It's not a surprise because Dortmund is a strong team and they are even a team that has a strong mentality on the UCL stage, unlike Newcastle so I think Newcastle's defeat is not surprising.
Newcatle is indeed in good form but it was seen in the match that the strengths of the two teams were quite even and Dortmund were lucky to score a goal.

Manchester City has achieved three wins in three games in their Champions League group. While Man City might not be at their best in Premier League matches, they seem well-prepared and organized in the Champions League matches. The team needs to capitalize on their opportunities more. With continued improvement, they could score even more goals in the second half of the season.
