There's no way you can make conclusion from the performance of Chelsea at the conference league and the club world cup. Both are respectively different competition that are not where close to the champions league. In the conference league, Chelsea where the favourite and had very small opposition that had what it takes to do hard against them till the finals which they did very well in. Almost similar thing happend in th club world cup as they fortunately bypassed strong opposition and somehow found themselves in the finals which they where able to take advantage of and eventually won it at the end.

Even if we can't conclude from the outcome of this first game, it's clear that the highest they can do is to win one or two games and that's all. It will be hard for them to really put up a good play against the tough teams they will be going against.

I'm personally quite confident that Chelsea will at least manage to get three points against Benfica. Benfica themselves aren't in their best form right now. And I believe Chelsea are still slightly better than Benfica. But I also agree that Chelsea's performance hasn't been as good as it was this summer, especially in the Club World Cup. But Chelsea seems to be like this every season. They start off average, then their performance improves as the season progresses. And maybe that will happen again.

After a 2-2 draw with Brentford, they've lost every match. They're currently 2-1 up against Lincoln. Chelsea have been having some bad games lately. They also lost to Bayern Munich. Mourinho will definitely want to announce his welcome to Benfica, but I also doubt if he has the necessary time to pull that through. After Chelsea had lost their first match in the champions league, they will not be reluctant in this match and will go for the win this time around. Chelsea were indeed in their aura moments because they finished the premier league competition in the top four. The league start was not really encouraging seeing how Chelsea played, but towards the end of the season, their best form came out and that performance was also replicated in the club World Cup. So saying wasn’t in their aura moments is not the lame truth. They’re battled and eliminated top teams in the club World Cup before finally humiliating PSG in the finals, so I can’t but believe that they were in their best of forms and that will show in them this season also. A poor start to the season doesn’t mean a poor finish to the season, till will tell about Chelsea’s performance this season.
