Well, for me, I have my own rules or discipline, so for example, if I have a capital of $100 and at some point I am playing gambling and I notice that I have already won an amount double my initial capital or more than my capital, let's say $500 as an OP example, then I would stop from there. Why? Because I already doubled my capital, but in some cases, if I still want to enjoy playing, then I will keep the $200 safe and secure it, making sure that I will not use it to gamble again, and the remaining $300 will be the funds that I will use to gamble more, so no matter what happens to that, I will not regret it. That's it. But if, of course, I'm losing, and I notice that I only have $10 left, I will still use it or gamble it, because, as I said, whenever I play gambling, I have specific funds to use, and if I lose it or double it, that's it—nothing more, nothing less.

I know that as gamblers, everyone can relate to this question, as we have surely experienced it in real situations.

Suppose our bankroll is $100 and it has already grown to $500, would you quit or continue? Conversely, if with our bankroll, we are down to $10, would you still continue or save the remaining $10? I used specific amounts to make it easier to discuss this situation. I understand that we all gamble with different amounts based on our income, but consider this as an example. You can mention any amount you want based on your personal experience; it doesn't matter.

It's easier for people to stop gambling after losing a lot, especially after playing for years, destroying their lives and falling into addiction. In most cases, people stop playing forever only when they have lost everything and no longer have the money to continue playing. These are very small cases in which people play and even though they have the money to continue playing they manage to say: "tomorrow I'm going to stop playing forever" and tomorrow arrives and they actually stop playing and are fine with that decision. In these cases, it shows that the person had not reached the stage of becoming dependent on gambling

When people win a lot of money gambling, the tendency of most people will be to continue playing and then lose everything. This happens to people who play slots, sports betting, all card games. only people who participate in lotteries and when they hit the jackpot and become rich they immediately stop playing forever, but in most cases they spend all their money on nonsense and become poor and then go back to buying lottery tickets and never win again

Personally, I find it harder to quit when I'm winning. Greed will be constant to many of us and it takes strong self-discipline to over come it. One reason why I think quitting when you're in loss is easier, is because of financial limitations wherein you will come to a point that you no longer have an amount to gamble forcing you to quit. Unlike with when you are winning, basically you have enough margin to continue and not to mention the idea that you could bet for more because you might be lucky that time and such thing does not happen on a daily basis. Fortunately I managed to cope up with greed. I now track my win-loss data to help me be consistent with monitoring  the money I am engaging in gambling activities.

Well, for sure it is not the same to all of us. Some people will be doing anything to continue despite of loss and due to frustrations, however, the reaosn why many gamblers are in loss is because they lack control of  oneself to secure profit at least if you have the game for that day.
When greed kicks in, then this is the moment that you would really be finding yourself having that kind of situation on which you have made your small capital into big ones because of winning or simply being lucky then on that particular point you would really be thinking about having that luck all the way on that point on which having those thoughts or feelings that you could really be able to do
such thing when it comes to winning up the game even further and making those balance way more bigger on which you had already that anticipated. If you would be able to make it big then good for you
because luck is on your side on that point but majority will really be busting all of those winnings back into the casino on which this one would really be leading up into such huge regret on the moment that you will really be losing up.

I think this would certainly be an individual difference thing though... I could personally decide to not stop wagering as long as I'm winning, but others could wanna stop wagering and prefer to do the opposite when they're losing... Now that makes alot of sense to have a bankroll... That's exactly the only way to control your actions EITHERWAYS.

"It looks like I'm treading water and I'm not floating if I decide to keep wagering when I'm pulling up a huge number of lost tickets". Another big disadvantage of wagering in a losing spree is that you may be tempted to drain yourself, just to see how could recover atleast a half of what you lost already.

It will be much easier for me to exit when I'm winning and have already won something on top of my initial bankroll. Reaching $500 from $100 is a lot, I wouldn't even wait that much. If I start with $100, reach $200, and start losing, I will stop immediately because more than 50% of your initial bankroll is more than enough for you in a single gambling session and if someone doesn't take that much profit, they are doing it wrong.

