New User Guide: How I go post photos for the forum?
Powered by TalkImg

Firstly, I go like welcome una to Bitcointalk forum. For dis place una go see different beta community wey go help una learn very plenty things for the world of Bitcoin. If they come to introduce a new service wey concerns Bitcoin, we go throughly appreciate am; all of us like new, reliable services, cos na dis be the only way wey Bitcoin go  continue to grow.

But whether bi a Bitcoin enthusiast or a service promoter, the thing wey you suppose learn before you go start to dey enjoy this forum na: how you go fit post a photo for the forum.
I create dis guide, and I dey hope say e go dey useful for una, the new user.

How do photos dey work on the forum?  .:
BitcoinTalk no get any system wey u go fit use upload photos, and e no dey directly store photos. So therefore, for u to fit store or keep photos for the forum, na an external image hosting service you go use. Make i add another thing for una, when it comes to photos, the forum get some certain rules (does and don't), wey dey very necessary for you to follow:
  • e dey only accept photos through the ways: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF
  • and make the space no pass 2.5MB

Dem suppose mention say na image proxy the forum dey use, to make sure say all the photos wey the forum users go watch go pass through dis proxy. Bcos e dey make sure say e protect the identities of people wey they use dis external hosting services. Dis fact na him cause some image hosting services to block dis proxy na bcos of too much requests. So therefore, e dey very very important to pick an image hosting service wey no dey create dis kind barrier, such as TalkImg.

When I go fit post a photo?  .:
And dem get another necessary rule for the forum: your rank must don reach Junior member before you go fit post photos.

What I dey try talk bi say, even if you post a link to a photo in the forum, e no go dey visible to other people until e reach dat level. I no go go deep for dis guide on how to level up, but you fit consult the following topics so dat you go fit get more information:
FAQ: Everything you suppose know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit
Merit & new rank requirements

You fit reach Junior level within 6-7 weeks, but e depends on your activity/ the people wey dey participate for the forum. But, if you no wan take so much time (for example, if your goal na to promote a service), you fit obtain a Copper subscription. And you go pay fee once, after dat dem go lift dis restrictions. Please make una know say e no dey compulsory! You only need to do is if you wan speed up the possibility of adding photos. But most people dey prefer to wait until dem go fit add the photos.

 How I go fit add a photo to a topic/post?  .:
As I talk earlier, BitcoinTalk no get a button where you go fit upload photos, neither is it enough to simply drag and drop the photo in the topic/post creation area. The posts wey dey for the forum na  based on written text and BBCode code (you fit learn more about that here).

E mean say you go write in the text of your post a code and the link to the image wey the image hosting service provide. You suppose write the [img] tag and inside dat tag make you put the image link. Look the example wey dey here:

How dem dey write am: [img]https://www.talkimg.com/images/2026/05/09/UJfwVG.png[/img]
As seen:

How does image hosting systems dey work?  .:
Basically, the thing wey you need na link a photo. However, for the one wey you go use for forum, dem suggest dat make una use an image hosting service rather than copying links directly from another websites. If you say you go dey copy links from another websites you fit go against some the site's rules, and the website fit block the image easily when dem show on the forum.

So therefore, dem get services wey dey allow person to upload photos and receive a link, wey dem go fit use here on the forum. Most of dis  types of services dey similar in terms of work, and all of dem dey very easy to use. Make you follow dis steps if you go use TalkImg (na free e bi):

1. Go to www.talkimg.com and press "Start Upload" or make you just drag the photo onto the page.

2. After you don select the image, a confirmation page go appear; simply press "Upload" (remember say, e dey very very necessary make the image matches or follow rules wey dey mentioned above).

3. The upload go don complete, and when finished, a link/code go appear wey you go copy.

4. Paste the link/code for the post wey you dey write:

 Conclusion  .:
For una wey never know the forum well well, I know say all of these go dey  very confusing for u. But I believe  say e dey very easy and more practical than it appears at first sight. As you continue to dey familiar and understand the forum and participate, you go see say everything becomes almost easier.

I hope dis guide has help una to understand how forum photos dey work. Here are two more topics wey fit be useful when you dey post photos for  the forum:
Guideline on posting images (with size adjustments), hyperlinks
Guide: Best practices for using images on the forum/web

OP Note: Throughout this guide, I go suggest the TalkImg service for uploading photos, but the user is can free to choose the image hosting service wey dem prefer. The TalkImg service was created with the forum in mind; if you wan know more about it, make you visit the official thread.

