According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

It all depends on the country of residence and level of income at the moment. It is also unknown what the price will be in 20 years. Maybe one or two bitcoins in 20 years will be enough Smiley

Well smart or no we will see in the future about it ,the most havent bought because out of funds ans well end of year is coming soo they spended already their money .Anyway im pretty sure with the current bitcoin value around 100 to 150bitcoins should be enought to retire.

If you hold 100 bitcoins, then you're done, no need to do anything else, but it would also depend on the value of bitcoins in the future may be 100 bitcoins would also be not enough and may be even 10 bitcoins can do the job, and it also depends on your lifestyle and your standard of living that how much bitcoins you should hold to take care of it.

Depends what you're planning to do after two years of retirement. If you're planning to buy a house by the beach and spend rest of your live drinking campaign on the shores you need to get a clear idea on how long are you planning to do this. You can live upto 30 more years and just relax rest of your life or plan to still have money or investments which will work .You can always have assets to invest in the future. All these roughly would come around 10,000 btc's? Also this guarantee's a secure future with your assets.
Well In my country about 4000-5000 is rather more than enough to do that according to the current price Grin not to mention the price when I retire
Nice! In my country around 1000 btc's are enough after retirement to live a good healthy life for about 10-20 years which average life style. Our government doesn't really provide any advantages but we can invest some money in real estate which will be four times after 5 years and the returns will be enough to relax for other 10 years.

in country even 500 with this price would be great for some peaceful retirement and enjoy

yeah 1000 is enough if you don't need a luxurious lifestyle at all. But real estate is hard to tell whether you can make profit from it because things can go wrong fast

But having 1000BTC that will take a long time. I don't know where to get that amount of bitcoin.

Oh well in my country 50 BTC is just enough I think.
earn your money in real world then buy it, save the BTC amount you earn online,... That's how you can get 1000btc I think. 50BTC in any contries is just enough to live In my opinion

no sense, if you can get 1k bitcoin right now it's mean that you are very rich already(350k + saving probably), usually those that can acquire so much bitcoin are big investor that are heavily in speculation

not certainly average joe...
heavily depends on where you from in my opinion. In my country to get 350k USD is quite a long time. my salary monthly is about 6k

Yah that is just stupid. Bitcoin well be stable around 320 dollar or more for now.

And in the future I think Bitcoin well increase even more.

Well im based into the current price ,since the most believe that bitcoin will keep growing and getting more value on the next years, soo at the moment 100btc would be enought for me to retire and be happy.

I wouldn't count on living on Thailand, do you think that place is really safe to live on the daily even if it's really cheap? It would suck having to leave and live there as a foreigner knowing no one. I hope that in 10 years something around 20 BTC is enough to live off in a USA-EUR country (or some Japanese place if the radiation hasn't ruined everything by then)

Thailand is very good place to live and also with the low cost of living, and additionally you can enjoy thai massage everyday  Cheesy I hope that they start accepting bitcoins as a mode of payment for massages, if that is the case then I would surely move to thailand, quiet cheaper then my country, So can live a lavish life there.

I think its funny if people imagine the west will remain a paradise if the banking system falls apart from all this government debt.   Many people who previously were rich off the back of the state will be roaming the streets, things could get very unpleasant.  It is possible Asia or anywhere with productive industry is better off or at least more used to modest measures, here in the west we all gorge ourselves and complain about being overweight as if this is a legitimate problem;  a realistic accounting system could make for a harsh experience and you'll wish to be abroad in more long term adjusted economies with genuine non government growth.

The big fact is that bitcoin as an retirement option there is some risk involved into it but the big fact is that bitcoin being soo volatil may be risked but well the predictions of the most is that bitcoin will start growing more when the mine process ends,or when the coins to mine became a very small ammount soo who owns a btc should see it getting more value as the time keeps passing.Into 30 years some of us wont be here but may be when bitcoin will be everywhere ,and knowed by all at once.

This is a pretty debatable question but I would say anywhere from 50+ bitcoins would put you in a very good and comfortable situation. Since bitcoins are finite in number, once these bitcoins are mined and allocated to a certain number of people, you won't be able to acquire them as easily. I wouldn't be surprised if .01 = $100 in the next few years.

you could be right on this considering everything that will happen in 10 years (2 halving at least) and some economic changes and so on
price can be big and you can retire

I think this depends if you're going to exchange your bitcoins or not. If not then you can retire right now. If you are going to exchange then it really just depends on the value of bitcoin in 20 years.
