I don't like that each S3 is going to require 4 PCI-E cables.

The EVGA Supernova 1300G2 is a super PSU that is able to run 3 overclocked S1s, but will not be able to run 3 S3s without buying 4 more PCI-E cables that have 2 PCI-E end connectors each.

I suppose the next best option would be to use EVGA Supernova 1000G2 PSUs, which should come will all the cables required to run 2 S3s.

Does anyone have any other PSU ideas to power 3 S3s?

The way I was going to do it was to run the 8 pcie to straight 6pin pcie with adapter from eBay and for the other terminal a dual sata to 6pcie also from eBay, this way your not putting too much current by spitting the 6pcie as you suggested and the sata and 8pins are on different locations in the psu thus less chance off overload

I am planning to use PCIe splitters for EVGA 1300. Since each PCI slot will have only 97.5W load, I think that this is ok.
Like these:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-PCIEXSPLIT6-6-Inch-Express-Splitter/dp/B004NNTVT6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1403821996&sr=8-5&keywords=pcie+split

there are also cheaper brands on ebay.

No way i will be buying another PSU-I have plenty already.

S2 shipping delayed again. Site now says 28th... We need something Bitmain. The ROI is to high without a coupon on the S2.

Bitmain is doing it the right way. They are not taking payments before they can deliver. If there's a delay, I want it to be before I send payment, not after!

Amen brother!

Interesting, so you will be using three types of output cords:PCIe, 8pin and sata, then use 8pin to pcie and sata to pcie adapters.
Unless someone tells me that 8pin cannot be split into two PCIe connectors, each carrying just 87.5W for a total wattage going through 8-pin of 195W, I'll probably use this.

Seasonic 1000W Platinum has 4 independent PCI-E connectors on a single 12v rail...Has been IRON for my needs...

Price is the only concern...$200+... Grin

EDIT...:

Should be good for 2 S3...not 3...

How would something like this work with a few PCIE splitters?

Do they make a splitter to get more PCIE cables off the larger ATX power plug?

Its two 700W Dell PSUs running on the server power backplane.

Im considering using this that I built for a never shipped BFL order
or just selling it if I dont buy any BITMAIN S3.

Yea, splitters are OK, but the ones I've seen have been pretty cheap and use thin wires, which could be a fire hazard.

After thinking about it a bit more, it's going to be very unlikely that any 1300W PSU will come with 12 PCI-E connectors out of the box, which would be overkill for almost any application except powering 3 S3s.

I bring the 1000 Watt discussion in case I wanted to overclock my S3. Since the Max output is 550 watt, 1000W won't be enough to feed 2 overclocked S3.

Even if i can overclock them to 500Watt each max.

I will get the EVGA 1300. I have not intention to try to feed 3 S3 with one PSU, unless I am about to underclock them.

EDIT: I wish we knew how far we can push them

I have a spare cx600 and this is exactly what I was going to do as well, but why dual sata to single pcie? Wouldn't 1 to 1 adapter be fine and not have any issue?

DO NOT BUY THESE ASICS!!! I keep telling you people!

Right now, at 13.4 billion difficulty, a 500 Ghash miner will get you 0.01868 BTC per day!  That's it!

And when the difficulty adjusts to 17.1 BILLION in 3 days, it will make 0.01471 BTC per day!

As of now it'll be 16.6 in 2.5 days.

Wondering if a 1000 Watt PSU will be enough for 2 S3 ... (Overlocked)

On the higher side: As per my calculation maximum power consumption is 550W.
If overclocking is possible with low percentage of hardware error to such an extend then 1000Watts PSU is just not enough to handle 2 S3.
But in practical case, I mean a fair overclocking, a good 80 plus PSU can easily handle 2 S3s.
If that 1000W psu is not yet brought consider buying 1200W PSU.
PSUs are not worthless at the end, it will follow you for many year unlike ASICs miners.

I'm just wondering if we will be able to push them that much since it's the max. If we take the S1 in consideration, i'm running mine at around 420 watt and two of them on a Corsair RM 1000. I wanted to get one for my S3.

Is EVGA any good ? I can get a 1300Watt (80 plus gold) if i add 20$.

Thanks Wink

i can run 3 s-1 on the evga 1300 pulls 1215 watts at freq 393 hashes at 600 for the 3

We don't even know the price of the S3 yet. Bitmain was able to sell the S2 for around $250 shipped and still make a profit, and I would expect that their cost to product the S3 would be similar to what it cost them to produce the S1.

I'm sure Bitmain could get very aggressive with pricing if they wanted to, although the first batch will probably be overpriced. People tend to overpay for shiny new hardware.

Also, as we saw with the S2, it's also more of a gamble to buy the first batch of anything. It may take Bitmain a batch or two before they get all the kinks worked out.

Hash power improvement on hardware can't keep up with the diff.

As someone said above, no ROI, no care. And it looks like it will be the case.

you sir are likely correct....er due to bank issues...i'm a legal miner in usa (sigh) have to pay for mining profits
as income (gross income 25% taxes like the rest) er those of you not in my boat run away till hopefully they
fix these IRS guidelines from 2013 to something more sensible in 2015 (i think they will..just say at that point
2015 gee IRS it was a very very good year if you wan to report) heh Smiley

anyway MY ONLY angle is that I can get off 25% in real $$$ towards actual taxes paid thru equip
depreciation (and have credits on such from last year) so i got a spondoolies sp30

w/o being in my situation it makes NO SENSE to get equip in the foreseeable future imho in order for BTC
to survive this massive equip dump and difficulty rise the price MUST go up for BTC thru increased
demand or we are all in trouble

and yes I may barely break even on the sp30 ROI wise due to my above (sigh so lonely) position of er ahem
being a legal miner (i feel so dirty)...but i suspect after all is said and done and it probably will end of life
by Dec 2014 at the rate of equip dump i will take a loss

so yeah any equip you buy at this time thru fall will likely be a loss vs just buying btc imho ...it may level
off etc after fall but I think it is gonna get really really ugly this last 1/2 of the year

but then again they are such 'cute' little boxes..the s3's ...nice whirly sounds...pretty LCD's so cuddly .

ack must resist ..its a trap ack

Hash power improvement causes the diff. People think more hash is better and get proved wrong every diff rise.

What you need to aim for is the most BTC per kWh. but that doesn't fit the more hash is better mindset.

S2 shipped for $250 WHERE?  If so Ill take 2 right now.

Any PSU experts looking here?
Id like to take that DELL PSU setup and run some of these possibly.

It only has one PCIE plug though and one more unknown plug that breaks out to SATA power.

Can you get adapters to go from the 24pin, I THINK, to fan out to multiple PCIE plugs?

Thanks

Are there any trustworthy group buys yet for the S3?

Throw some caution to the wind here:

Waldohoover has a long, distinguished history of setting up various Group Buys, so I'm pretty sure he can be trusted.

We are working on a GB but that can be announced when we know shipping dates and prices.

Regards

Juan

Can I come to your house and drink some tea and check out your s3?