Original Topic: FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit
Author: hilariousandco

D way dem dey calculate activity is too hard to understand, but I go put am in simple way for una U go fit get only 14 activity points every two week period. Na dis bi d basic things u suppose know but I go explain all d small details and hard parts including how d system dey operate down here so dat people no go dey confuse again:

★ U go only get 14 activity points in every 2 weeks period.
★ Dem dey fix d 2 weeks periods, but e no dey immediately u sign up.
★ U go fit find d list wey contain all d dates for d activity periods on dis link wey dey here  spreadsheet (Make we give d three gboosa to jambola2 for arranging and putting am together ).
★ U fit get more than 14 activity within two weeks if u sign up between periods.
★ Wettin u need to do bi say, u go make at least one post for each activity period so dat u go fit collect d activity another time. For example, u fit make one post for three different periods, and den u go get 3 posts and 3 activity, but a potential activity of 42. Once u do d 42 posts then u go get 42 activity but e no go dey more than dat. If u do one post for 35 different periods, then u go get 35 posts and 35 activity but a potential activity of 480. Dis means say u go be a Junior Member but if u do d complete 480 posts u go upgrade to Hero Member immediately.
★ If your post count surpass your activity by 14 or more than 14 then u go only need to do one post for d new period so dat u go fit get d full 14 activity. For example, your post count na 200 but your activity na only 28. To get another 14 activity u go only make one post for d new period and then u go get a total of 42 activity.

Ranks and activity:

Brand New: 0 posts
Newbie: 1-29 activity
Jr. Member: 30-59 activity
Member:   60-119 activity
Full Member: 120-239 activity
Sr. Member: 240-479 activity
Hero Member: 480 activity
Legendary: Somewhere between 775 and 1030 activity

Merit:

In addition to Activity u go also need Merit to achieve each rank.
D merit wey u go need, dey break am down blow here:

Newbie:   0
Jr Member: 1
Member: 10
Full Member: 100
Sr. Member: 250
Hero Member: 500
Legendary: 1000

dis is a table for the activity periods and time wey e go take u to get each rank:

29 X 14 = 406
30 X 14 = 420
31 X 14 = 434
32 X 14 = 448
33 X 14 = 462
34 X 14 = 476
35 X 14 = 490  ----  Hero Member (1.3 years)
36 X 14 = 504

-------------------

Activity FAQ:

Why my activity con stuck for one place/and e no dey move?

Because na only only 14 activity u fit get every two week period. U go just wait small until d next period begin so dat u go  get another 14.

Why has my rank/activity never updated?

E go fit take up to an hour before e go update. Make u just dey patient.

My activity or my rank fit reduce?

Yes. E go only fit reduce wen u delete all d posts wey u do from a particular period or d threads wey u posted for dustbin. E dey possible for u to drop rank until u get enough activity again.

I fit get more than 14 activity within two week period?

No. But as e dey bi, e dey possible for u to get more than 14 activity in 2 weeks if you sign up in between periods, but no go fit get more than 14 activity in 2 weeks period. For example, if d period starts on a Wednesday and u sign up on Tuesday u go fit get 14 points on Tuesday and another 14 on Wednesday if d period don already start. Then u go get 28 activity points but u no get any activity points again until in two weeks' time wen d new period start.

Wettin go happens if I miss a period?

Nothing. But u no go get dat activity and u don miss dat activity forever. Just make sure say u post for d next period so dat u go fit get another 14.

Why I no go fit  change my avatar?

Until u don reach Full Member upward before u go fit have an avatar.

Wen I go become Legendary?

U go become Legendary randomly somewhere between 775 and 1030 activity.

Does e mean say time wey I dey spent online count towards activity?

No. E no dey count towards anything, in fact na meaningless statistic.

Do only certain boards or posts suppose bi a minimum character length before e go count for activity?

No. All boards and posts of all length dey currently count towards both.

If I create an account and leave am for some time I go fit become a higher rank when I come back?

No. U go still dey for newbie rank. Activity dey measures how active you dey dey on the forum and na to prevent against lazy account farming. If u no dey do at least one post for each period den u no go  get dat activity.

