Fighters who think they can be at the top would care much for the opportunity than the money involved, IMO, $10 million is good enough but his focus should be on winning the fight, if he beats Canelo, then maybe if there's a rematch, he can dictate the tempo, so most probably his purse will increase.

I like this kind of fighter that fight the best and focus on the future rather than the current opportunity to make more money.

Based on the deal of fight Canelo gets the best deal than Caleb Plant, Plant agree to all the deals he just wants the fight to push through because this is going to be a life and career changing fight he wants this fight to happen it's an opportunity of a lifetime, it's like winning a lottery if he wins he is an instant multi-title champion if he wins.

That's the reward that he could get if he wins this fight, and since he believes he can upset the champion, I think even at a lower amount he would still go with this fight. The betting odds currently do look like it's not giving Plant a decent chance to win, but then, since upset is possible, then we should expect it could possibly happen here also.

Canelo's last loss was way back in 2014, that was a long time ago.

We cannot use Mayweather strategy to beat the experienced Canelo, so many were added to Canelo's arsenal if Mayweather is still at the height of his career, Canelo can give him a good fight a much better fight than the one they had, Canelo is strong and he has a good movement in the ring compared seven years ago, but let's see what Plant will do and how will he counter Canelo's counter punching.

I didn't say that, the point of my post is that Canelo has only lose once in his career and that is against Mayweather. I can see that he has improve a lot already after that lose and if ever Mayweather will fight Canelo now, I think Canelo would hurt Mayweather. I think that loss was an eye opener for him, he trained harder, improve himself, that's why most of his fights now are won in an easy way.

Well said, since Canelo is one of those fighters who can give Mayweather pain in the ass but right now that won't really matter since he is not gonna fight him and right now Mayweather is only good for an exhibition fights. Canelo will be a difficult fight for Caleb Plant since the guy already managed to gather as much experience from his past fight and you can see that he is using them so well in the ring. Both speed and power of Canelo will be a torn for Plant to get through and I even doubt he can survive up to the late rounds.

Still good money for Caleb and this good be his biggest paycheck, $10 million + ppv, most likely in the tune of $11 million++ regardless. Kovalev and Jacobs has made their names though that's why a slight higher purse.

Yeah, if he somehow upset Canelo, then maybe they will set up a rematch and he can make double his money, risk worth taking at this point of his career.

What makes you think that he will settle for just $10 million for the rematch, in case he wins this one? Caleb is yet to make his name like Canelo, and that is why he agreed to such a lop-sided deal ($10 million for him and $40 million for Canelo as the guaranteed purse). If he upsets Canelo, then the next time he is not going to settle for an amount which is lower than that given to Canelo. It can be 30-20 (in Caleb's favor) or at least 25-25. This is the fight of his life. If he loses this one, then in all probability he will not get a similar opportunity for the remainder of his career.

I disagree though, during his fight with Mayweather, he is no name in the US soil, he is just another budding superstar from Mexico. And he had to thank Oscar for that, for bringing him into the US boxing fans. But that's business though, he already severed his relationship with Oscar already.

And moving forward 7 years from his last defeat, he has grown so much that he is at the peak right now and no one can touches him in any of his fights.

His biggest fight was against Triple G which he won via split decision, I wish we can see another fight like that where the match is even and just a few points are the deciding factor in the end to declare the winner. During that fight, Triple G was the favorite and Canelo was the underdog, I guess we will not see the same odds in his coming fights.

https://www.si.com/boxing/2017/09/15/canelo-alvarez-gennady-golovkin-odds-favorite-betting-line

However, according to https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshkatzowitz/2020/03/17/canelo-alvarez-vs-gennadiy-golovkin-3-odds-show-canelo-as-a-large-betting-favorite/.. if there's a trilogy, Canelo would be the heavy favorites.

No surprise there. Gennady Golovkin is nearing 40 and his body and reflexes are not the same as it was in 2017. And I can remember the first fight, when GGG showed a lot of fatigue towards the end (but still he outplayed Canelo in at least 8 of the 10 initial rounds). The same happened in 2018 as well. Now there is not much of a chance for rematch, as Golovkin has fallen out of favor with Golden Boy Promotions. He is currently under a deal with DAZN for a total of 6 fights and won't be able to take part in a rematch with Canelo until the deal expires.

So this means that Trilogy will not happen anymore, it's just pity that we are supposed to see a good fight but since there's no chance, then we will just be seeing fights of Canelo that he will dominate easily. Thing is, Canelo keeps fighting, and although his opponent has some quality in papers, but in a real fight you don't see the real competitiveness.

