Xabi Alonso’s three man defense is obviously not working as he expects, Chelsea have conceded so many goals in just the few games they have played even they have also scored a lot of goals.

Xabi needs to be flexible and go the four man defense because Chelsea don’t yet have the capacity to manage games with just three players in defense.

Maybe Xabi is not as good as we hyped him to be.

Only time will tell how Alonso will be judged. Maybe he will struggle at Chelsea, maybe he will find success. It will be better to judge his performances after Chelsea go on a run of around ten successive games with a full squad (and without injuries).

The true test of a good manager should not be only when he has his complete team, that is, his key players in place.

A true test of a real manager is a manager who is still able to perform and do his job even when he has some certain key players injured, so I will agree that it is better to rate his performance after ten successive games, but I will not agree with you saying that we should rate it based on a full squad, not a team with injuries. His performance after ten successive games will be judged with or without injury because I think that is the better standard.

Decent bench ? I don't think so, all 3 players overperformed extremely.

Realistically, with Joao Pedro out (obviously) how many points would you have predicted from both Verbruggen and Gomez vs Arsenal, then how many would you expect from Thomas vs Nottingham Forest, I could have expected more than 6 points from all 3 combined, perhaps, I'm seeing it differently but there is no way I would have activated it for this week, except that's the only option available the rest of the season.

Lol I said the same thing to myself, I mean there's literally nothing special about a bench like that; Verbruggen against Arsenal, Thomas against Nottingham Forest and Gomez against the best defence in the league.  That's a match points bench at best.