Why I no go fit post photos?

Because u suppose bi a Junior Member before u go fit do that. For u to become a Junior Member u have to dey post for three activity periods and get at least 28 activity. But as e dey bi, you fit cross dis rules by buying a Copper Membership for a small fee here.

-------------------

Merit FAQ:

Wettin be Merit?

Merit na new system wey dem create to they reward people wey make quality contributions to the forum. Now if u wan rise through ranks u go also need to get Merit apart from the Activity.

How I go receive merit?

Na from d people of d community u go dey receive merit award if dem find your post helpful or informative.

How I go dey send Merit?

Dem get a +Merit button at d top right of every post. If u wan dash someone merit make u just click on d botton and follow the instructions.

Wetting bi d difference between Merit and sMerit?

Na two types of merit we get. U no go fit send your merits, na only your sMerit u go dey send. For every Merit wey u receive u go get 0.5 spendable merit to reward d posts wey u think say deserve merit.

I fit ask for merit?

There is no need to do dat, because we dey see dis kind behaviour as 'merit begging' which d community members no dey like at all and e fit cost u to receive negative feedback. Just continue to dey make quality, constructive posts and u go surely get rewarded over time.

I fit sell merit?

Selling merit is not allowed.

I fit give merit to my alt accounts?

No, dem no dey permit dat and e fit cost u to receive negative feedback if dem find out.

Can I be demerited or lose merit?

No, not currently. Even if dey remove your post d merit go still dey.

Wettin bi a merit source?

Dem get certain number of special Merit sources who dey receive additional amounts of merit to give away. D list no dey popular, but d staff know am.

How I go fit become a merit source?

As per theymos' instructions:

If u wan bi a merit source:

 1. Be a member wey get more experience for the forum.
 2. We go collect TEN posts wey u write in d last couple of months wey never get nearly enough merit for how good dem bi, and post quotes for dem all in a new Meta thread.
 3. We go take a look at your history and maybe make you a source.

Dey get limit for how many merits I go dey fit send?

Yes. U go fit give a max of 50 merit to a user every 30 days.

Merit stats: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats

Note: Abeg make una no say unnecessary 'thanks for d info' as well as any questions wey we don already answered or explained, because we go remove am, na only posts una go type for here.

Abeg report any threads wey ask questions wey dey don already answered here because dey no dey necessary and we go remove am. Thanks.

Original Topic: [Education] Bitcoin Privacy and Anonymity

Author: Husna QA

This thread na translated version for topic way I created for local board Bahasa Indonesia: [Edukasi] Privasi dan Anonimitas Bitcoin

Privacy and Anonymity
Privacy na big problem for Bitcoin system. Even though Bitcoin dey pretend say e dey private (pseudonymous), plenty techniques don develop to open relationship between Bitcoin addresses, transaction patterns, and the real identity of the person wey own the Bitcoin address.

2. KYC and AML principles

1. Privacy Issues
back to table of contents
Bitcoin bin design with a privacy model where transactions wey user make and addresses wey user own no get direct relationship with the real identity of the owner. The Bitcoin privacy model and how e compare with the traditional privacy model fit describe as follows:

Bitcoin Privacy Model 1

Anyone fit join the Bitcoin system without having to register first because no centralized control organization dey inside the Bitcoin system wey control users or transactions wey dey occur inside the system.
Even though everybody fit see these transactions, the identity associated with the purchase still remain hidden.

However, this privacy model no mean say the user's identity remain hidden. Many rules dey set and also the characteristics of Bitcoin wey dem fit use to analyze the relationship between Bitcoin transactions and the user's real identity. They be wetin then cause the Bitcoin community to tend to refer to Bitcoin as pseudo-anonym.

2. KYC and AML principles
back to table of contents
Governments for the world don start to become aware of money laundering schemes wey dem fit implement using digital currencies such as Liberty Reserve, which then force financial institutions to apply the principles of Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML). By using the KYC principle, no one fit create bank account without identity card. The same law dey imposed on financial institutions related to the Bitcoin system, such as the Bitcoin trading company wey allow users to sell or buy Bitcoin and convert local currencies into Bitcoin or vice versa.3

For Indonesia, one of the exchangers for exchanging Bitcoin / Cryptocurrency with Rupiah, namely Indodax, adopted the same mechanism by requiring its users to submit copies of their identities to be validated manually by the company.
E mean say Bitcoin trading services get connection record between the Bitcoin address and the user's real identity.

