I'm looking at the map and I can see Mariupol, Melitopol and other coastal cities occupied by Russia. As to Bakhmut, it was supposed to become a symbol of bravery and resistance of the Ukrainian military, something like Ukrainian Sparta. 1. US intelligence provided detailed info on when, where and how Russia was going to attack.
2. AFU had been trained by NATO instructors for 8 years
3. Lots of arms provided by the West, including ATMs, drones, fighter jets etc etc

5. Starlink internet
6. Boatloads of money to pay the AFU and to support the budget
