I heard some Manchester United fans towards the end of last season saying that if Michael Carrick had started the league season with them, they would have won the league or they would have been up there competing for it,

But with a bad start like this, I do not think that what will happen cause they might find them self fighting to qualify for a place in europe, instead of the league title, if they do not improve more than what I saw today.

In fact, saying I am disappointed at the outcome of this match for the Manchester United is just an understatement as I feel worse about them despite not being their supporter or fan. I expected they will perform more than this as this is an absolute disgrace to me to start the season with. With Carrick, I am expecting a better start and a better overall performance in this season but from what I am seeing, I am beginning to worry about what this translates to in real terms and hope we don’t see the worst of it. Let me also use this medium to congratulate the two African players who scored in the match for Hull City, first person was Semi Ajayi who have appeared in the super eagle team too and the next person to hail was Mendy, Nobel Wendy who’s goal also made the opponent in people of Manchester United to fall.

Crystal Palace lost chances that could have given them goals and earned them some important point to start the season. Nketiah missed what could have being the very first goal scoring opportunity in the game and for Crystal Palace, in a well positioned spot within the goalkeeper’s box and somehow, was able to allow Pickford to make his first save, sending the ball to the post. Mateta also had his chance and sent it to the post.

Everton on the other hand were able to take their chances clinically. Dewsbury-Hall had a beautifully taken shot in the goal and at the side of the net while, Barry scored from a header that the goalkeeper had no hope of saving.

The newly promoted teams Hull City and Ipswich Town both started the Premier League with wins.
Hull City made a fantastic start to the season by beating Manchester United 2–0 at home.
It was a shocking defeat for Manchester United. Despite dominating the match, they couldn't find a goal and ended up losing their opening game of the season.

Ipswich Town also made a good start by beating Sunderland 2–1 at home.

The newly promoted sides have stared well, only Coventry City lost to Arsenal yesterday; Hull City won against Manchester United, and Ipswich Town won against Sunderland.

I think they have started well, they have learned from some mistakes other promoted teams usually make when the season starts, losing matches at the beginning of the season will discourage them and will make them look average which can lead them to losing so many points; but starting with wins against stronger teams can be a boost to their confidence to be able to accumulate some points before the season gets tough.

And people was like they are likely to go back to relegation, and had it been Coventry City faced a lesser team than Arsenal, I believe they could have won the game, but I still believe those teams no one of them is going back this season, and even if anyone of them is going back it's probably no Coventry City, as I have had this strong belief that those guys will bounce back, maybe from their next game, Arsenal for now seem to be the most formidable team in the English premier League this time, so I'm not gonna blame Coventry City for that lost.

This defeat to Hull City on the opening day of the season is a big lesson to Micheal Carrick and the rest of his Manchester United squad, because it shows that they are not yet ready to compete for the English premier league title.

Where I watched the game yesterday in a viewing center, most of their fans where happy that Manchester United is losing, so that they will know that they don't have a good team, and will want to dive into the market and act fast before the close of the transfer window, so even though it seems crazy, the bottom line is that Manchester United is not ready or good enough to compete for the English premier league title, unless their is a massive improvement from the entire team, and how they play.

Hull city understood that they only need the 3 points while Manchester United was busy playing styles. This has to stop as soon as possible if Michael Carrick wants to remain the head coach. Hull city broke a club long history, ever since the beginning of Manchester United, they have never loss to a newly promoted team on match day 1. Manchester United played 20 shots with 6 on target and they also played 6 corners in that game while Hull city played only 8 shots with 4 on target and one corner in a game they had 28% possession against Manchester United's 72.

This game just reminded me of their last season first game against Arsenal, they played a better football and still lost. I think they used to be too relaxed in the beginning of the season which Michael Carrick was supposed to have noticed and fixed before now. Anyways, let's see if they can learn from their mistakes.

Yeah. Just the first match, and Man United already lost. Even though a lot of people predicted Man United would be one of the contenders for the trophy this season under Carrick since he managed to boost them last season. 