Because anyone fit see every transaction for the Bitcoin system, Bitcoin wey dem purchase from the Bitcoin Exchanger fit be tracked easily. Therefore, if the transaction dey suspected to be related to illegal activities, the identity of the user involved fit be identified if the user transacts directly from the exchanger.

3. Taint
back to table of contents
Taint na a transaction trace wey fit use to measure connectivity between a Bitcoin address and another Bitcoin address wey connected to transactions between these addresses.5

This na the best I fit explain the taint analysis wey you see on blockchain.info but I no sure say e very clear: (fictional example for address 1MtPYAjqohLH5gMq3PH5xKVFWWDxrRQEbh)

All addresses wey don receive a payment be tainted and e no way effects the value of the coins.

Addresses wey transact with each other tend to get something related, for example, owned by the same user, or get a seller-buyer relationship for the transaction scheme of buying and selling goods or services.

There used to be a Taint Analysis tool on Blockchain.info (https://www.blockchain.com/) but at this time, the feature be removed6. (CMIIW)

The highlighted red rectangle show the Taint Analysis function available among the Tools:

The same page today be pretty different, in that the Taint Analysis function be clearly missing form the “Tools” section:

Another Taint Analysis Tools references:7
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1746836.0

4. Greenlist
back to table of contents
Greenlist8 na a scheme wey record the real identity information of the owner of a Bitcoin address. This concept first proposed by the CoinValidation company, which hold the data. With the Greenlist scheme, the company go verify ownership of Bitcoin addresses. As such, this information fit be used by law enforcement to track those who buy prohibited items using Bitcoin9.
This Greenlist idea rejected by the bitcoin community, e.g., on the bitcointalk.org forum and the Reddit forum11.

-snip-
I be also incensed frankly that someone go step into the market with such a muddle-headed thinking, and attempt to sabotage or destroy the core bitcoin feature that give its value, where the value don be created by Satoshi and a cast of millions of man-hours of contributions of the community and technical wizards developing it mostly on volunteer time. I no be someone prone to swearing, but this be astonishingly stupid and dangerous. Please stop now. In the article e be claimed they sought advice from the Winklevoss twins, if the twins value their estimated $30million bitcoin holding they should advise them to stop: if fungibility be destroyed bitcoins value as a transaction currency be impacted.
-snip-
Greenlist go eliminate the concept of functionality, which be a concept where any bitcoin with the same amount should get equal value regardless of where the bitcoin originated.
This greenlist scheme go create different bitcoin valuations depending on whether the bitcoin come from an integrated address.
Greenlist policies fit be a starting point for government agents who get database access to track the identity of anyone who transacts with a specific bitcoin address8.

5. Geolocation
back to table of contents
Geolocation analysis fit understand as a method for mapping Bitcoin users based on their location on the surface of the earth. The report fit do by mapping the locations of vendors who accept bitcoin as a means of payment.
Every time a user make a payment for the form of bitcoin, e fit estimate say the user dey for the same location as the vendor, of course assuming that the vendor sell goods offline for the physical stores they get. Thus, analysts fit track transaction details, including if necessary, checking CCTV cameras when searching for the user's presence.

Heatmap of retailers which accept cryptocurrency as payment.12

By combining geolocation techniques and taint analysis techniques, every bitcoin user wey shops at a vendor's shop go fit track. Therefore, without further security, they go fit know the identity of that Bitcoin users.

6. CoinJoin
back to table of contents
Gregory Maxwell introduce one alternative solution to take increase the level of privacy for Bitcoin users, wey dem call CoinJoin13. E be a development of the ideas wey dem bin present before about Taint14. CoinJoin na mechanism wey dey combine several similar transactions into one transaction wey consist of many inputs and outputs. The CoinJoin concept then dem implement am into one application wey dem call CoinJoin.15.

-snip-
CoinJoin Transactions13

The picture above explain how CoinJoin work and how e take dey compare to Bitcoin transactions.

For transaction 1, one 1FF address wey get 50 BTC wan send 0.5 BTC go another address, 1A1, with a return address of 1FF. At the end of the transaction, the 1FF address go get 49.5 BTC.

