For me, it is easier to stop when I win. When I win, I usually stop immediately and save the profits I get from the win. Although sometimes there is a desire to continue playing and want to double the win, this is easier to control so that it can be managed. But it is very difficult for me to stop when I lose. Because every time I experience a loss, I am always motivated to return the loss so that it does not become a loss, more like revenge. Quiting gambling when winning is a very hard task for most gamblers and that's also applicable when they're losing. When a gambler is winning, there's this inner belief that strongly tells him to continue gambling because it'll not be easy to get such moment again and when most gamblers are losing, they do have this mindset that they'll bounce back and win huge later which why why for gambler to be successful, he must very disciplined in other not to allow his greedy for more winnings or his resistance to accept the bad days he losses to determine how he makes vital decisions.

I think everything depends on how discipline are you with gambling and smart you are with gambling. The smart ones knows that you can't win continuesly in gambling, there will come a time when you will win like you are the special person in gambling and a time that will come when you will look as if you are the worst person that ever gamble in the world. If you win a game back to back and you noticed you have started losing like two times in row, it's a signal to quit and similarly when you notice the same thing in loss.

When in gambling, my focus is always how to maximize my initial bankroll and reduce anything that will bring loss, so I don't think anyone need to be told when to exit the gambling, only a greedy person will continue to play after winning a lot and doesn't read the warnings and only a careless gambler will continue to play when there is signs that the loss is high losses.

Personally, turning a hundred bucks into five hundred feels like I won the dang lottery.  Heck yeah Id cash out then and there with a big, dumb grin on my face.  That would cover a real nice date night with my girl or a bunch of rounds at the bar with my buddies and  i Im not gonna lie though, it would be real tempting to keep playing and chase more of that sweet winning feeling.  It is smart to quit while Im ahead and feel good about scoring such a major come-up.

An interesting topic and a similar topic has already been posted here somewhere. I think this is a very individual process, but I’ll tell you about myself. I have a lot more to carry on when I lose money than when I win. Following your example, I will say that when I have 10 dollars left out of 100, it will be much more difficult to stop and save them than when there are 500 left after 100. When I win, I can pause, withdraw some of the money and calmly continue. When I lose, everything happens the other way around

I find quitting when losing extremely easy, after all I understand the nature of gambling and probabilities, so I know that if keep gambling during this session chances are that I will keep losing money, so I never had any problems when quitting under those circumstances, however quitting when you are ahead is way more difficult, as at the time you are feeling great and the last thing you want to do is for that feeling to go away, making you to gamble for a period of time longer than what you expected, and which it may allow a casino to recover some of the most it has lost so far to you.

If my bankroll is $100 and I have been able to grow it to $500, then I am going to take my profit and leave the remaining $100, and then I will start working on how I am going to grow that again. But if I'm honest, it’s easier said than done. It's much easier to stop when you're winning. Most people have a goal when they start to gamble and they have some ideas of what they'd spend the money on. When they double it, it's already enough for many people, but OP gave an example of going to $500 from $100, so that would make most people quit, or partially quit, withdrawing $400 and leaving the last $100 to check if the luck is still there and they can squeeze out more. IN my case I'd play it safe and withdraw at least $450 and leave $50 for another bet when I'm in the mood.

If you are on such condition on which you are on the winning side then it is really that actually hard if we do speak about quitting on that particular point or simply midway on your gambling session.
On the moment that you are on winning condition then pretty sure you would really be that thinking that you should really be that playing more to make more. This is where most gamblers do end up on losing those winnings all back into the casino on which they do really believe on that they could really be still able to make money or further winnings. Well for me I think it's always easier to quit when you are at a win than when you are losing because from all my experience as a gambler and I feel lots of gamblers too can relate to this, it's better than to actually have a target to reach when the winning spree starts and when that targets reach you simply quite and leave because if you don't you will definitely encounter the opposite and that time it's a lot harder to quit.

I don't quit when I'm in a profit rather I take profit, let say I have made $500 , why would I quit? But I will take $400 off the table and continue to bet with the remaining $100 ,then when I'm down $10 the funds is already finished ,I will only call it a day the moment I have lost the entire money,  because that $10 could possibly revive me into being in profit, so letting go that moment no longer make sense to me because it as much as losing the entire funds.

Idk, if I'm having fun I'd continue. But if I'm satisfied, I'll stop and have fun with that $500 in my next session. I've always said that I leave the money I win in the casino for my next session usually, rarely do I actually withdraw it. in this situation, for me, it'll be easier to quit if my bankroll is down to $10. my logic with this would be, that it is not my day and I need to have a break and I can just use the remaining balance the next time I am going to gamble. on the other hand, if my bankroll has increased from $100 to $500 my mindset would be, that it is probably my day and I would probably continue gambling and further try my luck, that being said, I don't plan on gambling all my winnings away.

You know, choices can only be hard to make if you don’t stick to your goal. If you are seeing already a huge profits on your bankroll, then there’s no reason anymore to gamble more because that will only make you prone of losing your profits and return to the casino. Don’t be too greedy when it comes to money, otherwise you will only get the reverse of it. Instead, be contented even with not so big profits, remember that gambling cannot guarantee winning at all times, you’re even lucky if you already made a good amount.

Sometimes, it’s easy to just quit when you are still winning compared to when you’re seeing your money being used up. At least, you don’t go home with empty pocket, and if you plan to gamble more, you can do it in some other time when you think you’ll be lucky again.
