I don't disagree with the line of thought RDD is on, but either the chain is vaporized and all the coins are gone, or the chain is forked and it lives on in infamy. It isn't going to happen both ways. I really believe that even if the testnet was vaporized that someone would keep a node running and bam, it is just a fork, as you said.

My biggest issue with proto was the fucking stupid "oh i have something you guys are going to love" billing of it. Like it was something to get excited about. Yeah, like 4 people here are really into coding and shit like that and can actually utilize the test net. For the masses that announcement was nothing. It was just a gui, most likely adapted from the current wallet onto the test net. It never should have had any type of fanfare. It should have been a footnote in the readme file, " testnet wallet is included for those who can use it" , done and over with.

You mean i can do anything i can do on the Uno network, but on the testnet, without risking my Uno, possibly losing some, and driving the value up for the remaining Uno? Why would anyone want anyone to do such a thing  

In the end it doesn't matter. It would be like worrying about how every crap coin that came out after Uno is a threat to Uno. The more we worry about things of little consequence the more it seems like we have less to offer.

If Uno could stand on it's own merit it wouldn't be concerned about proto detracting from it. That has to be the message some people read from all this shit.

Resetting UNO testnet3 from the gensis block wouldn't even be a fork... it would just be a new coin, testnet4 (ProtaniumII or UnobtaniumJR).
If it was so easy to evaporate an entire network, someone would have come along by now and done it to Bitcoin.

No, resetting the testnet literally just starts the blockchain over from the beginning. It just wipes it. It's no new coin, it's just restarting the testnet. It's plain and simple. Only way you are keeping any coins is forking it and running off on another chain *before* it gets wiped.

They have done it with Bitcoin, several times. Hence, testnet3.
If you want to know how, just look into using the Bitcoin testnet and see how the testnet is used. Read around, Bitcoin's testnet is not allowed to be monetized for all these reasons and so it can be wiped, stress tested, abused, hacked on at any time.

I was only mentioning this to clarify to you because it was apparent that you initially thought you could keep many chains and keep the coins. It does not work that way. It's just reset and it's gone, or fork the coin before hand and turn it into another coin.

A fork is a new coin.  (The one time I find myself agreeing with lukejr....ughh)

If you wanted to keep the coins and preserve the blockchain, you'd need to fork the testnet again and then it's no longer UNOs testnet, it becomes Prototanium as an entire new coin. In effect, that does actually just create another cloned premined coin as well. So, not a good idea at all.

good idea or not, it is likely the outcome of this disagreement.  when? not soon ... again Blazr/Hag created both ... if he wishes to resurface from the deep and inform us ... that is welcome ... but forking PR off the testnet ends the debate ... and PR walks off as a "cloned premined coin" and "it lives on in infamy".

for RDD and TIPS ... politely suggest to their communities to trade in UNO ... because they can fine tune the spot rates ... ya they can do it with ltc or doge ... but UNO has got null inflation and has the potential to make them quick 100% gains ... which ltc/doge don't have.

Maybe this will help:

Forking the testnet is a simple pull-request away, and someone will do it eventually when it's necessary to play with the testnet again (since it is worthless for testing in it's current state, too long and bloated and difficulty too high). If someone wants to keep mining the old testnet at that point, no one can stop them from setting up full nodes to keep it going. We'll just bump the version number and not offer connections to the old testnet.

Of coarse, someone could do that even without a pull request to run a private testnet and that would be fine too.

If you're offering any monetary reward for testnet coins you're simply rewarding the abuse of the testnet. But anyone who needs the testnet probably doesn't care because we can fork it at any time and it's your money to blow.

eThought is one of the best. Sorry to see it go, though I didn't personally have a need for it. There are so many other wallet options available now that were not well developed when coinwallet started. Its amazing he was able to keep the hackers out.
