This new format of the champions league has once proven that England is the king of football in Europe. It remains the most competitive. Assuming that this season isn't a bad season for Pep Guardiola, we would have seen all England teams in the top 8 of the champions league.
But currently, England has 3 clubs in the top 8 of the league. Even Aston Villa that newly qualified for Champions league made it to the top 8.

Todays game, Manchester City was really incredible in the way they perform. There come back and how they won in the end. I always knew they wont make the mistake of not qualifying for the next round.

Liverpool didn't complete the group stage flawlessly. I expected this result, I told you. Liverpool had less chances when they rotated, PSV played better and won the game despite going behind twice. In the last minutes Liverpool's young player got a red card. It must have been a big lesson for him to get a chance in the Champions League and get a red card in only 6 minutes. Amara Nallo made a very rough move. Being a professional is one thing.

Though I didn't watch the match, cause I was watching other matches at intervals, I think the coach was wise to have rotated his squad because he team has already qualified a long ago, so I think it was necessary. Although, I didn't think they would have lost to PSV, worse case scenario would have been a draw but it is what it is, that's football for you.

Looks like Man City is about to secure their place in the play-off phase. They're wining 3-1 against Club Brugge with seconds to go.
As far as things are in the other games, Club Brugge will also make it, as they're on 24th place (last place of the play-off zone), so not much harm there.
No major surprises in all the other games so far.

I think it's safe to say that the new format is a success.

As expected that Man City would take the win,they struggled in the first half but this was honestly a must win for them. I even knew on halftime they were gonna turn this around and ended up winning easily. But its still worrying that Man City must struggle against every opponent weak or strong

I'm aware football is a game of luck, today's game for Man City wasn't about being lucky, the win was deserved. I never doubted Man City possibility of winning the game, even when Brugge took lead in the first half, my predictions remain because this is truly a difficult position for City and they cannot afford to lose the opportunity. Lucky enough Brugge and Man City qualifies for the next chapter.

Liverpool and Milan are the only big teams that failed to secure points, not even a draw. Barcelona vs Atalanta was a draw, if Atalanta succeeded in wining they should have climbed among the top eight who gets the game of 16 qualification at ease.

Watched Barcelona vs Atalanta  tonight but the game wasn’t giving the vibe so I switched to Manchester city at the other halve, ma city game wasn’t disappointing as it later ended well and now they qualify to the next round, all thanks to the home goal that put them ahead, I think that motivated a little to secure the game with one more goal.. Barcelona on the other hand was lucky Atalanta had an offside goal, the game could have been totally different with Atalanta leading but it’s draw anyways and even if Atlanta won It wouldn’t still change their Round of 16 qualification status.. same goes to Atalanta winning I don’t think it will get them to the round of 16 either.

Respect to the Premier League teams because the representative from this league has been sent 3 teams who qualified to round of 16 or finish at top 8 besides Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa today we have seen Manchester City won from Club Brugge which this result makes them can advances to the playoff stages indeed this is not satisfied because Manchester City only finish at 22th place but at least they still advances to the next round and so far Premier League teams has been showing their domination by sent 4 teams total to knockout stages

I don't think there are any major surprises. Some of the favourites like Real Madrid or Man City ended up much lower than everyone expected but they're still in the game.
None of the major teams got eliminated, although I expected a bit more from Stuttgart or Leipzig.
We have a few big clubs in the unseeded play-offs zone, so things could get interesting.

Match day 8/8 has ended, Manchester City has successfully qualified for the play-off round. By dominating the game completely, especially in the first half, they actually conceded first because they focused on attacking. However in the second half there was a change so that the situation turned around, Haaland role was very invisible, not getting much ball supply. Even though Brugge lost, at least they managed to occupy 24th position and gave themselves a chance in the play-off round.

Real Madrid also won over Brest and in this match Mbappe did not score a goal even though he had many opportunities. Rodrygo appeared on fire from match to match, Vinicius absence did not make Madrid's attack dull and so far Rodrygo presence has continued to be a balancer.

Now the real question is, did you put your money where you mouth is?? If you're a better then you would have maximised profit by still staking Manchester City to win even after a goal down. Yeah, even I thought Manchester City would score or even win the match, but I wasn't of it because of their on and off form. Although I staked the game over 2.5, so when Kovacic made it 1 - 1 minutes after the break, I knew that option would enter and I was waiting for others too.

But I don't think this makes them the king at all. At first I would think that it's about titles and maybe final participation. If an English team wins the Champions League or two of them make it into the finals, then that is a good sign that England is currently on top of things, but I don't see that yet. Making it into the top 8 is a first important step, but it doesn't crown anybody to become king... Nobody will talk about England in half a year from now when they don't win the Champions League as nobody cares how many teams made it into the top 8 if there is no title eventually.

