I don't see how Ajax absence in the UCL could benefit PSV now or anytime in the future because Ajax still remains the biggest club in Dutch football and based on this reputation Ajax can still do more impact in the UCL than Twente who haven't been regular in the UCL at least not as much as Ajax who have won the competition in the past, its not as if both teams could clash in the competition but even if it happens then  PSV still has the advantage as the better side.

He means that the reward of getting to UEFA Champions League is better than Europa or Conference Leagues. More money means more flexibility to get good quality players and challenge PSC Eindhoven.
I find that as an ego excess and every eredivise team should focus on increasing the level of the league rather than the side and indirect conflict.

The 2025/26 season is now officially concluded.
After the last round (matchday 34) we still had some action going on. In the Conference League spot play-offs, Ajax came on top. First, they defeated Groningen and they defeated Utrecht in a penalty shootout, after the game ended with a 1-1 draw. This means Ajax secured their place in the second qualifying round of the Conference League.

In the relegation play-offs, Volendam lost to Willem II, despite winning the first leg away game 1-2.

To summarise, the clubs that got relegated are:
Volendam
NAC
Heracles

The 3 teams that got promoted are:
Den Haag
Cambuur
Willem II

Ajax Amsterdam is a legendary club, not only on Netherlands but also in Europe and even in many parts of the world. Many legends played for that club and started their career there.
The problem of Ajax Amsterdam nowadays is not different from many clubs in top leagues which saw their performance dropping and their results too. I mean Juventus used to dominate Serie A, Marseille, Manchester United and Chelsea. All these clubs lost their positions and let the other clubs jumping in front of them.
We will see this summer transfer window and what Ajax is planning and whether they are willing to keep gaining money or spend more than usual for once.

We had some big news yesterday from Feyenoord.
Apparently, they decided to sack Robin van Persie from the position of manager and will be looking for a new coach.
It could be a bit of a surprise, as 2nd place in the Eredivisie (and therefore qualifying to the Champions League) could seem like a safe result that would be enough to satisfy the club owners and the fans.
The stated reason was:

(...) We conducted a thorough internal analysis. In this, we took into account, among other things, the development of the style of play and the declining trend in terms of points total, both in Europe and in the Eredivisie.

(...) The conclusion was that it is better to start the next season with a new head coach.

I have to say I understand the reasoning and agree with the decision, provided the club is confident they can find a better replacement. Despite an overall satisfying result, Feyenoord indeed made an impression of being on a downward spiral, so it makes sense to act now instead of waiting for things to get much worse.

It's quite a surprise for most people I guess... You finish as 3rd at first and then you improve it to 2nd. But still the board isn't convinced with you for some other reasons. 

But if there is really not much development in the playing style then I wouldn't be against it. They must be targeting the top in the end.

And the current game is really not enough to compete PSV for that considering the 19-point gap this season!

Willem 2 again on Eredivisie, its always fun for me to see the teams who got promoted in this league since i feel like they are always the same with Volendam and Willem being like a elevator who gones up and down from season to season, other teams like them are Den Haag, Cambur, Graapschap, Waalwijk.

They never had trust for him, they wanted to fire him before, but couldn't because he was getting some results, and now they did. I am sure that "other reasons" were at play here, because results where not that bad at all, as good as they could have expected. Robin Van Persie was a decent manager, and I am sure that he is going to find another decent job for himself.

I am not sure if it will be in Netherlands again or if it will be in some other league, but I am sure he will do fine. Ajax actually need someone to do very well, not sure if they are happy with their decision or not, but I wonder if they would reconsider and maybe go with RVP? Because being fifth place is terrible for them and they should have done better.

I don't know what the true reason was. It could be that van Persie and the club owners didn't get along very well, but assuming the official reason is true, I'm glad that Feyenoord owners refuse to settle for being 2nd or 3rd and have higher expectations. PSV becoming a hegemon like Bayern in Germany or PSG in France will be horrible for the Dutch league. The more competition at the top, the better.

Also, let's not forget Feyenoord's poor performance in the Europa League. They failed to advance from the league stage with two wins and six losses. It's hard to be optimistic when it comes to Feyenoord's performance in the Champions League next season.

