We can't really say how much , can we ?  If you have have 10k coin and each BTC worth 1$ it wouldn't be much for retiring of course . but if you own that amount and each BTC costs 500$ oer something , that would be more then enough . So it all depends on the price . ~ Madness its assumed price would be high.. my goal to get 1000 in cold storage 100 BTC would be enough then I guess if the price is like 2000$ . Now if you want a private jet and boat then this is another story  ~ Madness 100 btc with a price of $2000 each. What will happen if the price of goods also increased due to inflation? Wouldn't that be a problem if you solely relied on bitcoins as your retirement fund?  well said think no one consider this a problem |

It'll get stronger and stronger against dollars or whatever your local currency is. |

Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund. Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything. How many do you think I would need to buy?
It depends what you mean by live confortably and where; it depends on how the world will be in 20 years. Try 4 BTC, some gold and a third investment not to put all your eggs in the same basket. |

As much, as possible Nobody knows how much BTC will cost for 20 years Don't rely only on btc as a retirement fund because as to what you just said, nobody knows how much btc will cost in the next 20 years. Maybe it will lose its value, so instead of focusing your retirement fund on btc, why not try to diversify your investments? |

But having bitcoin around with the price increase, it will surely offset any effect of inflation, that is... the rise in the price of bitcoin is more than the increase caused by inflation. I think diversification is still the best option here, whether it is precious metal, property but definitely bitcoin qualifies as one in the investment portfolio. |

As Voorhees stated, bitcoin prediction is pretty much binary.
In 20 years 1 bitcoin is either worth $0 or a very high number ($100,000?).
My position in bitcoin is a bet on bitcoin becoming mainstream (>$100,000/BTC).

Too many folks are stuck in the present when it comes to perspective. I remember reading in 2010 a guy was trying to obtain some coins on the Bitcoin OTC market. No one was willing to deal with him so someone gave him 2000 coins out of pity. Only five years ago they were effectively worthless. If 10 million decided they needed 2 coins in their life that would be impossible to fulfill. There's still a humongous amount of upside if it really goes places. |
