African Football Discussion Thread Current Topic: 👉 FIFA WorldCup 2026.

The African teams are doing very well in this World Cup, at least in this group stage we have 5 African teams that have already secured qualification for the next phase and there is one more that still has a chance to qualify. If Ghana manages to qualify, then we would have 6 teams from our African continent qualified. That would be very good, of course the biggest problem is in the knockout stage, because we will only find very strong opponents and this could lead us to see African teams being eliminated unfortunately. It's very funny how lucky Cape Verde was. They qualified for the next phase without winning and only scored 2 goals.

The African teams are truly doing a great job with their performance. They are taking the competition strongly and are ready to keep the momentum on the pitch, they will go far. It is not like we don’t have squads in those countries, it is just we don’t hype ourselves or speak so highly of our own countries. We prefer to speaks and hail other nations. We are eager to make good comments by celebrating their efforts but we are not fare enough to ourselves to celebrate our own. I advocate we become the marketers of ourselves and leave the differences aside instead of trying to make bad comments and wishes on each other, Africa will remain Africa and Africa will continue to be seen as a third world continent

Out of the ten representatives African sent to the world cup, six, Morocco , Egypt, Cape Verde, Ivory coast, Ghana and South Africa has automatically Qualified for the next round while two, Senegal and Algeria could join the Best losers 8 into the next round.. Tunisia is officially out of the world cup tournament. This is a good result for the continent especially based on how tough this groups tend to be in the beginning. Cape Verde to face Argentina in the round of 32, I hope they make it farther.

The team that surprised me the most is Cape Verde. How they managed to qualify automatically in a group that had Spain and Uruguay is very commendable. Even though they didn't lose any matches, they also did not lose. Getting a draw against Spain and Uruguay is impressive. I didn't give them a chance. I thought they would lose all their matches and get knocked out.
They would be facing Argentina in the round of 32. I mean, I don't think they have what it takes to knock out Argentina, but we have already seen how football is, so I will not write them off completely.

It would be good to see more African countries qualify for the round of 16. Teams like Senegal, Morocco, and Egypt have a huge chance. Ivory Coast is good enough to win Norway. It's going to be interesting to see.

But since you asked me what's is my prediction concerning South Africa and Canada match, I think Canada will edge South Africa with either 2-1 or 1-0.

I wouldn't accept that Canada will win South Africa because it looks like they have woken up from their slumber. If you watched their last match against South Korea that gave them the chance to be in the game, you wouldn't underestimate them. Canada performance hasn't been impressive compared to the other host nations.

It took Senegal three matches for them to record their first win in this World Cup tournament. I don't know if this win can make Senegal be among the eight best third place teams in order for them to reach the round of 32 and remain in this World Cup, because it will be bad if African champions exit the World Cup in the group stage.

I thought they will not qualify after losing to France and Norway but yesterday after the thrashing they gave to Iraq, it wont be ignored. They have 3points and +2 goal difference, when I checked their table and saw they met the criteria for qualifying. It's official, Senegal are in the round of 32 thanks to their performance against Iraq, I was afraid we will not be seeing up to five African teams but now they are more than five after Cape verde qualified too for the same rounds.

Africans are raised with almost one moral background, we were raised to love and treat ourselves like one regardless of our nationalities. That's why most nations in the continent aren't happy with how our South African brothers and sisters are treating immigrants from other Africans countries.

That said, I think the message was loudly sent with how almost every other African supported Mexico to beat South Africa in their opening game of the FIFA World Cup. Their national team captain even reacted to it and called for support from other African countries. Now we need to put our differences behind and support them for the rest of their games in the tournament, that's how to correct our brothers with love.

South Africa had a “great game” because South Korea was just horrible. Canada are not weak opponents and this match is very important to them as they are one of the hosts and it’s also the first time Canada will be playing in the round of 32 in the World Cup. I’m not supporting Bafana Bafana for obvious reasons, but it’s clear that Canada are favorites in this match.

I don't hold South Africa that highly, personally reasons tho. But facts still remain that South Africa is just playing terribly this World Cup, I felt they would be one of the biggest teams to dominate in there table but yet they struggle and if not for that last minute goal, that SA and South Koreas match would have ended in a draw. There is a high possibility of that happening and it shouldn’t be a shocker to many people. Canada has been very great since the beginning of the competition and I don’t think they will no doubt well in their next knockout game. This world is actually very different and tricky, we have not being able to record the best of performance from the teams we ought to have seen such performances from.

We saw most teams already having a hard time from the group stage even if they look to be the favourite to win the game. I know the knockout stage will be filled with more surprises, we will see more teams getting to be eliminated from the competition when we least expect them because of the opponent they’ll be playing against. No team is an underdog and any team that made it to the knockout stage is indeed not a team to look down on by any team.

South Korea on a good day were known for fast attacking style of play and they have some big names in the team that would have guaranteed the win for them but it looked like very thing was gonna change since South Africa had other plans in the game against them. You are right, out of the 9 African teams that qualified it looks it only 2 that won't make it to the round of 32 which are Tunisia and probably DR Congo , if they are unable to beat Uzbekistan. Africa nations has really impressed me a lot in this world cup, especially teams like Cape Verde (drawing Uruguay and Spain), south Africa(Finally qualifying against all odds), and lastly Morocco. I think Morocco is only team I feel will really go far in this world cup after the performance they displayed in their group stage. Especially against Brazil, it was a fantastic match. Africa countries has low PR , it would be nice if we truly hype our players the way other continents does.

Sadly that’s the opposite side of football, you can’t say that because you are actually or you actually won against an opponent or even drew on paper with that when you play against the opponents that team has played against and the opponent defeated or were superior to them, this doesn’t gurantee that you would able to beat them because let’s be sincere the game of football is actually unpredictable.

This game between Croatia and Ghana we can all say statistically the black stars have been better than Croatian national team but to be honest they don’t actually look like they are better than the Croatia national team, even in that game between the England team I think England were just too exceptional in that game but since then they haven’t look any good as even a contender for this tournament.

lol I don’t know any of the big names in South Korea asides from Son. In my opinion, the teams lacks quality and most importantly they need to sack the current manager. Even if they somehow manage to advance it to the round of 32, they would have to play against the top teams and I’m sure they would lose woefully.

Africa nations has really impressed me a lot in this world cup, especially teams like Cape Verde (drawing Uruguay and Spain), south Africa(Finally qualifying against all odds), and lastly Morocco. I think Morocco is only team I feel will really go far in this world cup after the performance they displayed in their group stage. Especially against Brazil, it was a fantastic match.

Morocco has been doing so well in recent football that we ignore the achievements recently in trying to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup and everyone looks like it is a normal thing because of how much quality they have in their team.
The Moroccan side are best representative of Africa currently because the ability might think that I have the capability of getting even to the semi finals of the World Cup with how well they play in attacking and how well they defend. Ghana has been disappointing to me, maybe it is due to the injuries that they suffered to some players who could make a difference before the world cup started.
