I just took a quick look at coinmarketcap and coingecko and to me it looks like that Litecoin took a hit just as big as most other altcoins out there and Litecoin is also not really recovering fast or coming back stronger than all the other altcoins. In terms of outperforming bitcoin. I think that there will definitely be phases over a few days or even a few weeks where Litecoin can outperform bitcoin in terms of gains for example when we get into an alt-season again.
Overall though i think that Litecoin is one of those altcoins from the very first years of cryptos that are still big but slowly but surely losing relevance. Litecoin is just not offering the same amount of functionality that Ethereum for example does.

In my opinion it would be wrong to consider a top altcoin of one era to be considered as dead. If you managed to buy litecoin at the less than 100$ range then hold it for a bigger sell price in future. There is no harm is holding it if the total capital invested in Litecoin is low but this becomes a personal preference. I would give it time before I exit because my holding time is longer, but you might have a different approach.

Definitely not going to outperform bitcoin. But it can outperform other coins and is a better long term store as compared to many other shitcoins.

In my opinion it would be wrong to consider a top altcoin of one era to be considered as dead. If you managed to buy litecoin at the less than 100$ range then hold it for a bigger sell price in future. There is no harm is holding it if the total capital invested in Litecoin is low but this becomes a personal preference. I don't think much about the litecoin issue, although there are some signals and accumulated before, and also understand why the ongoing event could cause many people to pour interest in it. However, honestly, litecoin has grown independently since its creation until now, it is still the same, expanding partnerships, accepting more payments, but comparing it with btc I don't think it's necessary because it doesn't deserve to be on par with btc. Some upcoming events may bring some hype around, but as we are in the crypto market, the mainstream is still dominated and influenced by the price of btc.

It is still one of the good options to invest out there and the gambling industry always adds Litecoin in their option for betting so it will not be dead as long as there is usage, demand, and supporters. Try betting for casino originals like Crash, you will still see a lot of gamblers who prefer using Litecoin than other shitty cryptocurrencies.
I will still pick Litecoin over meme coins like Shiba or the new one in BRC-20. Somehow it's not created as a joke. From $88 to $89 in just hours, there's also a chance for those doing short-term trading to make money from this coin if they know how it's done.
About the further developments, yes there is none but it doesn't mean it's not valuable. What do you mean by outperforming Bitcoin? We know Bitcoin is still people's favorite, while Litecoin and other coins are the second investment. I don't think that any of alternative coin has capable to outperform Bitcoin and I also think that it won't gonna also happen and that doesn't means that lite coin is dead in my opinion. In my opinion Litecoin is one of the best alt-coin I always put it after the Ethereum, BNB . If anyone chooses an alternative for the long term, I would suggest Litecoin. In my opinion, neither of both. I guess the Litecoin price will very likely move very much in parallel to Bitcoin's, only some steps lower.

Litecoin is imo a good long time investment, and I would not be surprised if it returns into the top 10 by marketcap. You can already see that it's not dead and constantly evolving because they only relatively recently integrated MWEB as a technology which is still far from being implemented in BTC. They also pretty fastly adapted Ordinals (and on LTC it makes much more sense than on BTC).

Once upon a time litecoin was believed to become one of the most important coins in this market, as some saw in bitcoin the equivalent of gold and they saw in litecoin the equivalent of silver, so those people expected that bitcoin will become a store of value rarely used on transactions while litecoin became the most widely used coin.

But those days are far behind us and since then it seems litecoin has failed to fulfill its potential, and with this in mind any idea that litecoin could outperform bitcoin during the next months or years seems unfounded.

I agree that it is better than it was a few years ago, but probably worse than it was a decade ago. It is not at the top three, that's going to be a trouble in the end and we shouldn't really be seeing this type of situation. I believe that we shouldn't really be seeing Litecoin all that much, it shouldn't really be a worry and we would probably see it do a lot better.

I hope that it doesn't get that much worse, I think it is looking good and there is a good top 10 place for it in the future, that shouldn't be a deal. I think it would be a big deal if it goes to top 5, and I do not think that it will reach there, but if you remove all the stablecoins from the rankings, then there is a chance that the highest ceiling is top 5.

However, the price of all altcoins rises and falls above the Bitcoin market, so when the price of Bitcoin increases, the price of all altcoins including Litecoin will increase. I have used and invested in Litecoin before and I must say that is one of those altcoins which even though it has a proven track record and was created back then before crypto was plagued with scamming projects it is very underestimated.

Perhaps it is due to the public or much of the most greedy part of the crypto community is not interested in simple PoW alts like Litecoin or Dash anymore. Now it is about NFTs, Decentralized contracts, AI, people are always looking to anticipate on the next big thing in order to make a lot of money, instead appreciating Litecoin for what it is and what it does.

Don't get me wrong, even though the price of Litecoin has been stagnant for a very long time,
historically the price of Litecoin after the halving has also experienced a bull run, the first halving in 2011 and 2023 Litecoin pump,
the second halving in 2015 and 2017 Litecoin pump, and the third halving in 2019 and 2021 Litecoin pump,
then the fourth halving in 2023 and I'm sure 2025 will also pump and even reach new ath, so don't worry because history will repeat itself.

it's quite hard to say that litecoin is dead meanwhile its market capitalization is among the highest.
Honestly i'd say that lite coin is far from dead, right now there are halving events thats gonna be coming but we still don't know how significant this will be.

