W h a t a g r o s s i r o n y that the most legitimate and economic initial distribution of any cryptocoin existing (and therefore the most potential #2 coin in the months and years to come) happens to be a coin with an unbelievably messy codebase, intentionally made scammy, buggy, unoptimized, crippled and obfuscated by the (B)CN scamdevs.
XMR is not the most legitimate and economic initial distribution of any cryptocoin existing. There are other people(myself included) who have gone to great lengths to attempt to create the fairest possible initial distribution for a cryptocurrency. Hah, contradiction already in the second line. Sorry to say but your logic has been going down since last year. There have been other currencies that have been launched with no premine, no instamine, no IPO, with development entirely funded by donations. And that didn't have a crippled hash function at launch. Monero has had a relatively fair launch. But to make a claim as grand as you just did is quite strong. There are many other positive aspects of Monero that are based in fact and can be proudly trumped instead. One of which is the solid dev team that takes an honest approach to communication and doesn't sugar coat the issues. This is rare and exceptional in my opinion. edit: attempt and succeed btw.

I think what he probably meant was not only no premine, etc. but also a relatively huge amount of trading that redistributed the coins to people willing to pay a market price for them. And it is true. For a young altcoin the volume has been huge. So much so that the trolls accuse it of being "fake."

Yes, if the volume is any indication of the quantity of individuals who trade XMR then I agree that the post-launch liquidity and availability has been excellent. But if we evaluate distribution of a currency on the percent of the total supply held by individuals, I would be a bit more skeptical. (But wouldn't make any claims either way with no evidence)

Boolberry is now freaking suspicious, not only it has been pumped to top of polonix volume but the attack coincided with this.
No. No fucking way. Let's stop those insinuations right here! There is no evidence that BBR has anything to do this, and you're doing XMR a huge disservice by implying this. In addition, you completely lose the right to complain about anti-Monero FUD if you spread FUD yourself. If you have any hard evidence, present it. If you don't, stop spreading FUD. It's really that simple. While I agree with you, you must admit that the trolls and hacks have created an environment of suspicion, and it is natural that the anonymous dev, for whom there is in fact a fair body of circumstantial evidence of participation in the original cryptonote implementation, should attract that suspicion. I'm hoping that CZ will dispell some of the FUD around BBR. If people frankly voice their concerns, they may be dispelled more promptly. You help by rightly observing there is a lack of material evidence for this specific suspicion, but the factors which allow suspicion to fester in the background remain, and getting them aired out may disinfect. > but the factors which allow suspicion to fester in the background remain Seems to be a CN thing then... It's not as if, to the outside observer, XMR looks immaculate (de-optimized initial mining, rather unintuitive emission curve if the goal is a broad adoption). So, splinters, brother's eyes, etc. ... I'd rather we don't go there. If there's a valid question about the competition, let's raise it (and we do so plenty enough in here). But speculative accusations serve no purpose other than to create bad blood in something that could be, in the longer term, a collaborative effort.

Are you implying you are aware of specific motivations behind the terrorist attack just less than 12 hours ago? Or are you setting up a strawman?

bash: ./simplewallet: No such file or directory Type cd ~/bitmonero/build/release/src && ls -l And look if you have a simplewallet file. If you don't, it probably means the compilation went wrong. Thus start compiling again and post the errors (or pastebin the whole text). If you do have a simplewallet file, something is very wrong here. Well, today I tried to follow instructions at monero.cc again, and now everything worked! I guess the source code was bugged earlier because I did exactly the same this time: cd ~ && rm -f install_monero.sh && wget http://monero.cc/downloads/install_monero.sh && bash install_monero.sh Thanks for the help anyway

One thing is not really clear to me and excuse me that I don't want to read all the pages of this thread. I could not find it on the website as well.
How do I recover my private key? I got a bunch of words which is representing my private key, I wrote them down and stored them, but is there any other way to look into a file on my computer to find these words again?
edit: nevermind, I restarted the client with ./simplewallet and was asked about wallet.bin

That sort of sounds like a threat. That's why I asked whether or not they had specific knowledge .. the wording is familiar.

For instance, Monero Client .NET v0.39.0-rc.2 is capable of the retrieval of mnemonic account seeds from the backup manager, utilizing rpcwallet.
