Is there anyway to tell if your P2pool actually hit a block?  Will the log file show anything like this if a local miner found one?

Are you using the default front end or one of the other front ends like extended or one I am using (can't remember the name), the extend front end has a list of last blocks, that list shows you the blocks you are working on. If no blocks appear then you are not working on any.

I like it, it is very clean. 

I will have to wait until I move to a new place to start my own P2Pool again. Need to get lots of Enterprise hardware.

I like it, it is very clean. 

I will have to wait until I move to a new place to start my own P2Pool again. Need to get lots of Enterprise hardware.

Does someone know how the fee system should work on p2pool?

I'm running a p2pool node which has some active miners on it.
I've setup a fee using "--address xxxxxxxxxx --fee 1"

The client is running without wallet, so I set an adrress from another wallet.
This address shows up when I start p2pool, so that looks fine.

Should you get a 1% fee everytime the miners are paid? I haven't received any fee yet, while the active miners have received their share payments.
Or will this fee be paid on a daily base? I got the feeling something is setup wrong.

No the fee is not based on the bitcoin payout, it's based on the shares.

Would be nice if the P2pool server could update itself or at least tell the operator that there is an update available so he or she can decide when to take server offline and patch it.

It isn't intuitive, but each share a miner submits to you has a 1% chance of becoming your share instead. So you'll see a lot of variance in your pool fee income, but long-term it should even out (at the expense of higher variance for the miner as well).

Maybe one day p2pool will allow the fee amount to be recorded in the share, like the donation amount is, so it can be paid exactly when each share is paid and all shares remain with the miner.

Hi!

Followed instructions to setup p2pool on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS VM - started without any problems (to avoid bitcoind DB sync I just copied existing database from the other server). The only one thing which failed was one time donation - bitcoind complained about insufficient funds, because the
wget -O- http://SERVER_IP:9332/patron_sendmany/5.0

returned JSON with a lot of addresses and sums for them, but I have only one miner connected! Why so many addresses?

I verified payout address - it is ok:

Pointed my miner (75Gh avg) to my pool. After a while graphs shows ~6.0 mBTC in the "Current payout to default address" section, but the pool balance still is zero. Is this a glitch or hidden/donated payouts?

That amount is how much money for -fee is in the Payouts list, I think. Remember that -fee doesn't provide a steady commission on all node income, but it gives you that % of the pool shares randomly. So you'll see variance in the node income even if the miner shares are steady.

Yes, the merge mining income goes to the local wallet for the node. If you are going to pay that to users you need to set something up to handle that yourself.

Problem is:

I wanted to set up a p2pool for An altcoin.
Seems altcoin has no height defined.

Can solve this by merging it, but not as primary coin.

Users of he community want to be payed in that altcoin. So..

Not that I know of. Maybe someone else can chime in. Remember p2pool is intended for each miner to run themselves.

Aha, thanks for the explanation. But why the initial payout contained a lot of address? Just because those addresses are in the queue, which is shared between p2pool nodes? By the other words, it is possible that my address will be in this list for something other who decided to bring up the p2pool node?