For transaction 2, plenty input and output addresses dey. Even though this scheme look like ordinary Bitcoin transaction, e fit use to protect the identity of the user wey involve for the transaction. For example, the owner of address 1A1 wan send 0.8 BTC go 1E5 and e no want make any other person know about this transaction, so e combine the transaction with another transaction of the same size, for example, from address 1C3 to 1D4. E mean say by looking at the transaction, the observer no go fit determine which address receive the 1A1 address, because the bitcoin fit don originate from 1D4 or 1E5.

UPDATE
Among the applications wey be pioneers for the implementation of the CoinJoin concept:

Congratulations to the Wasabi and JoinMarket developers! JoinMarket pioneered a lot of CoinJoin science (and BTW, belcher wrote an excellent & comprehensive wiki article on privacy), while Wasabi na the first wallet wey implement CoinJoin in both a highly-usable and sound way. As both a signer and a donor to the CoinJoin bounty fund, I'm thrilled that these two pieces of software exist!

For everyone looking to improve their privacy, I highly recommend checking out Wasabi, especially over centralized "mixers.". -snip-

Note:

-snip- Wasabi no be our friend any more. Dem joined the enemy's boat. So I think e important to either remove them from OP or add a very prominent note about them not supporting Privacy and Anonymity any more but the opposite. This na a very disappointing move on Wasabi side and e disgusts me but e be wetin e be. -snip-

See also this link: https://blog.wasabiwallet.io/zksnacks-blacklisting-update/

They still didn't explain how exactly is zkSNACKs Ltd going to blacklist certain unspent transaction outputs if they are not monitoring and collecting user data

We didn't explain, because e trivial. By architecture, the Wasabi coordinator cannot breach the privacy of its users. E no mean say the coordinator chooses to not collect data, but e mean say e couldn't collect even if e wanted to. The coordinator only know of the UTXOs to take part in coinjoins so does the public and that no be a privacy leak.

7. CoinSwap
back to table of contents
Gregory Maxwell16 in the following thread first introduced CoinSwap:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=321228.0
CoinSwap go protect transaction information between the person wey dey pay (payer) and the person wey receive payment (recipient). CoinSwap allow all parties involved to do transactions by including a guarantee wey make sure say no party fit thief Bitcoin from each other. Inside CoinSwap, we need a third party to act as the middleman (liaison) between the payer and recipient, and some transactions must happen inside the CoinSwap scheme. Some transaction methods wey dem dey use for CoinSwap include 2-of-2 escrow and hash-locked transactions.

CoinSwap Protocol:
For this protocol, we assume say all parties get private communication channels. We fit explain the CoinSwap protocol like this:
Alice: The payer
Bob: The recipient
Carol: The middleman (escrow).

This protocol divide into 3 phases: phase 0, phase 1, and phase 2.

Phase 0: Sets up the escrows and their timeout refunds.
Phase 1: Makes it so that if Bob gets paid there is no way for Carol to fail to get paid.
Phase 2: Just releases the escrows directly because everyone is happy that cheating isn't possible.

CoinSwap Protocol Diagram.16

Phase 0
For phase 0, we get the process of making an escrow transaction among the participants. Alice make one escrow transaction TX_0, which be a 2-of-2 escrow between Alice and Carol using Alice's bitcoin. We fit read this transaction like: "Alice go pay a certain amount of bitcoin to Carol if Alice and Carol agree."
Then, Carol also make a TX_1 transaction, which be a 2-of-2 escrow between Carol and Bob by using Carol's bitcoin. We fit read this one like: "Carol go pay a certain amount of bitcoin to Bob if Carol and Bob agree."

To secure this phase, Carol make a TX_0_refund with a specific time limit; this go make Alice collect her bitcoin back from Carol if something happen for the future. Just like Alice, Carol also make TX_1_refund, which go make Carol collect her bitcoin back from Bob if something happen. We no dey send TX_0_refund and TX_1_refund to the network; the transactions wey dem dey send to the bitcoin network for this stage na TX_0 and TX_1.

