I'm not so sure. He is a great player but younger players are coming and they will probably take up his spot soon. He is 37 now and in two years it's questionable how will he perform.

Do not forget Bruno Fernandes as well, he is also quite good. It is not about being the best player, it's about being the best fit as well. One on one maybe he would beat anyone else, he could be a lot better but when you put him at striker and play, and remove lets say Bruno or Silva, then you would end up with a worse team than put someone else at striker and put back Silva or Bruno.

I disagree with your first sentence. Luck has a part to play in football, no matter how good a team is. A team can be very good and unlucky. We've see situations where a team play so well, dominant the match but they were always unlucky when it comes to scoring. It happened in the Argentina vs Saudi Arabia game. Argentina were really unlucky in that game and the Saudis capitalized on that.

While the present is important Portugal needs to also think about the future, Ronaldo is 37 years old and he will be 41 during the next world cup, can Ronaldo keep his current level or even increase it at such age during the next world cup to be disputed at 2026? i totally agree with you, i've been arguing with some friends about how much Ronaldo's performance dropped and he's not the same effective player anymore, the fact that he played in all matches is good enough for him and his age, he's not as effective as he was and a lot of people don't want that to happen that's why its hard for them to accept the fact that he's reaching the end of his career, Portugal still has a decent team though but i don't expect a lot from them in the 2024 Euro.

I don’t understand why people blame the coach when Ronaldo is to be blamed, he scheduled an controversial interview right at the start of the World Cup which created unnecessary distraction for Portugal player’s.
