Meh. All the dial-up internet companies thought the same thing until cable/dsl shit on them. IBM thought the same thing too until HP/DELL/Gateway shit on them. Ford/Chevy thought the same thing until Honda/Toyota shit on them. Technology is an ever evolving industry. This space in particular is moving faster than anything I've ever seen. It's harder for bitcoin to innovate and cater to different markets vs a lean altcoin. A lightweight operation like Cloakcoin can develop and test brand new features that are light years ahead of bitcoin without having massive investor/developer/miner backlash.
IMO, what you'll eventually see is the emerging of cryptocurrencies that represent cash (Cloak/Mixcoin/etc) and ones that replicate credit cards/checks etc (Bitcoin/Litecoin). Both having their place in commerce and individuals who prefer one over the other. Not to mention commodity based coins which could represent entire industries. Later down the road looking at coin specific industries one might be able to tell how that market is doing giving the volume via exchanges or another metric. For someone to say "Bitcoin has won" I doubt they understand technology trends or how crypto will affect industries. We're only beginning to scratch the surface here.
Becoming a market leader requires investors who believe in the product and the vision. Some people got out of Bitcoin at $1, some at $10 and some at $100. The people who made the most money are the ones that held for the long term. Cloak's ecosystem makes you think twice about dumping at an ATH because of all the value added services we have coming down the pipeline. I really don't know how to break it down further to anyone who thinks $10 is a reasonable price for crypto with trustless anon. If you think that then you obviously haven't been in the anon space for very long. Anoncoin has been working on trustless anon for almost a year now. Darkcoin for over 8 months.. I could honestly see this coin going well beyond the $100 mark for what is being developed here. Once this ball is moving the dev team is just going to get bigger and bigger and more shit will happen alot faster. Faster than anyone can clone this.
That pretty much summarizes how I think about Crypto in general and Cloak in specific. Where not even at the internet stage. We are BBS'ing. Anybody remember Fidonet ? Cloak's roadmap is the potential killer app. Market in particular. With the supply of coins and no miners to dump on us it is up to us holders to define the value of Cloak

found this on another thread.... Altcoins are only good for making quick bucks at the beginning when they're released. That "launch/hype" momentum very rarely comes back and in the case of Vertcoin, I think something big big must happen so it breaks this downtrend. When I say big I do think of things like Bitcoin successfully 51% attacked, together with people massively moving to altcoins. Do I think something big will happen? Mostly no, but there's always a small chance. You see, even stealth addresses didn't help Vertcoin's value, and it's almost that I can't think of any bigger event related to Vertcoin's development. Maybe acceptance among darknet markets, but somehow I do think they will accept Darkcoin instead, even Monero, they're kind of more anonymous oriented than Vert. History is repeating with every altcoin: initial hype and rise and then slow and painful death. Bitcoin is so strong that it seems it already won cryptocurrency war, and it can even be anonymous if you're using it through Tor. Seems like no other coin has so much better properties which would help dethrone Bitcoin. Made some good bucks with DRK and XMR, but in the case of Vertcoin it seems like I came late to the party, lost like 15k $ already and I do think it maybe is even good time to exit, even with loses because generally I do think when one altcoin starts to decline - 99% of the time it's declining to death, and it's not just the case with Vertcoin, it's the case with every altcoin no matter how good it is. Maybe, and just maybe we can count on rise of altcoins in next Bitcoin bubble which really should happen soon. That's the cryptocurrency game in my eyes right now... Bitcoin already won, altcoins are good only if you catch them at the beginning the decline seems scary Meh. All the dial-up internet companies thought the same thing until cable/dsl shit on them. IBM thought the same thing too until HP/DELL/Gateway shit on them. Ford/Chevy thought the same thing until Honda/Toyota shit on them. Technology is an ever evolving industry. Most of these alts pump and die because they offer nothing besides a new name and logo. Most are rip offs of other successful coins and warrant no value. The coins that innovate go to the top. Vertcoin died because it is a gpu coin and gpu mining is DEAD. I sold my gpus a long time ago as did many other miners. When the profits are less than the electricity costs, people are going to pull the plug. Looks like the alt community has pulled the plug on VRT.
*cough* much wow, very doge *cough*

I have a big problem with alts that do nothing to further cryptocurreny as a technology. There is no reason for them to exist. I'm afraid that most of the poor bastards who glommed onto Doge didn't know better. Jackson Palmer did it as a joke and an experiment in marketing. He didn't actually expect it to blow up like it did. Now that he's out of the picture it's basically turned into Moolah coin. I really feel bad for all the people who bought in at the insane levels during the first part of the year. I'm not trying to talk shit or FUD about Doge. It's just the situation there as I see it.

Yup, that person nailed it. It's also pretty bad when the creator of the coin jumps ship because the community is too much like a cult.

That doesn't explain the meteoric tanking of the price of their coin despite the block reward constantly cutting in half. Look at Litecoin vs Doge.. both have ASIC's. Litecoin's value hasn't suffered nearly as bad (yes.. it's suffered.. but nothing like Doge).

Whereas doge is more like pogs. Abundant and useless but kids find value in the fun of it.

me lol i think 100dollar is posible wen its posa real posa and onemarket
Don't be delusional. I would be happy with a $10 price, which is what DRK hit at its (more or less stable) peak. I think Dark hit closer to 20... Yep. DRK hit close to $20 with the promise of an anon protocol that wasn't trustless. This is the 1st implementation of trustless anon. @eatenbyargue you would be delusional to think we can't hit those heights. Again, ^^^^ what this guys says^^^^. 20 bucks with HOPES of having anon, this coin if all goes as planned will be THE FIRST AND ONLY ANON COIN that is 100% anon. Not sure why most people don't even know this, but it is going to be only anon coin on market.

For those of you NOT in the IRC channel, Alty just confirmed that they have SUCCESSFULLY tested MORE POSA today! If you do NOT think this is the time to buy as much as your pockets allow, you're fooling nobody but yourself!
