PoS interest: 20% annually
Will this be changed at some point? Seems pretty high, especially compared to other PoS coins.
20% PoS leads to a 4-5% inflation rate. In other words, minters earn 20% but the money supply only increases at the rate of 5%. Hondo calls this phenomenon "fractional staking": Typically only about 25% of the money supply for a given Proof-of-Stake (PoS) coin is subject to continuous staking. This "fractional staking" leads to (1) gains for those who stake (minters) and (2) losses for those who don't (non-minters). Fractional staking therefore results in wealth transfer from non-minters to minters because inflation of the money supply is lower than it would be if the entirety of the money supply were continuosly staked. To understand how wealth is transferred, it is helpful to quantify wealth as an individual's ownership of the total money supply of a given coin. For example, if an individual holds 1000 coins of a money supply of 100,000, then the individual's wealth is quantified as 1%. The following example uses a 20% APY as an example because this value typically leads to a reasonable inflation rate of about 5% per year, given that all coins are subject to approximately the same fractional staking of 25%. Note the following values: - Total money supply after 1 year: 105% (5% inflation)
- Relative number of coins after one year for a minter: 120% (20% APY)
- Relative number of coins after one year for a non-minter: 100%
Using these values, the relative wealth of a minter after one year is 114% (120% / 105%). In other words, a minter who stakes continuously grows wealth at the rate of 14% per year. Thus, a minter of a coin with a 20% APY doesn't just keep up with inflation, but beats it by 14%! On the other hand, a non-minter loses wealth over time. After a year, a non-minter's total coins is 100% of what it was at the beginning of the year. Therefore, a non-minter's drops to 95.2% during this time, losing wealth at the rate of 5% per year. It is also possible to calculate a non-minter's losses in terms of forgone profits, which is 19.7% ([114% - 95.2%] / 95.2%). Thus, a non-minter could have nearly 20% more wealth if they had staked their coins ([114% - 95.2%] / 95.2%). Not coincidentally, these lost profits are approximately equal to the nominal APY.

In the spirit of more frequent updates, here's what's been going on: 1. I got an 8 core linux box to expedite development of StealthSend and some of the other technologies we are working on. I've not only set up the OS, but have finished a basic development environment on it. I'm happy I did it, because this baby is FAST! Much faster than the 2006 iMac I've been using for the last 8 years. To ensure this development environment works correctly, I made a 64 bit linux build of the StealthCoin wallet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8rWObF4xz1YdFNOX1NXSjBvYWM/edit?usp=sharingIf you've got a 64 bit linux box, give it a try. Just unzip it and run the "Stealth Qt" program inside the bundle folder. I tested it on a fresh XUbuntu install with absolutely no extra dependencies installed, so it should work with any 64 bit linux system. 2. We are making headway on our mobile technology. The android app for trustless, secure sending, is probably 30% to 40% done, being hammered out by our security/android expert. That is putting a heck of a lot of pressure on me to make the changes in the wallet for the mobile technology. Now that my new linux box is functional as a development environment, I should make some pretty quick headway on the wallet modifications. 3. Our designer is back! I guess I can name him because his design firm appears at the bottom of the StealthCoin web page. Sascha is a prolific designer and somewhat of a conceptual architect as well. He is single-handedly constructing a visual identity for StealthCoin while helping to create a organizational framework in which to put many of the development ideas that the team is working on. I don't know if I'm supposed to reveal it, but check out his work on the new blog: http://blog.stealth-coin.comWell, I'll stop now because I mostly wanted to show off my sweet linux build of the wallet tonight. We seem to be on track to deliver the mobile sending platform at the advertised time, even with the days I've lost to setting up my new workstation. -- Hondo Awesome! let me know if you want another 8 core server, I have thousands of them. I can setup Ubuntu, Centos or Windows server for you. I'm serious, please message me if you need some more server for this project. for just Hondo I usually drunk at night but will keep my promised when I woke up. Are you still drunk? My name is Hondo, I live in brazil
