The first place finisher plays the Champions League qualifying, the second and third finishers play the Conference League qualifying. All kinds of qualifying matches are played, there is no direct participation in the tournament. There is not a big difference between being second and third. Yes it is not impossible that Galatasaray is pulling off another Arsenal, leading the table for so long throughout the season and then start struggling.