I don't know if there are some big updates that happened within the project, but nevertheless, they have been out in the limelight for years already, and nobody is talking about that coin anymore.

Now can Litecoin outperform Bitcoin? The only advantages Litecoin has over Bitcoin is the low transaction fee, profitability, and transaction speed, but overall, Bitcoin has the advantage, and to answer that, it's a no. I mean can you imagine a coin that has little to no update can outperform the top cryptocurrency right now in terms of market cap? I'm a bit surprised that it's still in the top 50 despite of it not being talked on the internet for years. Well, it did drop down to below the top 10 though.

Now is Litecoin dead? I'm not a holder of Litecoin, but they have a big community that's why they are still at the top 50 right now in terms of market cap. There are still people who are using Litecoin for various reasons. Many exchanges are still accepting Litecoin because it has been there for a long time, and the trust has been built. It's just that there aren't no big updates from the project for years.

I consider Charlie Lee's resignation positive for LTC. It has since then become more decentralized, and more similar to Bitcoin. It's even possible that with Charlie Lee still as undiscuted leader, Litecoin would be today among the coins classified as a "security" by the SEC.

Yes, because the cryptocurrency media is full of paid trash by premined centralized coins with zero innovation, all based on the PBFT consensus from ... 1999. There are however increasing complaints about this kind of "native advertising" in crypto media, I believe legal action will soon follow. And the recent move by the SEC, and the upcoming MiCa regulation in Europe will cut the market for centralized coins drastically.

Centralized coins in the recent past had an advantage because they can create premined coins out of thin air to pay for bounties, airdrops and marketing. I believe this will perhaps not come to an end still, but slow down considerably.

It's well possible that both LTC and Monero, for me the leading decentralized coins, will be in the top 10 in 1-2 years again, once the dust has cleared and most centralized "security coins" have been dumped down to a fraction of their current value. I'm a bit less positive about Doge but it still holds well. And other decentralized no-security coins like Grin, Groestlcoin, Peercoin, Namecoin and Signum (ex Burst) could re-enter the top 100.

I think that is a bit of an unknown situation, I wouldn't be able to say litecoin wouldn't outperform bitcoin, but I also wouldn't be able to say it wouldn't outperform neither, I can't say which one will happen. I think it is going to be a bit of a different situation and we would have to learn to just wait and see, that is the hardest thing in the crypto world, we need to act quickly if we want to profit and sometimes taking our time and waiting to see what is going to happen is a bit of a different situation.

I think it is going to be a tough situation if we act quickly because nobody really knows what is going to happen, so we just need to make sure that it is going to be a bit of a tough situation that should be the important thing, just wait and see what will happen.

Well that sucks. I can't imagine how bloated LTC will be once the NFT hype makes a comeback. It will increase on-chain fees, greatly defeating LTC's purpose as digital money for day-to-day payments. Developers should leave NFTs to smart contract blockchains like ETH and BSC, while leaving BTC, LTC, and DOGE alone. Ultimately, the community will decide the best path forward for these cryptocurrencies.

While LTC now has NFT features, there hasn't been any major movement in market prices. The majority is still focused on other coins, particularly those with staking and smart contract features. Only Bitcoin is the exception because it's the one cryptocurrency that started it all. At least, Litecoin has strong support from mainstream exchanges. The competition is pretty stiff these days. There are so many coins out there with attractive features. If Litecoin wants to get all of the attention, the team is going to need to increase marketing/promotion efforts. It's all about the brand. Not the cryptocurrency itself. You can see how ETH is doing better than LTC, even though ETH has a much higher supply. VCs, institutional investors, and whales are all into ETH.

Suprisingly, LTC has managed to stay relevant in the competitive crypto market. It may not have much demand compared to other coins, but it's one of the most accepted cryptocurrencies in the world. Nearly every exchange has an LTC trading pair. It's possible LTC will survive alongside BTC and ETH for generations. As long as it stays decentralized, we should have nothing to worry about. I agree with you. Also, I'm used to thinking about Litecoin as a currency, not as an investment. So for me, price doesn't really matter, I'm using LTC because of fast, cheap, and secure transactions. And I think I'm not the only one.

Seems not to be so much of a problem. See Johoe's stats site: the NFT craze in the second week of June only led to a minuscule increase in fees, and with the lowest possible fee (which is much lower than 0.1 USD cent) you always got your transaction through in a few hours.

Take into account that the "capacity" of LTC is higher than Bitcoin's. There's the same 4 vMB limit (see the code here in consensus.h) as for Bitcoin for every block - but blocks are deployed each 2.5 minutes. So the capacity of LTC is four times Bitcoin's.

Of course if the NFT fad was extended in time, the bloat could have led to a heavier blockchain, making running full LTC nodes more expensive. But the current NFT craze was a quite short-lived craze (a couple of months) and impacted BTC more than LTC.

So I'm quite neutral on this - I'm against NFTs on BTC, but on LTC they can have their niche.

Litecoin is one of the potential Altcoins, therefore it is impossible for it to just die because it is still in great demand by traders and investors. it's just that the development team needs to be able to compete with other projects in order to raise its ranking.