Robin van Persie was a really special player for me in the past. He played for Fenerbahçe for 2 seasons as well which is the team I support at the same time.

Later he has become a manager and I can't say his time at Feyenoord was too bad. We are talking about 3rd and 2nd places. But not seeing improvement for the Eredivisie championship has brought his end.

If he was given another year maybe things would be much better. But we never know of course. Not every story is like Klopp at Liverpool for example.

And who could have though that Super Cup will end with 4:0 win of AZ. Very early red card of PSV have changed everything. And I'm not saying that it wasn't right, but it ruined the game. After red card there were zero questions about winner, PSV couldn't do anything with 10 men on the pitch. From perspective of neutral spectator it wasn't good thing.
Next weekend we already have start of Eredivisie 26/27 season.

A really poor start by PSV. How did Veerman manage to get a red card literally in the first minutes of the first official match of the season? It's such a simple error.

Besides I saw their starting eleven a little bit different than before. Did they sell some players from there or what? After PSV have dominated the Eredivisie for 3 years I'm just wondering if we will see a different champion finally.


By the way most consecutive title record belongs to PSV and Ajax both with 4. PSV did it even twice! Now they will fight for the 3rd time.

I think we should move on to a new thread. The OP hasn't even been active for 2 years and this thread is self-moderated. One day he might come back and delete the entire thread. Everything everyone has written will be for nothing. Someone who closely follows the Dutch league, maybe a local there, should start a new thread.

The Super Cup has found its winner. PSV Eindhoven was the favorite but AZ Alkmaar won by scoring 4 goals. PSV was down to 10 men as early as the 9th minute. That score probably wouldn't have happened in an 11 v 11 game. Peter Bosz apparently couldn't prepare the team for a 10 v 11 situation.

This match can't be used as a benchmark for the league though. The only fact is that AZ Alkmaar won another trophy. I think this was their second Super Cup. Congratulations to them. It's nice to see teams other than PSV and Ajax winning something in the Netherlands as well.

I simply cannot fathom how an experienced player like Veerman could make such a challenge on an opponent as early as the fourth minute.
If it had happened late in the game, I might have attributed it to adrenaline and fatigue, but the match had barely begun.
It was a completely absurd and foolish move, and it left PSV down to ten men.
Had PSV not been reduced to ten men, they would have won the cup.
Despite this, PSV put up a good fight. AZ Alkmaar seized the opportunity presented by PSV's numerical disadvantage, scoring four goals to win the match 4-0 and claim the trophy.
It was an entertaining and exciting match, but Veerman's sending-off was the defining moment.
Such setbacks happen sometimes, but in this instance, it cost PSV the cup.

Agree with you, mate. I've been following this topic for years, so long that I've forgotten when the @OP last posted even a single update. The first match starts on August 8th, technically we have five days to get everything ready for the new topic. If no one else is willing to create the new topic on the 6th or 7th at the latest, I think I’ll be the one to start the new Eredivisie topic.

AZ Alkmaar managed to win the cup against PSV. Joey Veerman’s red card in the 9th minute was a turning point that completely changed PSV’s game plan, and PSV played with 10 men for approximately 81 minutes. They couldn’t hold on for long while down to 10 men and lost 4-0 to AZ Alkmaar, failing to win the cup. AZ Alkmaar capitalized well on their opponent being down to 10 men, and it’s fair to say they took control of the game once PSV was reduced to 10 men. There isn’t much else to say about the match—the red card was the reason PSV lost.

today Feyenoord beat Sparta 1-0 and nearly repeated PSV's mistake. Sparta scored a goal in stoppage time but it was disallowed due to a foul. in another match Ajax beat Zwolle 2-0 but the score remained 0-0 for a long time and the first goal was scored only after Zwolle player was sent off. overall, the start of the championship for three top teams was not very impressive.

I watched both games and what I can say - Feyenoord dominance was huge, they just didn't managed to convert it into goals. xG isn't always best indicator of game, but this time Feyenoord had it 3.53 and as you say, still were so close from dropping points.
Zwolle looked like a team capable to take points from Ajax, but yeah, that red card changed everything.
