Yes 2 is the current minimum mixin is 2 but will be raised to 4.  Therefore it seems to me that 4 is a good recommended minimum now.  I use anywhere from 4 to 10.

Accepting a range as an input could be cool. If you always use the same value there is information leakage there. So its wise to use a random value within a comfortable range. However humans aren't good at random so it would be nice if the client could handle this. I'll submit this over in ideas I think.

Rep Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=381041
If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

Are there any individual or team working to disprove this mixing and unlinking facility? I insist devs to offer bounty for people who try to disprove it and find bugs.

Good point.  We have the Monero research lab who does work in improving the code, but I would imagine the more eyes the better.

I created a thread for you on the getmonero forum.

There is little to no information leakage if you are using a commonly used amount. If you use 63 all the time and no one else does (or not many) then it is easy to pick out your transactions on the blockchain. Unless you really know what you are doing using the default is probably best, or maybe some other common small number like 5 or 10.

Looks like Nick Zabo is watching XMR...saw him on stack exchange .....Also on Roger Ver's reddit he said he will look into XMR.

Is mining XMR still profitable with a regular computer? - nvidia gtx1080 GPU

GUI is coming in the next couple weeks.

Client wallet is not too hard at all anyway if you put some time into learning how to use it.

Please don't go around stating such things, because we don't know when the GUI will be released.

With respect to simplewallet, there is a guide here:

I wouldn't put a time frame on this... no one really knows for certain. Soontm

I felt this way too in the past when learning about xmr (and cryptocurrencies for that matter).  You really don't have to be a genius to do anything with the wallet or knowing how to run a node, the genius work has already been done by devs... all you have to do is follow the instructions for setup.

I can give you some pointers, though, which will make it easier for you to learn how to use xmr if you really want too. The main one is

If you don't have Ubuntu, or some sort of Linux distribution, it's probably better to go ahead and install it on a machine; or use a VM
  • A lot tutorials that are out there on setting up, using, or doing whatever with Monero or any other crypto currencies is done on Linux
  • It's way more secure than any other operating systems (OS) anyways
  • It's free, and there are a lot of cool apps that come along with it!!

Other than that, there will be specific questions you will have that are specific to your situation with your machine, whether that is with Linux or Monero.  Good news is that questions could be both answered or searched for with Monero's stack exchange site or Ubuntu's (main Linux distro) stack exchange site.

Once you get passed the learning curve of figuring out what everything is and what to do in terms of setting things up, it really becomes quite simple.

ah good point...was never good with reddit lol. I love STEEM though. Only coins that have use case now are XMR/STEEM - all other alts not important right now...maybe FCT and a couple other interesting ones but XMR is hot as hell..great community and great minds. Love the XMR research lab stuff.

Glad I bought when I did it looks like people are getting into xmr could be the next big thing I have been reading about it sounds better then dash and I like that there are only 12 million coins not like 100 million. Dose anyone know how much this coin was when it first came out? Anyway thanks for the help!

http://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/9/how-many-monero-will-be-mined-in-total

Quote
The initial number of moneroj in existence will be approximately 18.4 million. However, once that number is reached, a perpetual tail emission of 0.3 xmr per minute will go into effect.

...how much this coin was when it first came out?

https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_xmr

It looks like it started off really high, or just pumped initially to 0.01 btc and then went back down sharply at first and fluctuated over time.

So based on those links, if I did my maths correctly...there are approx 157680k XMR created per year? - thats not much inflation ...very impressive

0.3 XMR created per minute so ....0.3 x 525600 (minutes in a year) = 157680