Seems not to be so much of a problem. See Johoe's stats site: the NFT craze in the second week of June only led to a minuscule increase in fees, and with the lowest possible fee (which is much lower than 0.1 USD cent) you always got your transaction through in a few hours.

Take into account that the "capacity" of LTC is higher than Bitcoin's. There's the same 4 vMB limit (see the code here in consensus.h) as for Bitcoin for every block - but blocks are deployed each 2.5 minutes. So the capacity of LTC is four times Bitcoin's.

Of course if the NFT fad was extended in time, the bloat could have led to a heavier blockchain, making running full LTC nodes more expensive. But the current NFT craze was a quite short-lived craze (a couple of months) and impacted BTC more than LTC.

So I'm quite neutral on this - I'm against NFTs on BTC, but on LTC they can have their niche.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But even though LTC has greater transaction capacity, it could still get clogged in the future if the NFT hype persists. I think I can live with NFTs on LTC, as long as they all move away from Bitcoin. The community will utimately decide if it wants to keep NFTs on the BTC blockchain or approve developers' proposal to block Ordinals inscriptions for good. No matter where NFTs are deployed, we can't deny the fact that ETH is and will always be the #1 platform for these kinds of tokens.

LTC is doing good for now, so don't expect it to disappear anytime soon. With Litecoin's block reward halving right around the corner (August 2, 2023), we should expect market prices to "pump" albeit for a short period of time. Just my opinion

Having some people attack a good thing is in the nature of the world we live in right now. Obviously it is not a shitcoin and obviously it is a great project that helped a lot of people profit. Litecoin was a "clone" of Bitcoin with a few minor tweaks (mainly a reduced block time, higher max supply, and different PoW algorithm). Things have changed completely once developers added the "Mimblewimble" privacy feature to the LTC blockchain. But that wasn't enough to "pump" LTC's price, because the vast majority of investors are into "meme" coins and cryptocurrencies with smart contract capabilities (eg: ETH, ADA, BNB, etc.). It's all about "De-Fi", NFTs, and memes these days. Don't expect LTC to rise unless BTC turns extremely-bullish. It's likely LTC will go to $1k once BTC goes all the way to $1m in the future.

Despite the stagnant market prices, Litecoin is one of the most tried-and-tested blockchain networks in the industry. It's been running fine without issues since day one (AFAIK). You don't see that on newer coins such as Solana and Polygon. LTC is listed in almost any crypto exchange you could imagine, so don't count on its disappearance anytime soon. How on earth could Litecoin possibly outperform Bitcoin? That's hilarious. Litecoin is indeed a fork of Bitcoin, but it has been overshadowed by other coins in the past few years and has fallen quite a few ranks on Coinmarketcap. The past few months, though, have shown a decent performance, which is quite contradictory because the market has severely suffered while Litecoin didn't, even when the market was at its lowest. I remember Litecoin being valued at $54 less than a year ago; it's now worth $110, which is more than double its value within a matter of a few months, something that Bitcoin or other coins haven't achieved in 2023.

LTC price has been moving between $80 - $100 for the past weeks, with the coming halving in 10 days, I don't think there will be much to be expected because usually, when a blockchain is expected to undergo halving, two weeks before that day is usually dump from traders as they want to have their profits before that day, the wise ones don't want to be trapped in the circle of whales games, so I don't think there is much to be expected from to that day.

A few years ago, Litecoin had its heyday and had a fairly expensive price because it had a fairly high demand, whereas now it has a low price. My hope is that Litecoin has a good project for the community and is very useful, so that high demand returns to Litecoin and it is certain that the price will easily go back up to being expensive.

I would like to say that now the price of LTC has not fallen so much compared to other coins. Probably the main thing is not the demand, but the bear market. Now absolutely all coins have lost value, some more, some less. Litecoin is one of the few coins that managed to recover well after the last bottom. Hopefully the price will be above $100 in the near future.

These are exciting times for Litecoin. The halving is only one day away, so we should expect prices to "pump" soon. Now it'll be up to developers to introduce something new and fresh that will keep LTC pumping for a long time. Otherwise, the hype will fade quickly after the halving. After all, there are many competitors on the market striving to reach the top.

I'm waiting for the day when LTC becomes one of the top 5 cryptocurrencies in market cap. It's way below newcomers into crypto such as BNB, ADA, and SOL. If LTC does make a comeback, don't expect it to be worth below the "triple digits" ever again. Maybe $1k per LTC will be possible someday? Just my thoughts

I don't think there will be much to be expected because usually, when a blockchain is expected to undergo halving, two weeks before that day is usually dump from traders as they want to have their profits before that day, the wise ones don't want to be trapped in the circle of whales games, so I don't think there is much to be expected from to that day.

Agree. Litecoin's price in particular seems not really to react much to halvings. In the prior halvings, 2015 and 2019, the market around halvings - if we consider LTC/BTC -  was even bearish, with major pumps having occurred at times totally unrelated to the halving date (halvings marked in red):

This is not the case this time, when LTC is more or less in a sideways market, slightly bullish with respect to 2022. The brief $115 peak could be related to halving speculation, but this is not totally clear to me, it could also having been caused by euphoria because a jump in the general altcoin market was expected at the time around Bitcoin's 31800 high. As long as Bitcoin stays within its current range (let's say 27000 to 32000), I currently don't expect too much variation in the LTC price.

