If the overall sentiment allows to derive the conclusion that we are facing a long-term upswing, investing is probably the better option. You could always sell during the upswing and secure some gains in order to bolster your overall position and investment exposure.

Only if you've got enough experience to do both things. Being an investor doesn't mean you're also good as a trader. But I think the advantage is in the traders.
They know how both things work as they're very much aware of the risk. While investors, they're also risk-takers but it's okay if they're not good at trading.
As long as both works for you, no need to think of any confusion and incompatibility.
