I saw a thread some weeks ago where someone was complaining, that he received a message about investment from someone in this forum. Most of this old members that are messaging newbies in other to scam them has already been given negative feedback by DT members in this forum, so when you see a PM from old forum members, what you should do is to check their feedback and from there feedback you will know the kind of person they are. But I will advise, regardless of their feedback tell them to make it public or forget about it.
And for the DT members if you are giving trust to someone, make sure the member is trustworthy because if they are involved in scamming newbies here, and the newbie says he believed the member was trustworthy because of the trust you gave the member, you too will be held accountable to some extent.
OP I like this topic because you're creating awareness here base on the random messages flowing into the message box of newbies. Why is it that when one spot someone to be beginner at something, the first thing that come to their mind is to lecture them and at that point, you can choose to either mislead them or tell them the actual information. Everything happens for a reason. I know you'd keep sounding it as warning to these newbies but most of them are just ignorant, they wouldn't even listen until they fall victim. It is because newbies are very vulnerable because of their limited knowledge. They believe that since the newbies are still new, they can be easily misled. I got lots of PMs as a newbie but I'm not getting such PMs now. Newbies will always be newbies and whatever experience they encounter will form part of the lessons they'll learn from to grow This forum has made things easier for newbies, they don't need to make such mistakes themselves, they learn from experienced forum people here. I think that in fact most newbie members are not real newbie members but just have such a rank. Some were already members on this forum and some were members on other online forums and understand the forum rules very well and what is allowed and what is not. After all, no one will ask random passersby for money or some other personal favor on the street, so it is normal that you will not do that with strangers on the Internet. These are things that we all know even without reading the forum rules and are called common sense. We can be newbies about crypto things that are new or unknown to us, but not about the basic rules of good behavior and respect for others. Even with this common knowledge, people (both newbies and experienced members) are still getting scammed by sending money to people they met on the internet. What could be the problem? It is not like any random stranger can just walk up to anyone and demand that they send them money, ofcourse no one will be that stupid to send money to a random person for no reason. These scammers are very strategic with what they do; they understand that the easiest way to get people to send them money is by using what their targets do not know against them them. They can come claiming to fix some technical issues or rendering some professional advice. They are willing to be patient inorder to build trust before they strike. Again, newbies (I mean real newbies) are usually the targets because they are yet to understand how things work. Once anyone publicly acts clueless or presents himself as a newbie, he should be expecting unsolicited messages in his pm.

A reputable member of this forum that has integrity wouldn't pm you for a business deal that they haven't made public yet. If anyone has any investment that's profitable they don't have to pm you about it, all they need to do is post about it and those that are interested would send them a message. A lot of people have been scammed through this means and as the world keeps on advancing people come up with different methods or ways to scam others. You just have to be smart so you don't end up falling for things like this.
That's true but newbies should also know that this doesn't guarantee safety. Because a PM is from reputable members doesn't mean you should trust them. Because I have seen many accounts that have been tagged as 'user has changed hands' across all ranks. So for something like this you shouldn't trust anyone. We need to be concerned about our privacy because newbies are the people scammers always target. Any messages that concern investment, we should just avoid them completely no matter how genuine they look, because that’s a red flag. We shouldn’t let greed push us into scammers hands.

I don’t know if I am the only one that don’t trust anyone that pm me first and want to help me or want to introduce me to an investment or something that will help me to gain profit, as a newbie, you should be very smart and believe that there is no way of making fast money or profit in crypto,
If either high rank or low rank messages you, you just have to be careful, because high rank which you might be thinking they already have reputation, and they not going to scam you, the persons account might end up being compromised, the account might be hacked, and the hacker will want to scam you. In crypto space, you should know that there is no easy way to make money, and if anyone promises you that, then you are likely going to be scammed. You should know that bitcoin investment is not a Ponzi scheme. If anyone ask you to make use of any platform to invest, it’s better you avoid things like that, if they send you link and they ask you to click on the link, avoid things like that.

OK, I agree with you that scammers are very creative and their fraudulent schemes are always very well thought out. Of course, I didn't literally mean that people would hand over their money to some random person on the street; it was more of a metaphor. However, it is important to always reflect on our decisions and not jump to conclusions. If someone offers me a service, I should always ask myself: why? What are their reasons or motives? We all need to be aware that we don't live in an ideal world and that not everyone is our friend. Therefore, if someone on this forum receives a PM with an offer, they should always carefully consider it, check the person, and—if in doubt—check with the forum community. Of course, the question is how many new members actually read this thread, and how many will actually apply this and other useful pieces of advice found here.

I just think the reason it is easier for newbies on this forum to be deceived is that they come here with the mindset of making money from the forum. So, when any offer is made to them, it seems like a good opportunity. Like you said, many of them will not go through these threads to learn from other people's experiences and get advice on how to identify scammers, even if they present themselves as reputable members of this forum. Once any newbie makes money their top priority here, their brain will automatically be programmed not to think or ask questions about why an offer seems too good to be true. The real newbies know how to apply what they learn here in their everyday interactions with people.

This mostly happened to those who are desperate of making money from the Internet especially when they don't have any prior knowledge to what that is concerning the crypto or their investments you see them easily becoming scammed. Anyone out there can actually scam and it must not be only newbie but also can be initiated by well known people when their is either being hijacked by someone. That is why we must be very careful with our forum details especially that of our passwords as anyone out there could easily login and use it for scam.

Of course, the question is how many new members actually read this thread, and how many will actually apply this and other useful pieces of advice found here.Yea, that is the problem. Yes, I agree that the core issue is that, for most new members, the primary reason for joining this forum is the prospect of making money, rather than a desire to learn or exchange information about crypto projects. Of course, the desire for profit and financial freedom is not inherently bad, but it creates conditions that can lead to poor outcomes. When someone becomes desperate due to financial difficulties and focuses solely on how to make money, they tend to overlook warning signs; their usual safeguards fall away, leaving them at a much higher risk of being scammed. Unfortunately, this is something we have seen happen many times before. People in a stable financial situation are generally more cautious regarding financial offers and are less likely to fall victim to scams.

Trust should be earned and when a newbie or anyone got a pm from any of the forum members, the first thing they should do is to check for the feedbacks from other users on their profiles. This is better and it's a safety precaution to prevent any scam attempt. Old accounts that have been hacked are the ones most of these people often use to scam new users of the forum so they can believe that the account is genuine especially when it has a green feedbacks that belongs to the previous owner of the account. Our personal safety is very important in this case to prevent being scammed.

Any messages that concern investment, we should just avoid them completely no matter how genuine they look, because that’s a red flag. We shouldn’t let greed push us into scammers hands. You’re very correct, Trust isn’t something that you must show people easily, it is something that people must be earned. Anyone that receive pm from forum members is suppose to check the person’s feedback and profile properly. They may not know if the accounts may be hacked or scammers can use previous owners good reputation to deceive people. That’s why we need to be vigilant and verify things properly before trusting anyone with our money.