I know that most people don't stop when they have already won a significant amount because they have lost more than that in their previous sessions, but that doesn't make things any better, if you take the profit and exit, you will at least have something recovered from what you have lost previously.

because luck is on your side on that point but majority will really be busting all of those winnings back into the casino on which this one would really be leading up into such huge regret on the moment that you will really be losing up.

Yes that's right and maybe I will simplify your idea above about gamblers who cannot ignore greed in themselves, in the sense that when they are in a lucky situation that makes them win big usually they will think that by continuing then they will be able to get a much bigger amount of winnings, in the sense that they feel that luck will last longer, even though however it can never be known, because after all the name of luck is something that will come without being invited and leave without saying goodbye.P

And in the end as you said that often gamblers who apply greed end up in a worrying situation, in the sense that all the winnings they have managed to get back to the casino due to intolerable losses. It is clear that this is the reason why applying greed is always prohibited in gambling, because there is absolutely no certainty for you to get a bigger amount, so it is better to avoid such actions if you do not want to end up with regrets.

For me now, i would say it is easier for me to quit when losing, morever if i already grown my bankroll. I learnt from my experiences, i used to be an addicted gambler who never quit when winning or even when i already got any loss.

But, i'm feeling lucky when i got realized that i am addicted to gamble. So, the point is we should be aware of what we are doing, whatever it is, always think about the positive and negative ways of our acts. If you had that awareness, trust me, you will get my point, and will be a "responsible gambler", and not an "addicted gambler" as i used to be.

I will quit if I've make $500 and I will keep gamble instead of save the remaining $10, because I have a specific target when I want to withdraw my money and I've budgeting my weekly gambling activity, so I don't have to save my remaining money in order to gamble in the next week.

Let's say I budgeted $40 per month, which mean I will gamble $10 per week, so I will gamble until I met the specific target or gamble it all.

So you have an allocated amount that you can afford to lose and you will not stop until you lose everything, right? What about your target for winning? Do you set that as well? In this discussion, we are talking about a $100 bankroll, so what's your target profit from your original bankroll?

My work makes me to be busy during week days and I may not gamble until the weekend.

How do you manage your gambling that it will not affect your work in a negative way? I'm just curious as I'm reading some comments before that they got distracted when they are gambling at work.

If a player manages to make his bankroll double to 5x, he will definitely be faced with difficult choices, because gambling when winning or losing is not an easy thing to stop., but if I can make my bankroll multiplied up to 5x and decide to continues until only $ 10 remains then there is no reason to stop and save the rest, I will continue the game even if it finally makes my balance run out then should be because there is already a much more fund lost so losing 10% of the initial deposit amount is just like completing the game session at that time.
If I want to stop it should be done when the balance is still quite a lot or more than the initial bankroll, or withdrawing some of the existing funds and the rest in the account is used for the game session tomorrow, I withdraw more often even if it's partially, because sometimes when I get a large enough profit the game becomes boring.

It's much easier to stop when you're winning. Most people have a goal when they start to gamble and they have some ideas of what they'd spend the money on. When they double it, it's already enough for many people, but OP gave an example of going to $500 from $100, so that would make most people quit, or partially quit, withdrawing $400 and leaving the last $100 to check if the luck is still there and they can squeeze out more. IN my case I'd play it safe and withdraw at least $450 and leave $50 for another bet when I'm in the mood.
When you're down to $10 most people will say fuck it, saving $10 won't make losing $90 any easier Wink
That's a good answer, so the gamblers can still enjoy the profit even they lose in their next gambling session rather than risking all the $500 in order to earn more. Sometimes we're really lucky and can multiply our bankroll for short time, if we're stop to gamble, we will not feel happy because we're still want to gamble.

Yeah there's no point o save the remaining $10, you can wait till next week or month to reload your bankroll.

This topic makes me remember and relate it to this one: "The real winning of gambling is withdrawals."

While gambling, if you are winning and you decide not to withdraw your profit, you may still end up losing them all in the casino, and that is why I will personally withdraw my winnings and only leave to withdraw a small amount, which I can use later to gamble with.

