Well, it depends on whether the VIP is just a gimmick or actual "Very Important Person." Some casinos have "cheap VIP" that only unlock (cumulative) rake back without additional bonus. Psychologically, yes, it makes us feel more appreciated after all the wager we have done. But, financially, it doesn't affect much. On the other side, there are "expensive VIP" programs that give you meaningful benefits.

BK8 VIP system is quite unusual for us, yes, but it only requires players to deposit a certain amount to get the upgrade (and 1x wager every 3 months for maintenance), instead having to do a crazy amount of wagering, and use the cumulative rake back as the "bonus." It has pros and cons and is very subjective. Heavy gamblers may prefer such a system, but not casual gamblers. For me, deposit IDR 30 million in a month will make my wife go crazy, so for sure I'm not worthy of a VIP tag. At first, I wanted to complain as well about their VIP system, but I realized that I'm probably not their VIP target market.

That's why I say VIP program is not something we should hunt, as gambler we should play responsibly. And I think that the vast majority of players prefer games with completely equal opponents, at least without taking into account their psychological state and experience, which of course can not always be understood the first time.
