So a better position in the domestic league cannot determine whether a club will also perform well in prestigious competitions. Roma is an experienced club in the European League for many years. I think Roma still deserves to be a favorite regardless of their opponents also appearing impressive in all competitions. Just like you rightly said, Bayer Leverkusen on paper have is easily the favorite team to win their UEFA Europa League semi final tie against AS Roma because of their superior performance in all competitions this season but because of how impressive the Italian club have been since Daniele De Rossi took over the managerial position at the club, I don think it'll be good idea not to give the the German team a chance of pulling a surprise in the two legged tie. Roma since their current manager took over have been exceptionally impressive which is why they were able to eliminate a big club like AC Milan from the UEFA Europa League competition  so against Bayer Leverkusen, I think the Roma has chance of reaching the final

Leverkusen are stronger than Roma and create more impression in this season than Roma. They also have better preparation for the first semi final match because they don't have to spend their best resources for their match in Bundesliga. Roma oppositely had to use their best players for Serie A match with Napoli and they still need to fight in Serie A for a fourth or fifth position. Roma's current position means they still have risk to lose a fifth position to Atalanta and Lazio so they will need to keep their eyes on two competitions, Europa League and Serie A.

Leverkusen will have big advantage against Roma in both two semi final matches because the schedule of Roma is very terrible. They have two matches with Napoli and Juventus before two semi finals with Leverkusen.
