I agree with you, that addiction is entirely one's own responsibility. Indeed, in this case there is a role of influencers or anything that advertises gambling to introduce gambling to someone. But when the person can avoid it, then everything will not happen.

I will analogize it to cigarettes for example, the government does not prohibit but they still legalize and there are even warnings on cigarette packs, but still many people smoke and are even addicted. I guess if we really want to prevent this, the only real option is to stop gambling altogether. At the end of the day, KYC is a government requirement, and casinos are just following the law. As a big company with long time of existence, operation they possibly have good systematic security and reputation but there are risk of data leaks, not only by external hacks but sometimes from internal data leak. Coinbase, Binance, and even the US army had data leaks no matter how many layers of security they have. If people as internal human resources, who understand about the system, want to steal data for personal benefits, they will figure out holes in security system for doing that.

Trusting a company for securing your sensitive personal data is never a good practice. Your trust and their company reputation are not enough to keep your sensitive data safely.
