In the morning DHL delivered me three Antminer S3-s, I was in the batch 1 ordered the very first moment.
I ordered for two but in the packet there where three S3s.Maybe a bonus from BitMainTech or an accident?
Anyhow, there were no customs duty for me. I don't know why. DHL simply dropped in my place.
As they advertised, there should have a cover for the miner for air flow control, But in my three S3-s the cover was missing.
Also, one of them was little dirty and the fans came with dirt. The other two were brand new. The dirty one may be the S3 they used first for testing.
After all, the dimension of S3 is smaller than S1 and the body is build with plastic instead of metal. It weighs less than 500gms.
Its working hard on my desk, silently, there is no vibration due to the additional 4 rubber standoffs attached in the base
otherwise, due to low weight the noise of S3 vibrating on my desk may not be bearable.
Its hashing fine at 478/366. Overall a very good deal.

Todays was a pleasant morning, I was happy when I woke up, I got a good deal from BitMain, all credits to them.
Suddenly, I realised that, my pre-orders are still waiting for BitMainTech to ship. The hard think I realised, all the above was a dream.
So, much fun!

Ugh..  A$$-Hat...  "Look at me, Look at Me"

I think I saw someone earlier saying that it is p2pool compatible? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are wrong.

Let me clarify this to save any more confusion about p2pool compatibility:

I have verified with Bitmain via email conversations that the current Bitmain firmware for both the S2's & S3's does not work with p2pool effectively or efficiently. I have also supplied Bitmain with information gathered from myself & many p2pool users as well as Kano (cgminer dev) & forrestv (p2pool dev, supposedly) in an effort to help Bitmain find a fix, and have also offered to help in any beta testing if required. This was done over two weeks ago, and there has been no news since then. Therefore, anyone wishing to buy Bitmain hardware for use with p2pool should wait until Bitmain have provided a fix, if they do.

Peace  Smiley

Isn't there a thread for P2Pool? Just how lonely are you guys, all day long talking crap about P2Pool. When(IF) P2Fool FW does come out I am sure you all will be the 4th or 5th to know. Gezz and to think I was going to try P2Fool, that is until I realized you had to become an annoying prick to use it.

Can we not get a new part sent out later and fit it ourselves ?

If your competent with a solder iron and playing with pcb's/components that is !!

If DC-DC limit is the only then we can buy a new DC-DC converter from local market.
Fixing it in place of the current DC-DC converter will not become a problem for most.
I assume most of the miners can DIY that.
For all that, we need some more information or clarification regarding this limitation or instability.

its really not that simple. Swapping an inductor with only two pads might be reasonably simple, but the DC-DC is usually more complex.

The S1 used the 30A TPS53355 which had 10 or 12 pins IIRC, and a very small footprint. It would need smd tools to switch out and only for a pin-compatible replacement (if there are any over 30A). Sounds like the S3 either doesnt heatsink this component very well or that they went with a less expenswive 25A-30A regulator that does not push as high as a texas instruments regulator can.

potential solution: increase the chip voltage slightly to decrease the amperage of the regulator. (ie: if chip runs at 0.7V, 30A [21w of power use] it may be possible to turn the voltage up slightly to 0.8V at 21w (or 26A) to provide the amperage headroom to overclock a little bit extra, but at the expense of efficiency)

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

Hello everyone,

When we were doing the first mass production, we found that not all of the S3’s DC/DC module could be stable enough to support the 478GH/s speed. After long time testing, all of the S3 run stably at 441GH/s, which however is 7.7% less than the 478GH/s we have announced.

So we decide the final specification of ANTMINER S3 here:

Hash Rate: 441 GH/s or more
Power Consumption: about 340 Watt at the wall when running at 441GH/s
Power Efficiency: 0.77 J/GH on wall
Power Supply: 12V DC
Size:  331 mm x 137 mm x 160 mm
Fans: Two 14038 fans mounted on both front and back ends.
Operating Temperature: 0 °C to 35 °C
Complied with: FCC / CE
Network Connection: Ethernet

Many of the customers may be lucky to find that their S3 can be overclocked to 478GH/s.

We apologize for this incident. We offer two options for customers:

1)   10.0% worth of coupon for the B1~B3 customers. This is the default option. (10% based on what you have paid for the B1~B3)
2)   7.7% worth of refund. We will release a function on our official website for application of this option. If you have bought from our resellers, please contact them and provide your Bitcoin address.

Shipping schedule updated:

Batch 1: The shipping will be finished in 14th and 17th.
Batch 2: It will be shipping out between 18th and 19th.
Batch 3: It will be shipping out between 19th and 22nd.

Dear Mr Bitmain

Thank you for being honest and upfront with us and generous with your compensation.

I have many S1's and a few S2's humming away in the background as I write this, all of
these units have performed very well and I have been extremely happy with them.

Regarding the S3 compensation, we in Australia have a law that items under AUD$1000
comes into the country without paying customs fees and taxes, once we go over AUD$1000
then fees and taxes kick in and we have to pay around $220 extra in fees and taxes.

This may apply to other countries as well, I am not sure

The price of 2 X S3 comes in at just on that AUD $1000 limit, when I ordered batch 1, I worked out
the price at AUD$990, but this fluctuates with currency and BTC price movements.

Are you going to reduce the purchase price for customs declarations because of this compensation?

Because I would prefer the coupons but if the declared value is over $1000 then I would prefer
the 7.7% price decrease to keep the total dollar amount under the $1000 limit, could you please
advise how much you are now going to declare the value of these S3's now

thanks again for your great products

+1  I added a note on my order, to reflect the value at order time.  Note that while the shipping is 'free', that would have some value/cost, so even with BTC to AUD fluctuations, the actual value of 2 S3's would fall under the customs threshold.

Cheers

PS.  My batch #1 order is still 'unshipped'

And NO SHIPPING notice YET!!
You'll probably see the status change from 'unshipped' to 'shipped' with the tracking information when you logon to your account at Bitmaintech's web site.

Bitmain said that batch 1 would be shipped 14 to 17 of July.

Cheers

The worst thing happened. Here are my concerns:
So, no more overclocking like earlier said 504Ghs/390Watts not even 478 possible for all. No more overclocking fun.

On the contrary, we know the chip potential is there and we just need to cool the right components enough (tolerance and stability will go up with lower temps). Time to bring out the arctic winter, though the delivery time is a bit longer than id want on that one :/

Adding additional heatsinks to the DCDCs should improve efficiency (by a small amount) and might make them more stable at higher currents.

I guess I will try that out once they arrive.

I have that PSU, and if its 340W / S3 for 444 GH/s without OC i dont see how you cant run two S3 with 1 Corsair CX750M. Its 680W total and maximun its 750

Because its worth it to do OC till 478 GH/s if you are lucky and you can? for just 34 more GH/s ?? or better not to? . I think i wont do OC because i prefer 444 GH/s @340W

Actually, it is much less moronic to "trust" a decentralized p2p mining pool than your average centralized one. (Both in terms of network security and handling payouts)

Anyway, I support the motion to call you names if you are really bitching about people that want promised information about a product in the thread of that product.