About post-halving expectations:

LTC has currently a trading volume of ~500 million-1 billion USD per 24 hs. Miners generate only 660000 USD worth of LTC per day (1 LTC=92 USD, 24 blocks/hour, 12,5 LTC/block). Even if they sell all of them instantly, it's only 0,06% to 0,12% of the total trading volume. So they have next to no power on the selling side. After the halving, miners' importance will go to 0.03 to 0.06 %. I don't think that makes much of a difference. But it shows that LTC supply already isn't getting diluted much by miners. Even less than in the case of BTC, where they have 0,1-0,15% (25 million/day, 20 billion volume). Thus we could say that LTC is currently even more "scarce" than Bitcoin, if we only look at the supply side.

I'd suggest you consider other altcoins, especially those among the top ranks in market cap (top 5). Litecoin is struggling to reach a new ATH, probably because there's no "substance" to it. Developers need to come up with something new and fresh that would revive the hype once again. Otherwise, market prices will remain stagnant for a very long time. If they don't increase with every halving, miners could be mining at a loss. This could force LTC miners to switch to other chains, leaving it vulnerable against external attacks.

Unless BTC turns bullish for an extended period of time, don't expect LTC to get past the $100 range anytime soon. Don't get me wrong, though. LTC is a good coin with a solid foundation built upon it. Market prices aside, it's one of the most trusted and reliable blockchains after Bitcoin. After all, the block reward was cut in half without any positive reaction to the market price.

Strange that hashrate LTC has been constantly increasing even after halving, but the price has almost halved. So the miners are probably already at a loss or so. I agree that LTC will not be able to grow separately from the rest of the market, especially since the price after the main event of this coin fell almost twice. LTC as well as other coins need a bull run.

thats true, no innovation nothing with litecoin, the blockchain isn't even smart contract blockchain i just thing that it has quite low utility even at the level of that shitcoins, but
it seems even today the market capitalization of lite coin still holding up pretty well. still doesn't make me interested in investing in it and so does majority of people I guess.
this coin has already reached its peak potential I don't think there's anything left in this coin, not even good for investment since at best it will be quite small increase in the future even

Litecoin is not dead. It's alive and healthy as usual. But I wouldn't call it a "shitcoin", especially when it delivers as promised at a slow and steady pace. It's just that investors aren't that interested into Litecoin these days. All of the attention is on coins with smart contract capabilities, especially those that are attached to "De-Fi" and NFTs. The only exception to this is Bitcoin, because it was the first crypto that started this craze.

I wouldn't expect LTC to make a comeback right now, unless BTC turns bullish again. Just keep calm, buy some cheap LTC, and wait until the market goes back up again. Who knows if LTC goes to $1k someday? Just my opinion

Maybe BlackRock and Fidelity will launch Litecoin ETFs in the future? If these entities have a successful ETF launch for Bitcoin, I don't see why not. Grayscale recently won the case against the SEC to list its very own Bitcoin ETF. This is a very good sign for crypto in the US. With a friendly-regulatory environment, LTC won't be cheap ever again.

I think this is the golden opportunity to buy coins at a huge discount. I'm very confident LTC will rise to $500 within a few years from now. That said, the sky is the limit to how far Litecoin will go. As long as it stays decentralized, there should be nothing to worry about. Just my thoughts

Not important with Litecoin standings in the top ten coin market cap after seeing their price keep going down every day, almost three years when success making new all time high and litecoin price right now have going dump. I don't find any country have been adopted Litecoin as legal payment currency transaction and ever happening with fake news when Litecoin accepted in some company as payment currency but that news is not true and ever Litecoin up almost 40%.

Bitcoin first, then Litecoin and the others. For what I know, this is a slow and steady phase that could take years before we see promising results. I'd suggest you wait as the best is yet to come. With subsequent block reward halvings, LTC should be able to reach far beyond $1k in the future.

Unlike many overhyped altcoins, LTC has been proven to "deliver the goods" without sacrificing decentralization/censorship-resistance. It's a tried-and-tested Blockchain network that serves as experimental grounds for the main Bitcoin blockchain. Usually, new features are tested on LTC before they're integrated into BTC. Whereas BTC is often slow and expensive to use on a daily basis, LTC is all of the contrary (fast and cheap payments).

Unfortunaltely in most countries the gros of people are not as digital safy and prefer cash.

I would pretty much agree with you that Lite Coin has a lot of similarities with Bitcoin. Its blog chain ecosystem works much like Bitcoin. But that doesn't mean it can't be called Bitcoin, I agree with it. But I think lite coin is reliable among alternative coins. Maybe for bearish market, lite coin's situation is bad sometimes. though the good days of Litecoin had already gone , or much better called the golden days, I remember when this stays as ranking 3rd to bitcoin and stays there for a while.

You can say the same thing about almost all altcoins, at least about all blockchain platforms. All those "Ethereum killers" for example, what do they offer what Ethereum doesn't offer? (If it's lower fees, then ... well, we've a similarity to LTC ) They're almost all pure PoS coins based on traditional BFT mechanisms so they are also similar on consensus level.