Just as you have said, @OP, let's assume I have a $100 bankroll and I increase it to $500. That means I have made a profit of $400, right? What I will do is withdraw the $400 and only leave the $100 I initially started with. I don't have to wait until I have lost almost all the money up to $10.

This topic makes me remember and relate it to this one: "The real winning of gambling is withdrawals."
We could use that as a basis and compare on how many times we withdraw versus the times we deposit.

Personally, I can say that I have more deposits, so I don't need to check my record if I'm doing fine because I would only be upset, lol.

While gambling, if you are winning and you decide not to withdraw your profit, you may still end up losing them all in the casino, and that is why I will personally withdraw my winnings and only leave to withdraw a small amount, which I can use later to gamble with.

That's a safe strategy. At least with that $100, when we gamble, it doesn't give us a lot of pressure anymore. I hope we will be able to stay disciplined, as there are gamblers who get affected and chase their losses. So, in your case, if you win and have withdrawn the $400 but lose the $100, do you think it would be easy for you to walk away with that $400 after losing the remaining $100, or would you feel challenged and think about depositing again?

Anyone who understands that it is impossible to win again and again will accept his winnings and leave thinking that today is enough. However, some players will always be tormented by the greed of others and the hope of large sums, which most often leads them to lose. I believe that every player has his steps with which he can raise the stakes, relying on his intuition. Experience is always important here; if you know you won once and were able to leave on time, then you can do it again. If not, the game will give you different experiences and lessons to learn.

Which is way more easier to deal with, the regret of knowing you can win more, or the regret of knowing you could've saved all those wins had you just been half sensible and more careful with your bets and actions? This is the reason why there's a saying called "quitting while you're ahead". You can't let the enemy inch an advantage against you because when they do get that advantage, no matter how miniscule, they could make a mile out of it and make you lose everything, as is the case with casinos.

So while it's way easier in theory to quit when you're losing cause you literally have no money to play with anymore, it's way more fulfilling to stop while you're winning and grab profits whenever possible. Saves you the burden of having to revenge gamble too.

If perhaps am not able to increase the $100 far more and I ended up to lose all of it just in one day, I will definitely leave and not repeat again through out that day but if I had allow all the $500 to site in my casino balance, I will definitely have the urge to keep trying luck and before you realize it, i must have already lose all the money, so it's better to save yourself of the temptation and withdraw your profit, leaving behind the amount you are willing to gambling off. I don't love to spend too much on gambling just in one day, $100 is even too much to waste just in a daily staking.

To quit when winning. When you are satisfied with the amount that you won, it's easier to cash it all out without feeling any regret. That's my opinion on that matter. While when we are losing it's gets harder and harder to stop because you are going for revenge and you want your money back at any way possible. This is actually where it all goes wrong when a gambler tries to chase his losses, he won't stop until he either get back all the losses or he want more win after he acquired the losses back.
Some winners might be greedy but if we have a bracket of when to withdraw then I think we will exit without any trouble.

First, you need to clearly define what you mean by the word quit. Do you mean a gambling session or gambling in general? Judging by the amount discussed, you mean only the session. In this case, there is no problem for me to stop at any time - I mainly place bets on sporting events and this process is initially very drawn out in time (sometimes a week passes from the bet to the receipt of the result, especially in the case of multi-bets).

Not every day can you grow your bankroll to five times, but I can easily quit with that five times profit and spend a glass of beer. I don't want to experience what I experienced so many times of doubling or tripling my bets only to lose everything I don't want to end up chasing my losses, so if it's five times the bankroll, I'll quit cashout and log out.
People should not be too greedy to want more; of course, it's different if you do not care about the outcome and you want to play for the sake of playing; you're playing just for the sake of playing.

To me it is harder to quit when winning, but that's because I always stick to a limited balance I always set on beforehand, as many of my colleagues here. If the money allocated for betting evaporates, that's a clear game over for me; so it is more difficult to don't go greedy when I get profit because, although it is not, it is difficult not to see it as "free money". And you know what they say: what easy comes...
