A lot of Arsenal supporters are clamoring that the club signs a right winger to provide competition for Bukayo Saka before the end of the window.
Imo, there are players you don’t get competition for because competition for them either doesn’t exist or don’t make sense.
Throughout Manchester City’s domination what competition did they get for Kevin Debruyne. What competition did Liverpool get for Mo Salah, and what competition does Madrid have for Vini Jnr.?
For players like Saka who technically are your best players, what you get is a competent backup who will be ready to fill in if the inevitable happens.
You don’t get the same quality because it’s not in the market and if you had to, you’d be paying over €100m and then you bench €100m player because your best player will still play either way.
What they need to be clamoring for is someone who is one or two steps above the current option which is Reiss Nelson. That automatically raises their level.
Not to be asking for someone on Saka’s level.
To me I won't want to use the word
Compete because it will be like you as a coach, ok let's use Arteta, if that happens it will look like the player is no longer valid to the club or they are trying to push him out and that alone kills the playing style of the player so I think a
Backup player or winger is the best to use not a
Competitor.
Saka has been the engine room of the side with some other guys but what the fans are scared of is when he drops form and nobody to take that responsibility to do what he always does on the field of play and you made mentioned of Reiss Nelson, I think lack of playing time is responsible for him performing poorly.
He hasn't played more games to boost out his best not playing 20mins and Arteta brings him out, I'd say Arteta should always give him some of those crucial games to showcase his (Reiss Nelson) abilities, that would build that strong spirit in him to some how be of the same level with Saka, so it won't be only Saka that opposition defenders would be worried about but the player Reiss Nelson.