There are relatively few coins which really have a dedicated use case, and they're often tokens (e.g. Maker as a base token for Dai, rollup coins, utility tokens).

What coins need to achieve is a network effect, i.e. users, merchants and exchanges. And Litecoin has succeeded here in some way: since 2021 it has over 100.000 transactions per day. In its "heyday", when it was at #2 or #3 in the cryptocurrency rankings, it had only around 5.000-10.000 (see here).

Yes many people like ot simple also those who work digital.
Unfortunaltely in most countries the gros of people are not as digital safy and prefer cash.
The country I live in has a cash dependency of over 50%. It looks as if unknown to the government. 

IMO, most of the countries are still relying to cash. Take a look at Japan, it's known to be one of the most advance in terms of technology but try to look at the stores there, many of them still prefer cash.

I wish for more posiblity to pay in LTC that will take a few years at best.

It's not about the wallet but about the people that use Litecoin as payment. That's what you want to happen for many folks to adopt and use LTC as payment. As I've said it's one of the choices of many merchants but it's not that enough through their numbers.

Litecoin has to build on its success as a payment coin, and reach out to more popular platforms. Perhaps also an OpenBazaar fork with LTC as main coin could be an interesting idea.

I think also the low-fee aspect could be exploited more. I don't understand why there are so few P2P exchanges offering direct onramping from fiat to coins which are not Bitcoin, because the fees (for example on Bisq) are a significant hurdle to "simply try out" a trade. A "LocalLitecoin" (in the vein of LocalBitcoins/LocalMonero) or adding LTC direct buys to P2P DEXes could be a quite good idea. It would give people a decentralized option to on- and offramp the cryptocurrency space using a coin with very low fees and without KYC, which enables for example to simply try out cryptos with a very low investment (10$ or even less).

Of course Lightning exchanges are also an option for that (Robosats ...) and LocalMonero is also quite good. But LN in its current state is not quite the best option for cryptocurrency newbies, and Monero is also significantly more difficult to use than LTC or BTC, so I guess a Litecoin-based "onramping site" has enormous potential.

I'd be careful about such news though, because we don't know which kind of whales are doing that. And before the halving there were some similar news ... and the price dipped deep.

However, everything looks like there was a stabilization in the LTC/BTC price in the recent days. In the very short term there's a downward movement, but it's all in the +-3% range (0.0024-0.0025) and thus still very far away from the stabilization line (0.0023x) and even more from the 0.00216 low reached in August.

One thing is certain and that is people don't care about decentralization these days. All they want is to make a lot of money in the shortest time possible. That's why we've seen centralized "shitcoins" eating Litecoin's "cake" these days. They're among the top ranks in market cap after Bitcoin. It's unfortunate to see how human greed has moved crypto away from its original purpose.

As I've said before, all of the attention is on smart contract platforms with NFT capabilities, as well as, "meme" coins/tokens, AI-based tokens, and the metaverse. LTC is a simple cryptocurrency only meant to be used for sending/receiving money. It's just like Bitcoin. Only that the latter has all of the attention because it was the first cryptocurrency that started this craze. At least, Litecoin has trading pairs on almost any crypto exchange you could imagine. Yes, most people need still this carrot to invest in a coin. They need a reason to believe in something for the price to go up, even if it's something like a halving, that's why probably the price spiked before the halving.

But I don't see NFTs really being still crucial and as already has been written, LTC does offer NFTs and memecoins via Ordinals. I don't know if it has a better token platform than LTC-20 (which is shit, just like BRC-20) but AI tokens and metaverse tokens could also be created in theory on the LTC platform, even RGB or Taro are possible as LTC has Taproot.

This didn't happen recently but was more a consequence of the Ethereum rise in 2015-16 and the 2017/18's ICO craze. LTC in these years fell below position 20. Now even after the harsh post-halving dip it's at #15, and if we ignore stablecoins and wrapped coins it's on position #12. Not bad, even if in the pre-halving craze it was in the top-10 for some time.

Because of LTC's unpopularity, market prices have remained stagnant for quite a long time. It's even worse now, as LTC is suffering dearly because of the bear market. The halving didn't have any positive effect over the price. I'd just wait until BTC turns bullish again to see what happens. Who knows how long will it take for LTC to go all the way towards $1k?

That looks exactly like the "LocalBitcoins" site. The only problem is that it's outdated. A pity, because a P2P exchange would've increased mainstream adoption for LTC by a long shot. At least, we still have the ability to trade LTC via the use of atomic swaps.

In a hostile regulatory environment, we need as much decentralized alternatives as possible to keep LTC afloat. DEXs and atomic swaps would be the only way to get in and out of LTC in a decentralized manner. I would've hoped that AgoraDesk added LTC to its platform. Maybe it will happen someday?

I think there is currently a big gap between Bitcoin & Ethereum and "the whole rest of altcoins" (maybe BNB, XRP and maybe Toncoin and of course stablecoins have a special position still, due to their "enterprise" character and their link to popular services). But I see LTC firmly in the second tier, together with the toothless "Ethereum killers" and of course Monero. Doge still profits from its association with Elon Musk but the market cap difference between Doge and LTC is already fading away. Doge is a coin I have sympathy for but I quite have a sensation that their heyday could be over, and then LTC as the more solid alterntive could again lead in the space of the "decentralized" coins.

