time on new projects because in the long run its price can crash many times or die any time

They are, but so are other in the crypto space. Even if you are a crypto veteran who has been on the crypto scene for 5+ years, you will always be "safer" holding (for example) ETH than some sub-top 100 altcoin, so the seniority of the individual is not playing a big role here, even if the veterans tend to do their due diligence more often and more thoroughly.

Marketcap is a meaningless statistic. I could create a new token right now, print 1 billion of them, sell a single token to my friend for $10, and now my market cap is $10 billion and I'm the third "top" coin. Just because an altcoin is in the "top 10", means nothing. At least half the coins in the "top 10" are literal scams.

That's a great point. Especially since that newcomers have no way of distinguishing which altcoins are the 1% that actually has something of value to offer. Very often the "top altcoins" are just the ones with the loudest influencers. People who look for the most safe investment would do good by focusing on Bitcoin, but let's be honest - most people are not interested in safe investments, they're after quick money.

It's not about whether it is safe for them investing in the top coins or not. I've seen btc and other well known coins and tokens living the worst scenarios ever let's mention Hedg (HedgeTrade) which is down by almost 20% in the last 24 hours time span. Others like Augur, Eth, Ltc faced the same scenario. I think that even when dealing with famous altcoins, there's big risk. It's all about whether you're experienced or not, whether you can really take the loss or it will turn on some bad feelings in your inner soul. My one and only tip is to do your own research, invest only what you can afford to lose, stay away from FOMO and Fuds and you'll be okay.

Do you guys know any website that basically is something of a repository of information, particularly of reliable projects that all, whether newbie investor or master trader can all participate to and earn money? I have been searching for websites that act as a library of projects that can be invested. That would be a great addition to the almost never ending tools that we can use to become successful in crytocurrency. I hope there is such a website.