Phase 1
Phase 1 dey prepare transaction guarantees for all participants involved. E mean say if Bob take coins from Carol, Carol fit also make payments from Alice. One hash-locked transaction scheme dey support this.
For this scheme, Bob choose a secret keyword X, calculate the HX value (which be the hash of X, using formula HX=H(X)), and send HX to Alice and Carol. Alice create a new transaction TX_2 wey go take coins from TX_0 using Carol's signature and the X value, then pay am to Carol's address. Just like Alice, Carol make a new transaction with a TX_3 hash-locked transaction scheme wey go take coins from TX_1 using Bob's signature and the X value, then pay am to Bob.
For this phase, if Bob cheat and pick up coins using TX_3, Carol fit take payments using TX_2 because the value of X go don dey known when Bob use TX_3 and publish am to the Bitcoin network.

Phase 2
If TX_2 and TX_3 no dey sent to the Bitcoin network, then phase 2 fit continue. For this phase, Bob tell Carol the value of X, and Carol make a new transaction TX_4 wey take coins from TX_1 using Bob's signature. Bob fit use the TX_4 transaction to collect payment. Just like that, Alice make a TX_5 transaction wey go take coins from TX_0 using Carol's signature and pay am to Carol. Carol fit send TX_5 transactions to the bitcoin network to collect payment.

If this protocol complete, only TX_4 and TX_5 transactions (we use TX_0 and TX_1) go dey sent to the Bitcoin network, while the other transactions go dey deleted and no go reach the network.

CoinSwap na an example of the Zero Knowledge Contingent Payment method17 wey get the following features:
1. Hash-locked transaction
2. Time-locked transaction
3. 2-of-2 escrow transaction

Inside CoinSwap, every step of the protocol must follow the right order to produce a safe and guaranteed transaction without needing a trusted third party.

8. MixCoin
back to table of contents
MixCoin na one way wey dey make sure say mixing services no go do anyhow—e dey bring "accountability" come table18. The sweet thing about MixCoin be say, you no need change anything for the main Bitcoin wahala (protocol) before you use am; everything just dey flow.
Inside MixCoin, na two sets of people dey involved: the person wey wan scatter him Bitcoin (randomization) and the person wey dey provide that service (the mixer).

The main koko of MixCoin be say e get "proof of transaction." If the service provider decide to carry bad heart try thief the user Bitcoin, the user get proof of the deal wey dem sign. E fit just take that proof open the service provider yansh, and before you know, the provider reputation go scatter!

The following is a diagram illustrating the MixCoin Protocol18:

Na some steps user A and service provider M must follow:
Request: User A go tell M say "abeg, I wan do bitcoin transaction." Signature: If M gree, M go sign all the transaction info wey A send using him own private key. That signed paper na the "evidence" wey A go keep. Anybody wey get M public key go fit verify say the thing na real. Payment: Next, A go pay the agreed amount of bitcoin to M, plus the small change wey be transaction fee. The Result: If M play fair and send the bitcoin back as e suppose be, then A fit just delete the evidence. But if M show am shege (try cheat), A get right to publish the proof to the whole world to show say M no be honest person.

9. Merge Avoidance
back to table of contents
Merge avoidance na one term wey Mike Hearn introduce to help us identify where Bitcoin privacy dey leak.

Merge avoidance na the idea say, instead of you to go pack all your transaction money put for one big basket, you go break them into small-small pieces. When you do this, e go come very hard for anybody to follow your movement or identify how much you truly get or who you send am to19. Basically, small-small transactions dey hide your tracks well-well.

Merge avoidance dey useful for plenty situations. Make we take example: Alice and Bob dey work for the same company and dem dey pay them salary with Bitcoin. If Bob suspect say the company dey pay Alice pass am, he fit tell Alice make she send am small amount of Bitcoin. Once she do that, Bob go use that small transaction trace to analyze Alice wallet and confirm whether his suspicion true or not.

Implementation properties

Why this scheme dey sweet to implement:
  • E no hard to start -You no need big update. Even if your algorithm no too sharp, e go still improve your privacy small-small. As time dey go, you fit upgrade am, and you no need force everybody for the world to change anything.
  • E simple like ABC: No complex part, no "big state machines." You no need fear say if somebody phone off or network mess up for another country, everything go spoil.
  • No central boss: Nobody dey control am, and you no need any server to meet up.
  • No legal wahala: Since you no dey use any "mixer" service, government no go tag your activity as money laundering
  • .[E strong: For some other methods like CoinJoin, even small info fit make your privacy leak. Merge avoidance no get that kind wahala.