Which was totally expectable, because LTC never has reacted in any way to a halving (save some speculative action before the halving). I've already written about that in the thread. About longer-term effects, the halving could have a minimal effect on scarcity (i.e. the supply/demand equation), but LTC's outstanding supply is already quite small, a lot has been mined already, very similar to Bitcoin four years ago. The good thing about that is that massive miner dumps are becoming less likely.

I would've hoped that AgoraDesk added LTC to its platform. Maybe it will happen someday?  

That would of course be really cool. I don't know if this ever has been proposed to them. They're closer to the Monero community though, so I don't know how realistic it is.

I've asked in the Litecointalk forum if anybody knows about the state of LitecoinLocal.net. A mod from the forum answered but they didn't even know about its existence. The interesting thing is that even if the site looks completely dead with its outdated offers, there seems to be some money in their hot wallets still (~40 LTC). That is not true that no coin can outperform BTC. Actually in an altseason, all the projects start outperforming BTC which is why we saw a massive pump in an altcoin project in a altseason. This can be seen through the altcoin and bitcoin pair. This is amazing but this doesn't last long and after few weeks and month all these project start dumping and btc start outperforming again.

Litecoin was created to be a better version of bitcoin. It has similarities but in terms of performance bitcoin can not be compared with litecoin. I think litcoin, BCH all these hybrid version of bitcoin lost their cause of existence and there isn't much demand of them in the market any more. There are several other blockchain that has real usecase and got massive community and investors.

Of course. No one said LTC would ourperform BTC in the long run. The "King" simply can't be beat. Without Bitcoin, Litecoin nor any of the other cryptocurrencies we know and love today would exist. Despite the declining popularity of LTC, I think it's a great alternative for those looking to save on fees and reduce wait times. Litecoin is much more decentralized than Ethereum and its competitors. It's very undervalued, especially when it has a supply of 84m units. With subsequent halving events, LTC should've been in the "four figures" by now.

At least, it's doing the job it's supposed to. As long as it stays decentralized, there should be nothing to worry about. Hopefully, it will rise among the top 5 ranks in market cap soon. Who knows if LTC lives alongside BTC for generations?

Indeed. Litecoin is still standing strong despite other coins taking the spotlight. Price-wise, it's not performing well. But the core blockchain network remains useful for day-to-day payments. Compared to BTC and ETH, Litecoin is faster and cheaper to use. I like the fact that market prices are relatively stable. This allows us to use it more as digital cash than a store of value. Inflation is a stablecoin that is artificially made due to some economic benefits. Don't want to talk about it in detail here but inflation in fiat is not always bad at least for a country's economy You are right that due to inflation we lose value. Still people wants to use stablecoin because stability is needed in a currency to conduct everyday transactions. If the currency value only rise then no one wants to sell it, which will create a liquidity crisis in the economy and if it loses its value quickly, then no one wants to keep that currency in their pocket.

L2 projects are usually centralized. What's the point of having low fees and faster settlement times if the network is in the hands of a few players? Besides, L2 requires you to pay an on-chain fee for closing/opening channels. Increasing the block size (on-chain scaling) would be the only way to go. Litecoin may have a 1mb block size, but it can handle far more transactions than Bitcoin because of the reduced block time.

I think it has a place in crypto land, especially when it's one of the few cryptocurrencies out there with decentralization in mind. The constant block reward halvings should make LTC scarcer (and hopefully more valuable) over time (there's a max supply of 84m coins). As long as LTC remains useful, nothing else matters. Well, that maneuver he did seems to have a significant impact to Litecoin. While the project is now on the hands of the community, if it's about the progress of it, it's visible that there's not that much happening on it. That's true. Litecoin lacks marketing compared to the rest of the pack. I think that's a good thing because it forces the project to focus on utility, instead of hype. The cryptocurrency goes up in price at a slow and steady rate. With relatively-stable market prices, LTC could be the crypto of choice for those looking into a reliable store of value that's truly-decentralized. "Wall Street" already joined the revolution with the Bitcoin spot ETFs, so there's a high chance Litecoin will get its own ETF in the future.

I think with its stability and popularity in the market, it doesn't really need to get marketed. The main dev of it have left the project long time ago and that's why there's no actual guy that's moving this silver bitcoin for the marketing purposes. I'm just so disappointed with LTC all over these years that I've treated it as one of my best investment but didn't delivered me the best gains on my portfolio and that's why this time, I am only using it for transfers and not anymore as an investment. Well, everyone has their own opinion when it comes to different coins mostly bitcoin, it's obvious most people intend to separate bitcoin when listing other crypto. Bitcoin and litecoin can't be compared and there's no point comparing different coins having different market cap and price. That's the truth, Litecoin has been stagnant for so long and not to the point that it is desirable as an investment. Not today anymore but it's still a good one if you're going to transfer because it is still a quick and cheap crypto in transactions.

Funny thing is that nearly every crypto exchange has an LTC trading pair. That's a good sign of how healthy the Litecoin market is. No one may be talking about LTC's upcoming halving event or its limited supply now, but that might change in the future as crypto/Blockchain tech goes deep into the mainstream. The approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs were the first step towards exposure/publicity of the whole industry. If things keep progressing, it's likely LTC will experience a new ATH in market prices.

