I think it boils down to usability and the fear of losing money due to bitcoin's volatility. Right now, there really is no point in using bitcoin if you're just a regular individual. You have fiat money and you have been perfectly fine since day one. Why the sudden switch to using bitcoin, right? I think crypto is really useful to people who sends money online. The fees are just a lot less especially when you have to transfer abroad. Other than that, is there really anything else? There isn't much reasons for a regular individual to use bitcoins. If I wasn't making money from the Internet, I probably would have stayed away from bitcoin and have focused in other things instead. We need the merchants to start accepting bitcoins. The next thing, people are afraid that they are going to buy bitcoins and then wake up the next day that the price have become really low. It's very unlikely for that to happen but it still can happen. To solve this, people should realize what volatility is and how can they be in profit even with the market going down. They have to understand the concept behind it to understand that it's a normal thing to happen. On the other hand, what's the fuss anyway since we're making money from bitcoin and we don't need non-tech savvy people asking dumb questions here.

When will people spend BTC as easily as fiat , not seeing it as an investment opportunity but a better currency for them to use ? Most of my friends that I have currently told about Bitcoin are most intrigued by its rapid rate of growth and not its outstanding features as a currency. They don't really care that it is free from government control , but are more focused on the fact that it has risen xy% I don't really spend much of my Bitcoin , because I am always in fear. I am not talking about cashing out , but for digital goods. How do you spend 10 mBTC on a 5$ digital good when you believe that the same 10mBTC is worth atleast 15$ , probably more. How much of your Bitcoin have you hoarded , and how much have you really spent ?
I am under the impression that people tend to hoard more with BTC than with fiat , considering it an investment more than a currency I don't know how to make a poll here , so :- http://strawpoll.me/1793917This is not referring to your blockchain.info statistic , which includes money you have moved around. I am looking at money you have truly spent vs total amount of BTC you have received. Overall , I'm trying to look at how much my guess is true by the poll and your estimates of when majority of people will start looking at BTC as a currency. EDIT : I'm not sure this is the right section , tell me if this should go in General Discussion or so. There are only few stores and businesses in all over the world that are accepting bitcoins. The digital society will only occur if many people in our society are using digital currencies.

Like other said , i feel comfortable too using this coin . I think the others are afraid because the price is going down but if you see the important of using of this many people want this. For me its makes my life easier and i want more bitcoin to hold and profit in trading.
Well if you are well versed and have perfect information about the technology, you will not feel insecure in the Bitcoin business. Besides, price fluctuation is a temporary phase and happens in every market. This should not be considered as the end of Bitcoin. We had a down market since the start of the year and it started recovering in July so keeping this in mind, one can feel that the market has inbuilt abilities approach back to equilibrium position thereby restoring the gap in the fall. Speculation also influences the demand pattern and Bitcoin is expected to rise beyond $20000 towards the end of the year. Absolutely! Many are already comfortable using bitcoin, specially those who are fully-aware and educated about its nature and on how to deal with it. But for some who are doubtful and have misconceptions about the technology, they are still uncomfortable using it. They fear volatility, risks, and losses they may encounter upon joining the community or in the market, and also its wide adoption. With the current state of the market, and the developing economy of bitcoin, still there are many people who are not comfortable using it, but I'm still very hopeful that at the course of time, demand will increase, they will be enlightened, and be more educated.

If we compare crypto with concepts like cards and all, crypto is still new. This will take time but it will establish itself as a payment system.

There needs to be a lot of improvement for that to happen. First thing is that volatility in prices should stop.

It will never happen.
People never feel comfortable when they use gold.
It is the same with bitcoin.

When big companies such as food chains or supermarkets and department stores starts accepting bitcoin as an alternative form of payment, people will then start using bitcoin. It may be hard to replace fiat, but it can co-exist with it. It all depends on when it will go mainstream, really.

It is not easy as on two three to use btc as a form of currency like what you expect it to be and to be used by everyone. First is it's not that popular especially to those people who are below average in terms of income. Second is the volatility of btc, markets don't want to accept something that is very volatile and has a probability to lose the profit of their store.

People will feel comfortable using bitcoin when it is legal in any country and have his value in the market a stable one like a local currency that we have in our country just like a USD currency with a stable currency. And the government establishments and company will allow it to use as a currency that we can use as a payment in any transaction that we buy and sell.

everybody would be happy with utilizing bitcoin obviously that is when everybody can acknowledge the presence of bitcoin to fill in as an exchange apparatus. I say that since I don't figure everybody can acknowledge the presence of bitcoin on the grounds that I don't figure everybody can completely comprehend the universe of crypto so they will contemplate utilizing fiat monetary forms as when all is said in done.

I think most people use bitcoin because of its freedom to pay peer to peer with banking system or being monitored by government agencies or other hidden parties also the blockchain transparency where everything is clear to everyone .

I think the time people feel comfortable using BTC or another cypto is when crypto become stable. They can not feel happy when today the price of BTC is 10k $ but in tomorrow its price is 8k $. Crypto is the new and young market and i think it need more time to becom balance and stable to familiar with people

Actually it is we who are making the Bitcoin so volatile and it is irrelevant if we are grumbling now because low market conditions are our own deeds. If we stop panic selling in low market then the Bitcoin can not stop in increasing its value. As long as the liquidity is decreasing means that participants are decreasing then we will be standing in unfavorable conditions like we are currently in.

If many countries are using this system and the society accepts it. It will also be possible if bitcoin is just used for its real purpose, to become a currency and not to use for earning. Another thing is that bitcoin must need to be more stable because it will hurt a lot of users if it is too volatile.

Knowing the fact that bitcoin was already banned for some countries and its name is being destroyed by many nowadays, it would really take up a long time before everyone gets comfortable using it. Maybe if we are just going to keep on supporting it and wait, time may come where we'll all experience the use of bitcoin at its finest wherein it is already used by everyone around the world.

Why would people spend something that can buy you more in future instead holding it. By holding they create dearth of supply which leads to more push of the price. Moreover, there isn't much merchant support to BTC which also limits its use in daily transactions.

In my opinion, people will be comfortable using Bitcoin when our government would allow us to use it as money. We all know that the Governement is quite threaten by bitcoin because they know its real potential in the market and specially in the market someday.