Some side wey e no too strong (Downsides):
  • You dey rely on others: How well your privacy go reach depend on how smart the person wey dey send you money construct their own transaction. Most people no even get time to care about that, so we just dey pray say wallet software go do the right thing by default.
  • E go increases the number of transactions, but e no too much like that — a transaction na only a list for inputs, outputs and a two-field header (version and lock time). Inputs and outputs not really changed over a good CoinJoin implementation, and version/locktime could be easily compressed/varint encoded to save space. The difference go be on the order of bytes rather than kilobytes.
  • E rely on payment protocol: Everything for this side dey depend on the "payment protocol" (BIP70). We really need to make BIP70 easy to use everywhere, because if we no fix address reuse, none of these privacy schemes go work well.

10. Mixing Service
back to table of contents
You sabi say apart from all those long grammar we don talk so, there still get other ways people dey use to manage their privacy for Bitcoin. One of the main ones na mixing services (dem dey call am "randomization").

Bitcoin Mixing20

Those services get different style wey dem dey take mix person coin, but as we see am, dem fit divide them into two major groups 21.

In the first group, For this one, the service go tell you make you send your Bitcoin enter one virtual wallet wey dem dey control. Once the money reach there, dem go give you another Bitcoin wey no get link with your old one. If you get person wey you wan pay, you go just give them the person address, and the service go use their own "clean" coin pay the person for you.

The second group These ones no dey hold your money for long. Dem dey use style like CoinJoin—where dem go gather many transactions join body, put them for one big pot, and scatter them again. E come really hard for any body to know which money comot from where.

The wahala:
You go pay fee, usually from 0.5% reach 3%. But no be play-play risk o! Because the moment you send your Bitcoin go that manager address, you no get power over that money again. If the person decide to carry your coin run, no court go fit reverse that transaction. Once e gone, e gone, no return!

For Felix Maduakor’s work 20 on Mixing Services / Anonymous Bitcoin, page 18-20, the Mixing Method divided into three categories
 Transactions
(you fit check the full detail here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/3yapwyfz72tvswh/BA_mixing_services.pdf?dl=0), he group the mixing style into these three:

1. Decentralized Mixing (P2P Mixing)

A figure of P2P Mixing Service

Plenty scientific papers don drop wey talk about algorithms wey go allow anonymous bitcoin transfer. Some of these algorithms dem don already put inside different cryptocurrency by default (like Zerocash22), but as I dey write this [-thesis-], no method don really blow for the Bitcoin network. Unlike the Centralized Mixing Services (CMS), P2P Mixing must dey inside the Bitcoin wallet software before you fit use am.

2. Centralized Mixing Services (CMS)

A figure of Centralized Mixing Services

These ones na commercial website. Dem go shout for every corner say dem be "privacy experts." Dem dey charge reach 3% fee, and most times, even these guys use the same P2P algorithms wey I talk about inside their server.

3. Off Chain Mixing

Normally, anybody fit see every transaction wey waka for Bitcoin network through the blockchain. But recently, plenty brainy people don dey try find way to send and receive Bitcoin without make everything show for blockchain.
One of the ways to solve this problem na the Lightning Network.
Lightning Network dey make transactions fast pass light, and e fit even remove transaction costs sef.

-snip- To dey anonymous dey very hard, especially with blockchain systems where too much data must dey public, and even for other areas sef (e.g. some weaknesses don already dey for Tor). You suppose always get am for mind sey any anonymity system you use, e fit fail you one day. If you ever feel too confident sey you anonymous, you don miss road. ...
-snip- Even if a mixing service or algorithm look like say e dey reliable now, just one leak or small error for the setup fit make hacker fit show everybody who you be for all the past transactions wey the service don process. Even if the service fix the leak or error later, all the transactions wey dem process before the fix still dey vulnerable—e no get way to turn am back. -snip-

Wetin dey between Bitcoin Mixer and CoinJoin23:
Quote
#MixerCoinJoin
1Closed-source and the system cannot be verified.Open-source and can't be verified by the system (in general).
2A mixer controls the coin. The user controls the coin
3Privacy is lost if the mixer keeps the mixing activity or the mixing method is wrong.[24]Privacy is lost if CoinJoin's implementation is incorrect.