The sky is the limit to how far Litecoin will go. At least, it's a far more decentralized alternative than Ethereum or Solana. As long as there's a community backing the project every step of the way, there should be nothing to worry about.

I hope so. Litecoin is certainly one of the best Blockchains around for quick and cheap transfers. It "mimics" Bitcoin with a limited supply of 84m units (4x as much). One day we'll see the media hyping LTC's block reward halving events like they do with BTC. With enough attention, Litecoin can get its own spot ETFs. I'd take advantage of this "hidden gem" before "Wall Street" gets its hands into it. Hopefully it will remain a cost-effective and high-performing cryptocurrency for generations.

That depends, I have memory, or use excel, when being paid I prefer LTC. I get it at the price say 90 as for today. If it reaches 95 I sell it for local currency.

One would hope "Wall Street" doesn't get its "dirty hands" into Litecoin by filling applications for spot ETFs. Institutionalization of crypto completely goes against what Satoshi envisioned in the first place. The whole point/idea of crypto is to eliminate the middlemen (banks, governments, companies, etc). Not integrate them into the system.

Banks' failures in the past caused us great economic struggle. Do we want this for crypto? I guess so, especially when most people don't care about decentralization. All they want is to fill their pockets with money, even if that means giving away their freedom/liberty and self-sovereignity. Litecoin stands by Bitcoin's original values. While prices aren't "pumping" like other coins, it's a great way to send/receive payments in a decentralized manner without "breaking the bank". At current market prices, I'd say LTC is relatively stable. Hopefully, it will last for generations.

I expect some resistance in this area, because in 2023 LTC traded a lot of time in the range around $90-100 with many small local tops in the $100-105 area. There could be some selling from those who have bought at these times and are still disappointed with LTC's performance. However, once the $115 top of the pre-halving rally is surpassed, the way to the upside looks quite clear. All previous highs are from 2021 or very early 2022, so there shouldn't be that many buyers from these times left. Of course, nothing is guaranteed. Do your own research and only invest what you're willing to lose

PS: Usage charts continue to look very good, with about 200.000-250.000 txes/day, which is on average more than half of Bitcoin's transaction count (about 400.000/day). A significant part may be still related to Ordinals but the big hype has waned both in BTC and LTC, even if BTC fees have decreased lately.

LTC is still undervalued considering that it went through a halving without any huge "pump" in market prices. All of the attention is on Bitcoin spot ETFs and the anticipated Bitcoin halving event. Meanwhile, Litecoin is being left behind in the dust.

I'm saddened by this, especially when LTC is much more decentralized than ETH. Perhaps even more than BTC, especially when institutional investment companies are buying all of the coins. I'm waiting for the day when Litecoin becomes "Silver to Bitcoin's Gold". Maybe it will reach $1k sometime in the future?

Litecoin can be used widely in online payments, but its performance is not showing we are in a bull run. Most of the project pumped at least 2X but litecoin just stagnated in the same area for a long time. Even if there is a comeback, it won't be that promising any more. There are so many new, promising projects out there that investors can not resist investing in a new project rather than an old one like litecoin. Anything can happens in crypto so lets see what we can get litecoin in the future.

Thanks for this, it's interesting that according to the graph LTC payments seem to be even growing strongly this year, I knew already LTC was first in this list because the Litecoin Foundation showed that number in their yearly report for 2023, but I had expected a flatter or stagnating growth.

In general, I think Litecoin supporters (and other supporters of "classic" altcoins like XMR or NMC) should be much bolder in general. Perhaps some are timid about their investment because it is an "old coin" or "outdated" related to newer shiny PoS "Ethereum killers".

But think again: Most of the high-ranked PoS altcoins, including Ethereum, are based on a concept from the year 1999 (Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance). So can you blame LTC and Co. to use an algorithm, the Nakamoto Consensus, which is 9 years newer and there's consensus that it's more objective and less vulnerable to attacks (as it doesn't require Weak Subjectivity like PoS does)?

(BTW: today the first time I had a transaction stuck for more than some minutes with 2 sat/vbyte. Good or bad sign? In addition to some Ordinals stuff, there was however also a sequence of unusually long blocks.)

Couldn't agree more with you, mate. LTC is and will always be better than BCH. Nobody wants a direct fork/clone of Bitcoin pretending to be the original cryptocurrency. People want something different that focuses on real use cases than anything else. Despite the fact that LTC is similar to BTC, it has a few things that makes it special. The slightly-higher supply of 84m units, a different PoW algorithm, a smaller block time, and the Mimblewimble privacy feature makes LTC a good BTC alternative. On the plus side, it isn't "owned" by institutional investment companies (BlackRock, MicroStrategy) nor governments.

If people knew LTC's potential, it would've reached a new ATH by now. At least, prices are relatively-stable. With most crypto exchanges supporting LTC, nothing can go wrong. Maybe it's a "hidden gem" waiting to blossom someday?

Litecoin can be very old coin but it's still promising coin in the market, and still it's undervalued coin if you will comparing other projects, as par as less transaction fees it's very popular specially in online payment and personally i am using this coin to purchase many products from online marketplace. I check the litecoin subreddit occasionally and it seems there is also a litecoin ETF on the way which is about to get approved by the SEC. So, these are probably the last moments before you can acquire them cheap litoshis. It is already showing signs of a breakout btw. Recently ltc went as high as $105. Sooner or later it will meet its ATH again but ltc's main problem is that there are too many shitcoins competing with it.

