Messi and Ronaldo can be compared on several different criteria, the number of goals scored in their career, the number of individual awards won, the number of club trophies won and the number of trophies won with their national team.
Depending on the criterion we choose, we will get a different answer about who is the better player, Ronaldo or Messi.
However, since we are discussing the FIFA World Cup here, Messi has definitely done much more in this regard than Ronaldo.
Messi has led his national team to 2 South American championship titles, Copa América, 2021, 2024 and also led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title in Qatar, and led them to the final 2 more times, in 2014 and 2026.
On that side, Ronaldo can't be compared to Messi.
Ronaldo has only been European champion once with Portugal, in 2016, and has won a less important competition twice, the UEFA Nations League: 2019 and 2025.
Messi has definitely achieved much greater results with the national team than Ronaldo.
Exactly in every awards groom Messi was on the top of the head weather it's individual awards or it's a club awards or even International too. I know many people has a carry a lot of hate in heart for him but I think they have dull head like they didn't understand that it's football and here love and unity make sounds good. Both have prestigious profile with different nature even their style play are quite different for each other......

However, now it's a dying minutes for both like they are on edge of his career and probably with in few years they will be gone from us and to be honest will discuss then as historical figure. So share a thrilled movement rather quarrel.

Yes, in the end, it seems that Rinaldo will be more successful than Messi only in the number of goals scored, and it seems to me that he is actually "artificially" prolonging his career precisely because he wants to become immortal and be the first to cross the "magical threshold" of 1,000 goals scored in official matches.
Unlike Ronaldo, who is more selfish and focused on his personal achievements and records, Messi is more of a team player and is ready to submit to the team and the team's common success, which was especially evident in his appearances for the Argentine national team in major competitions.
On the other hand, Ronaldo, with his selfishness on the field, has often been a hindrance to the success of his national team.
In any case, both have already become football legends, but I predict that Mbappe will soon surpass them, both in the number of goals scored and in the number of club and national team trophies won.
Mbappe is still relatively young and I think he could play in at least 2 more World Cups and will have the opportunity to win many more personal and team trophies.

FIFA fined Argentina $321,000 and ordered the attendance at Argentina's next match to be halved.

This is just ridiculous. It's literally peanuts for them.

And the attendance "halved" is basically taking a laugh at everyone else. Teams were sentenced to 0 attendance for several games for far less in the past.

But of course the team of FIFA's golden boy is untouchable.

These are trivial punishments. But I'm not surprised at all, I'm too lazy to even find out the details, for example, whether Argentina was punished for the fact that the players waved a political banner about the Falkland Islands after one of the games. This alone would have required major disqualifications, but FIFA chose to "ignore" it.
And naturally, I'm not surprised that FIFA didn't punish itself for violating its own regulations when they succumbed to political pressure and lifted Balagun's disqualification.
I hope that by 2030 FIFA will be cleared of all this trash (like Infantino) and we will see the organization functioning properly.

It may be  the USA was the host country of FIFA, So Trump has taken an additional advantage. Where Trump should not have give attention about such issues or requested the FIFA president. Behind many incidents in this world cup, there were various political issues related to it. That is why there was so much negative criticism about the last world cup. Which may not have happened with any world cup in the past. And the FIFA president is being blamed for all these incidents, which really has enough logic behind it. Because he should have made a fair decision in all cases. But he may not have been able to do it due to various pressures. If Infantino loses in the next FIFA president election, then maybe the 2030 world cup will be seen in a slightly different way in the future. This is the intention of most viewers. But if the new president is elected, how honest he will be is also a matter of consideration. But I want the football to not be influenced by any politics or economy, whoever the president comes.

The only, and absolutely only, solution is if the UEFA steps down and says "game over". That is what counts, nothing else. Make the product worse, that is the only leverage UEFA has against FIFA. And maybe guys like you would still take their remote control and watch.
If something like this happens, things will end drastically, and it's not worth letting a global event end because of corrupt officials. It makes no sense because without UEFA, absolutely everything collapses.

I don't think it's fair that a World Cup should be canceled because evil can't always triumph. I understand that many are outraged, but the FIFA organization must be above anyone who has mismanaged it. It's a shame how things have come to this.