It's good to start with for them and it slightly increases the chance for an English team to make it very far, but this hasn't won them any title just yet. It is still a long way to go. And when you see how close it was from 8th to all the teams after that, it can't be said that England dominates or anything. There has also been some luck in the drawings as you can't argue that all of the teams got equally strong opponents. However, since Aston Villa was able to beat Bayern Munich, that was quite big, but I doubt that Aston Villa would be able to beat Bayern Munich repeatedly.

Manchester City lost their last Championship game to Paris Saint German last week, and today again it seems they are also losing again to "Club Brugge" with 1 goal to nil after it's first half, despite having the most ball possession, but lacking shots on target. Because if Manchester City losses this game, it will literally be a big blow to Pep Guardiola. Hence, he needs to try as much to to lose this game as second half begins shortly. Likewise with Liverpool who is currently been beaten by PSV Eindhoven with 3 goals to 2.

Manchester City was able to make a quick recovery towards the early part of the second half and the score is now 2:1 currently and from the look of things, we should be expecting more goals from Manchester City because Club Brugge has annoyed them by winning the first half and now they are paying for the damages in the second half. We should not be too fast to judge a match when it hasn't ended yet as anything is possible in football. Look at how everyone was saying hateful words against Manchester City just because they lost the first half but now the result is in their favor.

For PSV Eindhoven and Liverpool, they can end in a draw because PSV is a strong team in the Netherlands Eredivisie and since they are leading Liverpool by 3:2, it may be difficult for Liverpool to score many goals so they can only succeed in getting a draw but i don't think they will lose to PSV.

Finally, Manchester City has the possibility to advance to the next round; they will face other clubs in the playoffs, and I am confident they will do everything necessary to advance to the round of 16th in the competition. Guadiola believes they will lose the game despite leading with only one girl in the first half. I honestly believe that Guadiola will try everything possible to achieve the three points since they are a large club, and they won't like to disgrace the fans and be eliminated in the competition.

Liverpool has lost their first Champions League game this season, and because they are not important players in the team, they have not been called. It is likely that PSG will win or draw against Liverpool. Let's see how the playoff stages goes and how the games end. since I believe the playoff will be stronger than round 16 since they have challenging clubs in the playoff and can likely face each other and eliminate one to advance to the next round.

Inter have done a great job by managing to be the only Italian club making it to the round of 16 and I have to say they deserve it as well.  Even though they should have been in second or third by now, at least they are equal on points with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona.

Please don't tell me you classify the performance by Man City as incredible because what they did back there was a mix of desperation and luck and nothing about incredibility.
If anything, it was even Club Brugge that performed well because they were able to hold their own even when they lost the lead. If it had been any other club that conceded that goal, I think Man City would have been able to get more goals but we saw them defending hard and the win margin was just two goals.

 Man City would face a very difficult side in Arsenal when they travel to the Emirates on Sunday and with this way they played against Club Brugge won't be tolerated by the Gunners.

The least they could have finished is 2nd so there was no need to risk the players. PSV is a scoring team so when they get an opportunity like this, they'll score. Liverpool was also lucky Barcelona couldn't win so they maintained their first position.

Yeah, PSV is a high scoring team that scores at the same time allows goals to come in, Liverpool really needed that rotation to rest players and keep them fresh for the league games ahead since they have already qualified in the Champions League already. Their worse case scenario would have been second position on the table. But it's all good, both them and Barcelona lost points but they are still in their position, I think they will be satisfied with that.

No doubts England does plays very good football but they don't have the monopoly of good football that is why Spain still gets to win th most prestigious champions league in the whole of Europe too often than England has. For me I wouldn't make a conclusion on them based on this qualification because they could still be knocked out but at that stage a d then we will be back to looking for a solid representation,  but then England had really don well in this champions league and has proven beyond doubts how resilient and competitively firm they are across Europe but before they relax they should keep an eye on Spain as those guys are no jokes.

That first half was terrible: no energy, no creativity, and a makeshift right-back sliced open by Club Brugge. It felt like City had forgotten they were European champions. You know something is wrong when you are depending on Kovacic for a spark. Then Savinho arrives at halftime and there is an instant pulse. That's on Guardiola; he misdirected then hurried to correct it

Now, sure, they ended up winning, but a sloppy 3-1 over Brugge isn't going to cut it against the major hitters. Bayern or Madrid are going to break them if they fail to tighten. It doesn't matter how many trophies you have, if you play like that in the first half, the best teams will beat you. Without De Bruyne, City's midfield isn't getting the killer pass, and without service, Haaland is effectively on his own up front. Right now, they live on the rep from last season
