Everyone is free to make their own decisions. Ignore me if you disagree.

I think there are plenty of warnings regarding the DASH instamine and other red flags in the alt coin section already.  Some people make assumptions about coin popularity based on the length of their announcement thread (although this is often a bad assumption).  Why not keep our criticisms about DASH in the alt coin section devoted to those topics and ignore their announcement thread? I estimate that their announcement thread is at least 1 or 2 thousand pages longer than it should be because of people posting about their instamine and other problems.

I actually have doubts that the DASH community is larger than Monero but the length of their announcement thread gives that impression. Our Reddit page for example is more active than theirs. Some of you may have noticed that r/dashpay recently decreased from 5000 readers to about 1100 (I suspect many of their fake readers were deleted). As much as the DASH community complains I think they actually like Monero supporters posting in the DASH announcement thread to make it longer. I propose we stop posting their and post in the topics already started to discuss specific topics (instamine, lack of masternode mode blinding, mining rewards, sporks etc.) instead.

Although unprofessional behaviour by other Crypto-Currency devs,  thanks for funding the promotion of DASH... We would like to thank you for keeping us top of mind on this forum. As the saying goes... There is no bad publicity!  Thanks...

Please share your thoughts.

My thoughts? It's shameful that so many Monero supporters spend more energy trying to discredit other coins (mostly dash) than keeping forum.getmonero.org alive or doing something useful for the coin.

In any case, you decide how you want to define your coin, cheers.

than keeping forum.getmonero.org alive

The forum is plenty alive. It isn't the highest traffic forum around but it does what it needs to do. Many people prefer to interact here or on IRC or reddit. Nothing wrong with any of those.

Yeah, get more active users on the IRC - it's WAY better, but needs more active chat.

Ask yourself how many potential users or businesses you have introduced to Monero today.

If the answer is 0 please log off bitcointalk and come back once your answer changes. YOU control the future of this currency. Do what needs to be done to advance adoption.

I used to talk up bitcoin some - interested listeners could find exchanges, buy bitcoin, find stuff to buy, etc - all while being only about as smart as I am  (wallet from blockchain, BTC from localbitcoins, fun at Poloniex, etc).

If I tried to talk up Monero, interested listeners would go where for an "easy" XMR wallet?  (All my XMR are on Poloniex)  Would acquire XMR how?  (I get all my XMR at Poloniex).  Would use XMR how?  (I would have to transmit from my Poloniex account).

Does XMR take a bigger, nerdier, more intense, time consuming hardware/software commitment than BTC does for everyday use?

MyMonero is an easy wallet.

I know, web wallet, blah blah, but I've met a fair number of Bitcoin users in person and a huge portion, something more than half, used either blockchain.info or coinbase as their wallet.

Okay and how are you contributing to adoption by lecturing others on this topic?

Monero needs organic growth. That doesn't mean that we all have to go out and start evangelizing to hype Monero.

People will learn about it as time goes on. Nothing to worry about here.

To the contrary Brother Smoothie!  This is a very serious matter.  At the recent Thursday service I was the only one to show up, and I've noticed that many of the other elder's Saturday door-to-door hours have been dropping.  The governing body has gifted us with these high quality tracts; the least we can do is make the effort to go spread the truth to our neighbors!

I'm against changing the minimum block size, this is a perfect case for Monero adaptability and if theres demand it should go up by the algorithm. No need to change IMO.

While I would agree with you in principle, there are other things to consider.

I've upgraded Ubuntu (with Monero daemon) to 15.10. So now there is libboost 1.58 instead of 1.55 and now Monero daemon (built 2015-Oct-14) doesn't want to start because "libboost_chrono.so.1.55.0" doesn't exist. I've tried to remove libboost 1.58 and then to install "libboost1.55-all-dev" but stucked at "Unable to locate package libboost1.55-all-dev" error. I'm not an expert in Linux usage so I don't know how to solve this. Please help.

15.10 doesn't appear to have a boost 1.55 package so you will have to recompile Monero.

For those folks building from source on Mac OS X, it looks like you now need to install berkeley-db to make it work (seemed to start happening a week or two ago). Here is what I install from Brew now, and it compiled after pulling today:

Code:
brew install git boost cmake libevent miniupnpc pkg-config berkeley-db

This should now be fixed. If it still breaks, please include the errors (not just the last generic make error).

Edit: actually, it's not merged to master yet, will be soon hopefully.
