I Just noticed this poll and I think I have a different idea. Please note that I have no problem even to join a charity tournament which will be > 10 mBTC but not everyone will not have this luxury. Having too many tournaments at the same time is going cost everyone a lot and possibly a lot of regulars will consider to skip it too.

Instead of having a separate tournament, we can just make a twist in the current series we have.

Currently the price:

1) 0.05 BTC guaranteed Freeroll for the Finalists, valuable
2) BIG BTC Ticket
3) SwC Flexfit Hat and
4) Whatever the total those 200 extra chips from every tournament from users will make.
5) We have 8 tournament where we are paying 1200 chips in total to earn points for the final tournament. 4 winners from each tournament is sharing the individual tournament's pot.

Idea 1:
Let's talk about those 200 extra chips.
Say 20 users on average in every tournament which means we will collect 32,000 chips which means 0.032 BTC
We can simply donate this entire 0.032 BTC to the charity instead of giving it to the winner. The winners is going to receive enough money from SwC sponsoring.

Idea 2:
Entry fee for each tournament is 1000 + 200 chips and we have two tournaments every week which makes 8 in four weeks. For each week one is paying 2000 + 400 chips to play two tournaments and the goal is basically to earn as many points as they can earn to top in the leader-board.

Have a rule that one can only join the second tournament of the week if he joins the first tournament. And then what if in the first tournament of the week the winner gets the money but in the 2nd tournament of the week all the entry fees will go to the donation address or will be used for donation? This way from each 2nd tournament of the week we can collect 1200 chips from each users. Now if we have 20 player then we get 96,000 chips and this is a very good amount to donate. 0.096BTC is fairly good amount.

If we simplify it then it stands like this: One will pay 2400 chips to play two tournament a week. First one will have prize pot and points but the 2nd one will not have a prize pot but you are playing for points.

Let me know your thoughts.

PS: I am personally is going to donate 50% of my winnings from this series. This counts any winnings.

Appreciate the input mate and appreciate anyone who wants to support the charity thing. I just don’t want things to get „complicated“ and I am afraid this could happen. That’s why I initially suggested to just „allow“ anyone who wants to help to send extra chips, whether upfront or after winning some.

That was quick response from you. I think both can be executed very easily.

Idea 1:
You just send the entire extra chips to the donation address instead of sending it to the winner

Idea 2:
1. Make sure you send the password to ONLY those who paid 2400 chips for both tournaments of the week. So if anyone thinks that they will only join the 2nd tournament of the week then they can not. They can skip playing the 2nd tournament of the week but will have to pay for both.

2. The winners of the 2nd tournament of the week will send the chips to you or to the donation address. We will all know who are the winners so nothing is going behind the doors.

3. End of the series you will send 50% of the extra chips to the donation address and 50% to the grand winner.

Does this look very complicated? I guess not 😉

What I wanted to say: All of that means "additional rules",  sort of...  when most people just want to play some poker. Tbh I don't see a reason why we should implement such "rules" when anyone can freely donate chips as they wish.

As some guys pointed out earlier, donating like half of the estimated prize pool would make the series less attractive and I actually get that.

Don't get me wrong - I am all for helping people in need when they are members of the community all of us obviously "love" - we just shouldn't mix up things too much.

@BitcoinGirl.Club

I don't like your idea very much because it basically forces people to pay up for the charity if they want to be part of the tournament. Charity is something you should choose to do and not be forced to do.

Personally, I would rather send money directly to the charity and will do that if I get full paycheck this month (company in some problems because of corona bullshit) regardless of what ends up decided here. On the other hand I will not give a cent from my poker winnings to anybody. That money is for my enjoyment, beers bought with money taken on the poker table taste better, just try it some time Smiley

I really missed reading others and yet to read. I was just jumping on here after seeing the poll and I am with the majority without any question. I just made my vote for:

Quote
Yes (with a buy-in > 10 mBTC where half goes to charity)

I truly want the charity gets the most.

As usual I will donate 50% of any winnings if I win in this series and in this charity tournament too.

I don't like your idea very much because it basically forces people to pay up for the charity if they want to be part of the tournament. Charity is something you should choose to do and not be forced to do.
Damn you!
I did not have that in mind 😜

+1.

we should really keep them separate. otherwise it messes with all the incentives and less people will wanna play in the series.

i think (hope) we could generate a decent turnout with a separate charity game. as an example, 0.005 BTC x 25 players / 2 = 0.0625 BTC donated. anybody who can't play or wants to add donations on top can do that too.

Gotta keep in mind, these series are lasting 5 weeks in total with the way it has been set up. I'd like to see them go 4 weeks, but it is what it is. The last games prize pool was .09 range including SwC's .05 contribution. The winner got less than .05 for his effort. Let's say .05 for maths sake. That's $450 for a whole month of playing. Not very much.

The buyin is already reaching nearly $10 per game. Not that that is much, but if we keep increasing the buyin amount by adding more for charity or doubling the buyin for charity to take half, you're gonna take the ability to play away from some of the players. You're also going to decrease the final prize and lose interest as well.