I fail to understand why Infantino came forward with such absurd ideas when a perfectly well-functioning system was already in place.
UEFA is right to object to this situation.
FIFA needs to get rid of Infantino and never elect him again.
During the last World Cup, Balogun's suspension was postponed for no valid reason.
"Cooling breaks"—which were essentially just commercial breaks—were implemented under the pretext of extreme heat.
Situations like these might please sponsors or certain corporations, but they certainly didn't sit well with viewers like us.
As long as Infantino remains in charge, such nonsense will continue.

Hel no way.....
Is really Kilyan will surpas them....  Roll Eyes

This is just a partial shade like Kilyan Mbappe is only a trend players and definitely with passage of time he will also be stand in good players line. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is out of this world no one can near to their level weather it's in past or in current.

I think you still feel that Kilyan is 18 or 19 but let me tell you that Kilyan Mbappe is 27 and in December he will got 28. So still he didn't won any thing like Messi or Ronaldo. I know he has only World Cup but still he didn't have any UEFA champions league title or even Balloon d'Or.

Wait one more question. Did U know when Messi was 27 how many Balloon d'Or or golden shoes or even UCL title he was...

I can partially agree with you that Mbappe will not reach Ronaldo or Mbappe in terms of the number of personal trophies like the Ballon d'Or, but that is not the only criterion of someone's success.
Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano won that trophy only 2 times in his career, Benfica legend Eusébio only once, Johan Cruyff 3 times, Beckenbauer 2 times and honestly, I believe that they were no worse footballers than Ronaldo, who won it 5 times.
Mbappe has already, after only 3 World Cups, scored more goals in World Cups than Messi and Ronaldo, who played in twice as many World Cups, 6 of them.
Mbappe has already won the World Cup with France, and I believe that he will probably win at least 1 more World Cup by the end of his career, unlike Ronaldo, who was never a world champion in football.
Messi and Ronaldo were lucky enough to be part of two of the most dominant teams in football history, at certain periods, Messi with Barcelona and Ronaldo with Real.
Mbappe was not so lucky with PSG (who only became dominant after his departure) and Real are currently in crisis.
However, he still has plenty of time to win both personal and club trophies, and has already won many national trophies with PSG and Real.
Time will tell.

You shouldn't judge Mbappe now until, he has stopped playing football. That's when you can know all his achievements. However, Ronaldo and Messi are beyond comparison only, if we see another player that can be unique and beat their records. Though, Mbappe is the highest goal scorer in the world cup history.

I can partially agree with you that Mbappe will not reach Ronaldo or Mbappe in terms of the number of personal trophies like the Ballon d'Or, but that is not the only criterion of someone's success..

Ballon d'Or has been a shitshow for many years now. Players have gotten robbed of it in favour of Messi countless times. Haalland, Lewandowski, Iniesta, Sneider...the list can go on.

It barely means anything where you assess one's football career anymore.

Mbappe is already one of the greatest in history.

It is true that there have been several debates about Messi being awarded the Ballon d'Or. But it would not be right to say that he was unfairly awarded the Ballon d'Or. Almost every time he has won, his individual performance has been very strong. Goals, assists, consistency and team contribution were all enough in his favor. Another thing is that in the years in which Messi has won, he has won because he was ahead of his closest opponent in voting or points.

So the result can be debated, but it is not right to call the official voting result robbery just because you don't like it. And the Ballon d'Or is not given only based on goal scoring. How impactful a player was the season, what was his contribution in big matches, his role in team success, and overall individual performance, all these are taken into consideration. Of course, everyone is free to express their own opinion. It is not unusual to criticize an award result, but there needs to be strong reasoning behind that criticism.

Just because favorite player didn't win doesn't make the result unfair. There may be a few other players ahead of Messi in the current Ballon d'Or race. Messi may not win this time. But whoever wins, if his performance and contribution throughout the season is the strongest, then he should get the award based on his contribution  .

Well I obviously addressed the popular notion that ''No one who has less than 8 Ballon d'Or awards should be compared to Messi''. Maybe only hardcore Messi fanboys say so, but still it's worth to mention how nonsensical it is every now and then.

Mbappe is turning 28 in a few months. It's safe to say he will not end his career with 8 Ballon d'Ors, maybe 3-4 at best - considering that he still holds 0.

But he already achieved a lot and holds some records Messi didn't even close to - for example being the best goalscorer of 2 World Cups in a row and being the best goalscorer of World Cups in total. Or being the best goalscorer of the French League 6 times in a row...

