At the start of Asia Cup 2023, India were the underdogs. Pakistan and Sri Lanka were favorites to play against each other in the finals. Now, they would be playing against each other to get into the finals. Yesterday again I saw a totally different Indian team playing against the Srilanka side.

The Indian batters struggled to score runs on a pitch that had uneven bounce and supported spinners. Srilankan spinner Welalage was the reason the Indian middle order got wiped out in just a couple of overs. Only a handful of Indian batters were able to make runs and gave a target of only 213 runs to the Srilanka batter to chase. 213 runs is not a big score considering it was a 50-over match.

To my surprise and several cricket fans across the globe, this Indian team was able to defend it. There were a couple of misfields but the Indian fielders but the bowling was again outstanding. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets, Bhumrah took 2 & Jadeja took 2 wickets. What was even more surprising was that Srilanka lost this match by a good margin of 41 runs on their home ground. They were undefeated in their last 13 ODI matches which got broken yesterday.

Bumrah was amazing but he needs to careful with his recovery, he's too valuable. Miyan also looks good, if Pandaya keeps bowling like that then it's a big plus for India. Shardul doing well so far but the biggest talking point is Kuldeep, he's on a different level when he's high on confidence.

What this means is that there is no room for Mohammad Shami in the squad. If I had to make a choice between Siraj and Shami, then I would rather go for the latter, as he has more control and consistency. But with two pace-bowling allrounders in the squad (Pandya and Shardul), only two full-time pacers are needed and that means that Shami will be kept out. And in the spin department, Kuldeep is cementing his place in the XI, which means no additional slots are available apart from that of the allrounder (Jadeja). So obviously no chance for Chahal and Axar.

This combination sounds good. But then, Bumrah needs to be fit. In case Bumrah gets injured, then the equilibrium will get disrupted. I guess in that case the seam combination would be Siraj+Shami+Hardik+Thakur. Anywaym the team balance looks good, with the presence of so many allrounders. Seam-bowling allrounders were always a rarity in Indian cricket, but now there are two of them - Hardik and Shardul. And then Venkatesh Iyer is waiting in the sidelines. For spin-bowling allrounders there was never any scarcity.

After a long wait, India once again qualified for the finals of the Asia Cup. In the previous few seasons only Sri Lanka and Pakistan had qualified for the Asia Cup final but this season India became the first ever to qualify for the Asia Cup final. SL failed miserably in the last match against India. The target was achievable, but kudos to Indian spinners.  The match between Pakistan and SL will be interesting to watch. SL spin bowling will cause problems for the Pakistani batters, Babar Azam will be the key wicket. Fakhar is out of form, and the middle order is not performing up to the mark. Plus, there will be forced changes in the Pakistan bowling lineup. It will be interesting to see how Pakistan batters handle Lankan spinners and how Lankan batters perform against Pakistan bowling. I will give Pakistan a bit of an edge in this contest over SL.

You are correct the tournament now depends on who wins between Pakistan and Srilanka. Absolutely certain that Pakistan won't feel comfortable when they play with Srilanka. Srilanka knows that they have good spinners to tackle Pakistan batters. Pakistan knows they do not have excellent spinners to tackle the spinning pitch of Colombo. The way Pakistan batter played against the Indian spin attack has to be the tipping point for the management to reassess the current strategy. Overall they need to reorganise themselves to win the game tomorrow.

After watching them play against the Indian spin attack I felt Pakistani batters are vulnerable to spin bowling. They seem to not understand the pitch, I mean the team management. Why did Pakistan after winning the toss opt to bowl first? When they knew rain was certain. It could be that they became overconfident after the first match. Then we have the Captain who thought it would be safe to have a defensive fielding. Before the ICC World Cup, it is now evident Pakistan and Sri Lanka have to rethink their strategy for the upcoming biggest event.

India was able to defend a total of 214, which means they are the favorite to win the cup, never expected to defend a total like that but then it is not the spinners that changed the match, fast bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the opening spell and then later on Hardik Pandya bowled a wonderful spell when Sri Lanka was building a partnership. The only disappointment was Axar Patel, if it was Ashwin in his place, he would have made a difference.

I imagine this is a particularly good time for India as their batting and bowling can be said to be incredibly dangerous. The match against Sri Lanka was a puzzle for everyone and i took a personal gamble with my friends in this match where i won. You see India batting side is very good but they also have the best spin bowlers. I know that everyone is so sure in this Asia Cup that any team of India and Pakistan can win this Asia Cup but only the final match is waiting. Also personally i bet india that they can win asia cup.