I don't like your idea very much because it basically forces people to pay up for the charity if they want to be part of the tournament. Charity is something you should choose to do and not be forced to do.

This is probably the best statement made about the whole idea, which is why the separate game should be the main focus. You guys are free to do as you please, but taking away from the series might cost you some players.

I'd like to see this series get to 50-60 players playing each week, and a prize pool of .150 or bigger in the final game. We will see how that goes.

So far there were really good ideas on the topic charity, but also the objections were good. That certainly does not make the decision easy.  Tongue

If we make an extra charity game, the buy-in should not be too high. Otherwise, some people may not play along, as they cannot afford it. Maybe SwC or Sportsbet sponsor us a charity game with a small price and then the complete buy-in could be used for carity, but that's just an idea and I don't know if that would be possible.  Smiley

This is happening already Smiley

I agree with both of you! Yahoo made a good point, if you add more for charity or interfere with prize pool some players will lose interest! Trofo you are quite right, who wishes to donate will donate, from winnings or from his own pocket.

we should really keep them separate. otherwise it messes with all the incentives and less people will wanna play in the series.

We should keep them separate! We know about initiative, we can make others aware if Efi put something in opening post about it so new people can see it too, and that should be enough! In that case we will have what Trofo said, charity will be something anyone can choose to do or not, end of story!
If Efi and Royce make some charity tournament you can call us to play for that, and probably many of us will join! But let's not mix charity and our series!

Efi thanks for passwords, you are fast! Smiley See you at the tables! Smiley

most people seem to support upping starting stacks to 5k, or otherwise don't care. personally i think it'll make games more fun and yield more action. make it so, @efialtis! Tongue
This could be solved if we could have like a bigger number of people here, people like me who are afraid to go in usually do not go in because of the big buy ins but also even if I lose that is not really a big deal but the anger for being soooo out of league to play here is a bit the problem here, people who are miiiles better than me play here so I do not join, there must be a lot of people like that as well. Which means the prize is actually quite good, it is the number of people that join that keeps it low, just think about 100 people or even 1k people joining to this tourney, then the prize would be insane. However that charity thing makes sense, I could enroll to that one because at that point I know I will lose and will be upset that everyone was so much better than me, but at least the money will go to a charity.

honestly it's a little complicated - for me sure Smiley
but it does nothing, okay. the important thing is that it is written clearly so that everyone can read it first

in the end it's a good initiative, not surprisingly I called some of my old poker friends (introducing him to bitcoins)

i hope they join

Hello People,
I would like to join this series too. I am reading rules and understanding everything. I will get password for the game once I send 200 chips, right? Also, whom should I send 200 chips? I don't see any member with youcantwin username on bitcointalk or is it SwC username? If yes, then what is the name of youcantwin on bitcointalk?

Let's get back to Poker and our 2nd series guys!

I appreciate all the input regarding charity and as mentioned before, I will try to have a separate tournament going and in addition, anyone who would like to donate, is more than welcome to do so.

Only one more day to go, curious to see how many we will be tomorrow. Smiley

Hey,

good to see fresh blood - yeah, you just send 200 chips to "youcantwin" on SwC for each game you wanna join, send me a PM that you did and I will share the password - I am youcantwin... Wink The username speaks for itself by the way...

Shouldn't your username technically be "Icantwin" Smiley

Let the trash talk begin, poker without trash talk is a little blend for my taste

I have to get some funds over.

Is it starting at the same time or is it moved an hour earlier?

Charity - people like to give charity to something they can see or meaningful to them. The hospice where my grandad died or something like that. I think some people will be cynical it can get to the right people via a forum. I mean anyone in real trouble the last thing they are thinking is to log into a forum. I followed the thread and saw an example of how it was used to give stuff to a homeless guy. That's great but will people read the thread to find out there is a way to do it after all. Or will they just switch off to it. So its almost a marketing challenge.

A charity poker game is not a bad idea to bridge this gap. Everyone knows what it is and they get the fun of the poker game from it. And you get the funds to help some people.

The suggestion all buy ins go to the charity is a good one. What if we asked people to donate prizes? doesn't have to be just SwC or IO, could be anyone including members here. The odd collectible, some merchandise like the hats they gave, buy in for a tournament round, a few generous donations from members with something to contribute and then that could lead to more interest to get the bigger numbers (you dream of) for that charity game and so more return for the charity idea.

Good luck with it.

By the way, I stood among Top 10 in 'Play with Steve' tournament previous Wednesday. Don't assume that I'm weak player. My username - BetStrong. It speaks for itself as well. Wink

A friendly bump! We neeeeed more people, hop in and don't miss the action!!!!  Grin

Just over two hours left until the start of the new series. Hurry up, according to the spreadsheet, only 16 have paid their fees so far, which isn't great.

I thought we could certainly get at least 3 full tables...

Anyway, good luck and have fun!
