actually I don't like soccer... But I can still say that even some die-hard fans can still bet against their team once they are sure that the game will come and they will win the bet. This makes me remember one of my friends who may be die-hard Arsenal fans, but whenever Arsenal is having a match against Manchester City, it always stakes on Manchester City to win Arsenal, and it always happens. It has been doing that now for over two seasons now. So I just believe that the spirit of money can change someone easily.

This isn't about the spirit of money changing people but people knowing the right thing to do. Gambling is a business and you should try your best to always win when gambling. Don't intentionally sabotage yourself just to make your emotions fell alright, that's wrong.

Gambling should be done without emotion attached, an alternative decision you can take is not to gamble for that particular game. Keep the money for other bets since you know your team is going to lose but when you have the chance to make money on that bet, take the chances.

You should take that chance because those type of bet don't always come regularly when you see an opportunity to make money take it . You're not harming your favorite team by betting against them instead you're helping yourself to detach your emotions from your bets.

I don't really get your point.
Are you trying to tell us that betting on our favorite club is a bad habit? Or betting for entertainment purposes is the wrong way? 

There is nothing wrong with your nephew when he gambles for happiness. That is good, he doesn't chase the winning or being too obsessed with the prizes. But borrowing money for gambling is he bad idea, you should stop giving him money for gambling. If he asks to borrow money, you are better to explain to him that you only have money for daily needs. You must tell him that he shouldn't gamble with loan money for safe gambling. When a gambler uses loan money for gambling, it is no longer ideal gambling. Since the main purpose is for entertainment or happiness only, he doesn't need to force himself to gamble when he has no money.

Even if he likes betting on his favorite team or understands how sports betting works, what he does is a wrong practice which is to borrow money from someone to gamble, and if he gets in the habit of that, it can be destructive for him in the future because he will later on start taking bigger loans only to gamble and if he manages to lose that money, he can get himself in big trouble that he might not be able to come out from.

So it's obviously better if you advise him either not to gamble or not to borrow money for it because borrowed money if lost in a bet will be a problem since he wouldn't be able to pay it off, now it's you he is borrowing from so he doesn't have much of a problem, but he will if the lender is an outsider.

When betting i don’t let my emotions take charge, nobody wants his team to loose but when the odds are not in favor of my team and in actuality i can clearly see it would be difficult for my team then i will have to bet against them but in most cases i often choose not to bet on the game, i skip that match because I can’t bear to see my team loose. I can't stand watching my team lose, and I can't gamble on them knowing full well that they can lose and jeopardize my chances of winning.Of course, gambling is about the best team winnings, but I don't care for my team because money must be generated in every instance. Sometimes it's really hard to bet against my favorite team but money matters. Depends on how juicy the odds are, I might bet against my favorite team as long as it's reasonable to do so. In case the odds are favoring my criteria and it happened to be with my favorite team, I will go that way.

I admit that even though there are times I understand the risks that my favorite team is on the verge of losing in their upcoming match, I risk some money on them thinking of the possibility that they might turn the game upside down and upset the considered favorite team in that match.

If that happened, a good profit is waiting but not always the case that I will repeatedly be doing it.

I don't watch football matches that much, so I am unsure if this is the question for gamblers like me. But, sometimes, I place bets on cricket games. If you know your opponent's team is way stronger and your team is likely to lose the game, you can definitely place a bet against your team. But, if there is a 70% and 30% chance, still I will choose my team to place a bet. If the percentage is more than that, then I will not place a bet at all. But, if it's 90-10, there we go, buddy. Most people imagine football is the one that people talk about, but when we start to talk about other sports that makes more sense to play against your own team. Like for example I am a big Spurs fan in NBA, san Antiono spurs not Tottenham one. And we have won 5 rings, that's a huge deal, not a lot of people have 5 rings, we have Duncan who did for example. This is why I believe that we are at a level where it is an elite team and unmatched by many other teams, only a few won more than us ever.

It actually depends in the gambler's perspective because at the end of the day, they are more as a gambler rather than just a fan who is afraid to bet against the team that they are a fan of. Fair point. I don't view betting on favorite team as a support because our bets doesn't reach them also betting against them is not a form of betrayal because you simply acknowledge your team wekaness over their opponent which we should knew very well because we are always watching their games and follow their performance.

We are betting to gain some money and not to support favorite teams. I will watch their games if I want to support them but not through betting because it's just a waste on betting to them while we know that the chance of winning is very low.