For now. But things could change in the future if miners and node operators defect to companies' own interests. What's stopping BlackRock and other giants from running their own nodes and miners? If they accumulate a large portion of the circulating supply, self-custody of BTC would be hard to achieve in the long run. We should empower people to take control of their own keys/seeds instead of leaving their coins at a CEX or custodial wallets.

I'd say Litecoin is a better option than Bitcoin right now because it isn't mass-accumulated by institutions yet. There are no plans for a spot LTC ETF right now (AFAIK). The cryptocurrency isn't as hyped as BTC is, anyways. I'd prefer LTC to remain a lesser-known cryptocurrency even if that means lower market prices in the long run. It's not always about money, is it?

This topic was recently discussed in the Bitcoin section. I see a minimal danger for such a "conspiracy" to work if Bitcoin is really losing the "idealistic" part of the user base completely, but I don't think this will happen, at least not soon. But as long as we have vocal voices upholding the cypherpunk ethos, the markets will follow the "honest" chain/protocol, because this particular ethos is too much associated with Bitcoin's main characteristics (censorship resistance etc.) which can be described, from a business perspective, as USPs (unique selling propositions).

Hypothetical case: if <some business> tries to convince miners that Bitcoin should change to PoS and create a way to block funds (just like ERC-20 tokens), would the miners agree? I think not, because all such a change would do is to convert Bitcoin in a poor man's Ethereum without even a Turing-complete smart contract language, which can be censored at any time. Why should this coin then have any value? Miners will understand this case.

I however agree that we should aim for a healthy ecosystem of several decentralized, non-premined, uncensorable chains in the case anything goes wrong with BTC. And Litecoin is probably one of those chains all those interested in censorship resistance and similar stuff should also be interested to protect, even if its origins were a little bit shady (instamine allegations due to Charlie Lee's early GPU mining). XMR, Doge, maybe also Dash, RVN or Flux, and perhaps also some much weaker non-premined chains but with unique characteristics like NMC and Signum are other chains I would mention here.

No, here I completely disagree, that won't happen. This would drive the BTC price into insane regions, so they would stop accumulating eventually, and additionally this would incentive old whales to sell, leading to other coins being distributed. Also there could be compliance problems, BlackRock et al. are heavily regulated.

I also disagree that LTC should remain "unknown". The more well-known a chain is, the more secure it is (censorship resistance, ecosystem ...).

We may not have to give a listening hears to some of the people that were busy saying that litecoin has been underrated, it may not perform well as expected in recent times, but that doesn't justify the saying that this same coin is being undervalued, because it has also been once upon a time among the most performing cryptocurrencies and still awaits for its own turn in making such a wonderful and nice performance again, its network transaction fee is very cheap and affordable and nothing changed concerning this.

Yes, I seen litecoin between $101.80 - $109.38 in the last 24 hours and a range of $85.23 - $108.96 over the weekend. I think Litecoin will take a lot more time to increase in value, especially since Litecoin is far from its past highs. Litecoin is pumping during Bitcoin's naturally bullish times. If the alt coins start to rally after the bitcoin halving then the litecoin will start pumping but I don't think they will touch their past highs when the bull run starts at the end of the year. It may take some time but I believe Litecoin will come back to its previous form very soon.

Well how do you compile your data, litecoin climbs when bitcoin falls, at least since some time after halvening.
What litecoin lacks is marketing, some stepping out of the grassroots push which should come from their management @litecoinfoundation.
The community of litecoin should open up and write eBay, Stripe and Klarna countless emails demanding an inclusion of that particular coin.
The P2P role fits like a glove.

$115 is the real milestone, until there I expect more volatility, with rises and pullbacks. But then it could rise quite fast if we take into account what happened in past cycles.

The interesting thing here to observe is the behavior of the LTC/BTC price compared to LTC/USD. LTC/BTC was still decreasing when LTC/USD already rose sharply. This was the "trickle down" effect from Bitcoin down to most altcoins in most of the bull market. But then suddenly LTC/BTC takes off, leading to a much steeper increase in LTC/USD too. This spike happened in April/May 2021, which was a major "alt season".

LTC could be now in a situation like in January 2021: price is slowly rising, but still not in comparison with BTC. But in 2-3 months a similar spike could happen.

Of course not. I've never stated Bitcoin was a PoS coin. What I've meant is that big companies can acquire a large portion of the network's hashrate by establishing mining farms. They'll be limited to amount of money they can spend on ASIC hardware, though. As long neither institutions nor governments are able to influence miners' decisions on the Blockchain, there should be nothing to worry about.

PoW coins by far, are the most decentralized and censorship-resistant ones on the industry. You can see why "shitcoins" like ETH and SOL have been compromised by wealthy people (corporations. whales, exchanges, etc). That's why they'll eventually die (or become easier to regulate by the government) in the long run. With LTC now experiencing increased interest due to the spot ETF hype, we can expect market prices to go all the way to the moon. The comeback is inevitable. Hopefully, it will stay decentralized and censorship-resistant for generations.