His stats already are crazy, furthermore, he's still young. He's almost guaranteed to play AT LEAST 1 World Cup and 2 Euro Cups. If he maintains his current form, in 6-7 years it will be fair to say he's no worse than Messi, regardless of how many awards issued by a corrupted entity he holds.

--somehow the Argentine midfield didn't work that day and it affected their game play coupled with the red card that Enzo Fernandez got, so please i see no reason why we should be attacking the Argentina team, is it easy to be a former defending champion and still perform so well as to getting to the final, i think what Argentina deserves is applause rather than criticism.

I don't think it's fair to say that most people don't appreciate Messi. Messi is one of the best players in the history of world football and even if he has a slightly impulsive character, that doesn't mean he is a player that people don't appreciate. And i can also say that of all the matches Argentina has played, the one against England is the only one they really deserved, because they faced an England team incapable of reacting.
It is not like they don’t like his personality or game play, most people appreciate him and fan him, even those that always criticize him still know deep down that he is a spectacular player, their only issue is that they feel that most of his achievements in football were out of favor of which personally am kicking against, Messi has been exceptional good right from onset and i feel he actually earned every respect, trophies and achievements that he have gotten, there haven’t been any favoritism to me from FIFA to him, the thing is once you are good people must criticize and say a lot of things about you, most referees overlook some things in some matches but it is not everything that fans should feel is favoritism simply because it didn’t favor their team or favor the player they fan, you also brought England into this, i will say it over and over again, currently in world football there is no small team, those teams that Argentina played during the World Cup like Egypt etc that we feel we’re not strong would have shockingly removed even Spain if they had encountered them, Argentina fought and came back from goals down from different matches during this just concluded World Cup so their is no way we can say that it was only the win against England that they deserved, you can’t predict football, who would have imagined that Hull city would beat Man U today in EPL 2:0, that is football for you, it was never Argentina’s fault that they played the teams they played, it was not also their fault that they came back from goals down to win against Egypt etc, Messi is getting closer to retirement, i feel what he deserves now should be applause for his exceptional performance over the years rather than regular criticism.

If a player is truly generational, people simply cannot accept it. They must have a reason why it is NOT talent. It's psychological. Easy to say the refs helped him, or it was FIFA rigged.

Since 2006 I've been watching Messi. For almost 20 years the man has been a consistent ELITE. That does not happen due to favouritism. This occurs in a life-long commitment and once-in-a-lifetime talent.

The retirement conversation is interesting. He's winding down. Who takes the place of him when he leaves? Not only as a player, but as the subject of whole arguments, stories, rivalries? Football kind of NEEDS Messi and Ronaldo to exist. Even the criticism machine needs them.

Argentina's goals came when they were needed. Messi made moments when they were needed. The stats are one thing, the scoreline is another.

I never believe that there was corruption in the matches. Yes, the goals in the matches were scored at the moment when they needed the goals and it was not possible to score goals with any player other than Messi, that's why some people say that. If we watch the game at that time, we will see that they played the entire match centered on Messi. For example, every player gave the ball to Messi as soon as he got the ball and Messi created a goal opportunity as soon as he got the ball. If we could have seen all the other players on the field at that moment, maybe this result would not have happened with them. If there was really corruption in the matches, then why did we see such a result in the final and why did Argentina not take a single shot in the final

.

It is quite difficult to compare anyone with Messi and Ronaldo. Because they have not only played well for a few years, but they have been playing well for almost two decades and have been ruling football. So it is still difficult to compare Mbappe with them. But Mbappe is not a trend player. If you compare Mbappe's age with Messi and Ronaldo, Mbappe is still young. Despite Mbappe's young age, he has taken himself to a level in the World Cup where many legends could not reach. Apart from the World Cup, Mbappe has the Nations League, many domestic leagues and cups, individual Golden Boot and more trophies with Real Madrid. So calling Mbappe a trend player would be showing less respect to him.

R

These are trivial punishments. But I'm not surprised at all, I'm too lazy to even find out the details, for example, whether Argentina was punished for the fact that the players waved a political banner about the Falkland Islands after one of the games. This alone would have required major disqualifications, but FIFA chose to "ignore" it.
Argentinian midfielder Paredes was punished with a 10 match ban due to the incident that happened in the final between Argentina and Spain, FIFA didn't bypass judgement on the incident, the player is facing punishment. It is okay to assume Argentina gets away with lots of things, yes they do and so do other countries, but we don't call them out because it doesn't involve either Messi or Ronaldo.