But this loss for Man United in this game happened because Hull City is also on fire. They just got promoted to the Premier League and are playing at home, so of course they really want to show that they belong in the EPL. But honestly, from United's perspective, this result is still disappointing because they should have done better, and this needs to be a point of evaluation for Carrick for the upcoming matches, especially he needs to review so that Man United has a clear game plan and Carrick shouldn't give the squad absolute freedom because that was the problem in this game.

Michael Carrick finished last season to praise, with many thinking he did a good job.
Now they've started the season with a loss to a team that seemed weak, and another loss could completely break United's hopes for the season.
A good start to the season is always important. They're playing Ipswich this week and they absolutely need to win; if they lose to another weaker team, I don't know what will happen.

The most plausible argument one could make regarding the outcome of Matchday 1 between Hull and Manchester United is the precedent set in 2012. On Matchday 1 of the 2012–2013 season, Manchester United lost by one goal to Everton but went on to win the league that season. They seem to have forgotten that in 2025, they also lost on Matchday 1 against Arsenal but failed to lift the trophy that year as well.

While Amorim played with a three-back system, Carrick reverted to the standard four-back formation (4-2-3-1). Carrick is just the head coach, not the manager. He has his limitations—yes, he does.

they were very unlucky in the first match. they failed to capitalize on 21 attacks. Man Utd's weakest link is their defensive line. i really don't understand the point of persisting with names like Maguire, Shaw and so on.
apart from that, their attackers and midfield unit are actually quite good. it's way too early to generalize the bad luck of the first match to the whole season. i think they'll pull themselves together in the upcoming matches.

The hopes of Manchester United fans are like a pipe dream. I’d like to see how the fans react when Manchester United is humiliated by a newly promoted team. Do they still think Carrick will win the Premier League this season? As for me, I don’t think Manchester United will win the Premier League. Just look at how poorly Manchester United played against Hull City. The players couldn’t even score a goal against Hull City, a newly promoted team.

Maybe Maguire thought his opponent wasn’t dangerous. LOL. A defender for such an amazing price embarrassing the whole team. Didn't we all complain about Manchester United that there is something wrong with the club, I guess we ignored it but I'm not surprised by what I'm seeing with their performance. In the opening match, just 17 minutes to the game Hulk city had their first goal even, it shows that their defense was very weak, they weren't doing the right thing to avoid incoming goals they later conceded at the rest of the time during the match.

You know what's even interesting about Hull city, they never had any interesting features during the world cup, I don't know why but they look like a below average team. I don't think Manchester United did well to analyze the match further to check if the team was better. For a team that is going to play in the Champions League, I'm not sure they are going to survive to be honest with you except if they improved their defense.

This is a very disappointing result from Manchester United, I don't think anyone expected this result in their first game. I agree with you, United defense was very weak, although no Matthijs de Ligt or Martinez, maybe that's why they were weak in defense. Apart from United defense, I was not happy with the attack as well,  I expected United to atleast score a goal, but they couldn't convert their chances.

Hulk city surprised me, and we all know they are not suppose to be in premier league, but luckily they are here. I don't know if Hull city will compete against other top teams like they did, or the United defense was just too open for their first match. I think we should not underrate any of these newly promoted sides, because they look competitive. United can still sign atleast 2 more defenders, one LB and a CB to strengthen the defense, and they must sharpen or we might see a worse result.

There's difference between money and talent. Chelsea spent more than what Tottenham spend in this transfer market but they barely have a result to show for it.

But this shouldn't be surprising. Brentford looks more decent and settled compared to Tottenham at the moment and there's no way Tottenham was going to beat Brentford away from home considering their current form. Although Tottenham showed little in the game but still early to make assumptions. If they continue this way after playing like five or more games, then it's over for them.

It's disappointing to see them start this way after escaping relegation last season.

The fault came from Micheal Carrick no doubt, like why would he pair the two new signed players, Santos and co, he could have pair them with one old player, pair them both will give Santos a heavy load to do, and what was that Harry did? Marking his own man that led to the first goal, like Michael Carrick should better put things in order, and he really needs a left back, and balde is set to leave Barcelona, so I think this is their time to get a left back, because those things are not really effective in that team.
