  We have problems...
& i have problem with XMR too!  Angry

2014-Sep-08 14:26:29.917842 [P2P7][176.227.205.210:28080 OUT]Sync data returned unknown top block: 208402 -> 208793 [391 blocks (0 days) behind]

You're WAY WAY WAY past the fork. If it'll make you feel better you can run the previous binaries no problem. Any issues you're encountering have NOTHING to do with the fork patch, and are likely a result of something else we can't figure out.

Here is the previous version: http://monero.cc/downloads/monero.win.x64.20140824.zip

Feel free to use it, you have no reason or obligation to stay on the latest version right now.

Well, you said the previous version worked fine for you. The new version makes sure that your blockchain is synced up to the right fork. As your blockchain is already past the fork, you can go back to the old version (that you said worked fine).

If you still have problems then it is an issue with your machine/Windows install. Have you got another machine you can try it on?

Don't use the old version and no one else should use the version either. It is exploitable, and attempts to exploit the bug in the future (which might well happen) will kick you off into your own fork even if the rest of the network doesn't follow along.

However, if you want, go ahead and test it to see whether that makes a difference. If it makes a difference to whatever problem you are having, please let us know. If not then, please get rid of the old version and never use it again.

means that the port 18080
is in use
bitmonerod can not use it
and then
the program has ended
probably because you have
an open bitmonerod
in addition to what you want to open

for the dev team
you can not enter if the default port is busy
then automatically bitmonerod
test on another?
until it finds one?
or put a notice in these errors to be more
explanatory

you may already have bitmonerod running or another process is listening on port 18080. do a ps to check if bitmonerod is running. if it's not then there is something else listening on port 18080.

According to fluffypony, there's a good chance that a fix (per KB fees) will be ready in the near future.

I think you may still have a permissions problem - when you shared the folder it fixed some of the problem but not all of it. Have you tried running bitmonerod.exe as administrator yet? (Right-click bitmonerod.exe and select the "Run as Admin" option")

I wonder who was the first to provide the solution? CN devs seemed to come up with the solution somewhat faster. Although, if you think about it, it doesn't really matter who was the first. All I'm worried about is what if the next attack will be more sophisticated than the previous. That blockchain split was pretty scary I must say. Turns out Monero has some crafty rivals.

We came up with the solution very quickly (actually I was able to diagnose the function that had the problem within an hour or two of the attack).

The CN devs walked in with their solution about 25 minutes after we published code on IRC. Amusingly, ByteCoin was also modifying the file where the bug was approximately two weeks ago. Kind of curious, isn't it?

Code:

I'm really impressed by the DEVS response to the attack. I hope the price dipps so I can buy back in. Smiley

Have you sold all your XMR holdings in the wake of the attack? Wink

No I sold when price dipped to 38 awhile ago and have been watching to buy back in during a dip. Smiley

OK, I was hoping for an easy fix but not to be. Bitmonerod on Windows doesnt seem to handle file system errors very well, hence why I think the problem is somewhere there when you say it just stops responding rather than crashing.

Something else you could try is to specify a new data folder location for bitmonerod, if you create a new folder - e.g. D:\monerodata on your PC and copy blockchain.bin you can then run bitmonerod.exe with the --data-dir D:\monerodata option so it uses that instead of the default appdata\roaming. E.g. :

Code:
bitmonerod.exe --data-dir D:\monerodata\

bitmonerod isn't already running, i've been rebooting several times and it's always the same, also for something else listening on port 1080, how could this happen ? I'm only using this linux vm for xmr wallet, nothing more is installed on it..

Also, how to retreive my old wallet ? i've copied my old Tom.bin, Tom.bin.keys and Tom.bin.adress.txt on my new xmr folder where bitmonerod and simplewallet are but when i open simplewallet and i input my wallet name it told me that no such wallet exist and he's creating a new one..am i doing something wrong ?
