My 10 S3s are up and running.  3 of the 10 are averaging closer to 420 Gh/s.

[Can you supply the part number for the buck regulator component? It's not the big grey square, that's a coil - instead it'll be a small IC right beside and will have a code (or codes) written in ridiculously small letters which indicate the part and manufacturer. Someone in the S3 is going to research to see if we can replace?

http://www.ti.com/product/tps53355

same type as the S1/S2 and bitfury units both used. Its a good chip that can handle up to 35-40A if cooled and from a good batch.

MATH TIME

original spec: 32 chips running at 0.75V producing 15.75GH each = 504GH at 390W
you have 2 chips per TPS53355 regulator, 16 regulators total. 480A available at 30A draw

480*0.75 = 360W (assumes other 30W is the pair of 15W fans and the controller)  This was what Bitmain assumed would work

my guess is that either the chips are slightly less efficient than thought, perhaps drawing closer to 420W at 504GH. (420W total, or 560A, or 35A which is a point where not all regulators will be stable). Alternatively, the chip voltage is less than 0.75, thus drawing more amps. 35A draw would happen at 360W, 0.643V.  A combination of both factors is also possible.

gentlemen, start your multimeters!

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

My batch 1 order still not yet shipped !

Same here actually I ordered 2014-07-01 04:43:23, and am seeing people getting their orders. No new update other than just wait for my order. I spoke to bitmain and basically just got told that I have to wait until they ship it. I expected orders to ship on the date they stated. This was a 2x S3s B1 order.

If you take a close look at the control board, you may notice a small uFL connector on the upper right hand corner of the board.  If this connector is wired up, and the firmware supports it, it would be pretty easy to add an uFL to SMA cable to wire up an antenna!  This would be good news for people like me who need wifi.

Wifi works. Check it out:

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet... but the S3 has wireless.  I've got mine in hand, saw the wifi tab, figured I would try it out.  Bam!

So, while I don't see any place to hook in an antenna, having it sitting right next to my router, that's kind of irrelevant.

Thank you for showing us the bare Antminer S3. The design is more professional now.
A thumps up for removing the heatsink, first I though it was leaking thermal paste.
Have you checked the DC-DC converter temperature?
I'm sure that you will overclock and give us a report.

is it safe to leave the thermal paste around the chip?
or should we wipe it?

Overvolting to 0.8v should be fine to have 10% extra hashing.
It will draw something like 450watt at the wall. 400watt before the PSU.
That makes slightly over 31A load on each regulator. With proper cooling, it should be OK.
You will be able to clock at 275 and 14ms delay.

0.85v will be too high load: 640A divided over the 16 regulators will be 40A per regulator.

Hopefully, my S3 will arrive next week so I'll be able to test.

For those who would want to reduce power draw in a few months, 0.72v will draw 270watt at wall while hashing at 430-440 GH/s

They are drawing 370watt each at the wall, should be 330 before the PSU. it will be very close to the limits of your PSU.
660watt should be 88% of the rated power for your PSU.
I usually like to stay around 80%.

Well, if limit is 750W and at the wall the draw 370 each, mmmm yeah thats 740W, you sure its 370 each?or can be less?i mean without OC of course.

I have right now 2 corsair CX750W and i bought 2 S3 , but i want to buy 2 more maybe, so i would like to use 2 S3 on each one of the corsair

u guys better buy the 850w or higher one
so the PSU wont be running like crazy to fullfill the 740w
corsair always lower their max watt of PSU, so they'll achieve the higher efficiency
but that doesnt mean, we should use it to the fullest,
the worst case is PSU will burned...
u'll buy a new PSU to replace this one... maybe RMA, but either one, u'll have to buy new one to run ur S3
so... its really a waste of money again...

if you dont have that many cash
take the TX, HX edition, buy used one
i bought used one (about 4years), still kicking right now...  Grin

My batch 1 order 2014-06-30 21:40 is still unshipped as well.

Cheers

They have to Thoroughly "Test" the units before shipping.   How else do you get weeks of dust accumulation on  your "new" units.  ;-P