Most probably, unless he will break the contract he is currently in which is unlikely as he would have to pay for the damages which are not helpful for his ending career. We just have to accept that they would not anymore fight, maybe in the future it will happen but via exhibition fight only.

Read again, I say he can make it "double", so a minimum of $20 million will be on the table for him for the rematch. However, I still think that Canelo will be on the A-side even after he lost, so he will still get a lion share of the purse.

And as far as I know, Canelo said that he is open for a trilogy with GGG, but Golovkin needs to go up to 168 lbs.

So there is still a chance that we can see the trilogy, but GGG will be in his 40's already.

Quote
Canelo Alvarez hasn't closed the door on facing his biggest rival one more time. On Thursday, Alvarez indicated he wasn't opposed to facing Gennadiy Golovkin for a third fight after Alvarez finishes the current task of unifying the super middleweight division.

"The truth is, I'm open for anything," Alvarez said through an interpreter two days before he faces Billy Joe Saunders at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The stipulation, however, is that Golovkin move up to the 168-pound division. Both of their previous fights have been at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds.

When Golden Boy was planning for the trilogy fight in 2019, Canelo opposed it. Why a sudden change of heart now? GGG is no longer in the same shape as he was 2-3 years ago. And since the second match against Canelo in 2018, he has participated in only three fights (Steve Rolls, Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Kamil Szeremeta). If there was a trilogy match, it had to happen in 2019 or 2020. Now it is too late. For GGG, the next fight is scheduled for December this year, and that is going to be against Ryota Murata (WBA middleweight champion).

If Plant won, then it will be his and his promoters' decisions to ask for more, upsetting Canelo is really tough, but we never know until we see them inside the ring fighting.

There are materials that both camps will use to find which aspect they can get the benefits of and try to work it out when meet their opponents inside.

Winning against Canelo will bring him on much higher place and the money that will flow for him is far from his imagination.
let see if he has that luck aside from his skills that very important during the fight.

Plant is someone who has nothing to lose and in this fight, he is the underdog (and that too by a distance). Defeating Canelo is not that impossible. If an ageing GGG could come close to doing that in 2017, then there is no reason why a young Plant couldn't do it. For me, this fight has eerie resemblance to the recent match between Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugás. The weight class is different, but there also no one really expected Ugas to score an upset victory. If by any chance Canelo losses to Plant, then he will witness a steep fall in his market value.

I think if he has pride he would also lose something in this fight.

Caleb Plant is undefeated with 21 wins (https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/684493), though he knows that he is the underdog of this fight, no boxer that are willing to fight the favorites that are thinking he could not win, I'm sure he is confident he could hurt and beat Canelo Alvarez.

Maybe if he doesn't have any options left, or at least big money fight in the future, then maybe he will give GGG his trilogy for a huge pay. I agree, if he fights GGG in the next couple of years, then GGG might not be in his prime so there's no more reasons for Canelo to fight him as it might be a mismatch and the fight should happen right after the second fight because it is controversial decision. It will be good in paper, but in the actual fight, it might be like a Pacquiao performance.

Another fight that wont give Canelo anything except money and a chance to get injured by an opponent from higher weight division.
If Canelo is up to money that much, he should challenge one of Paul brothers. That will be an easy fight and easy money.

How many more year Canelo is planning to be in business? I think it is time for him to retire (not because of age, but because there are no more strong opponents left) or move to other division.

I don't think he should retire this early. He is a strong and a reputable boxer. He can still fight against more opponents that are on the same level of him in terms of fighting in a match. If you'll watch closely during his matches, he always throws powerful punches and is very strategic. He knows when to attack and how to aim directly at the target. This makes him a very good opponent because surely, everytime you will watch his game, you will be entertained by his charisma inside the boxing ring.

He can still make more money if he will continue his boxing career. Besides, I think he is enjoying his profession and not just after money alone.

He can still make more money, so why bother to retire as early as now, somehow new challenger will come up and fans will demand for him to continue showing his greatness.

The more entertaining fight the more fans that will continue to support him, He dominated this level and when another challenger calls for him he needed to defend his title and for sure that where he will get more money, the promoters will assure him to bank out huge amount as assurance whatever happened after the fight.

In today's boxing that old-timers getting out of retirement, it was encouraging some veteran boxers to stay in the profession even they are now in the retirement age and even showing some signs of slowing down.

They got inspired by Floyd Mayweather Jr. that still generating good income even at retirement because of exhibition match where people are paying not because of the fight or match but on the boxer's name and reputation.
