Voted! (tho' i can't say who for cos it's a secret ballot)  Wink

btw just acquired my 1st, regrettably small, amount of Fibre - anyone know whether it's ok to stake the Fibre and BTCD wallets at the same time on the same machine or would that cause problems?

If BTCD's anon is so great, why does SuperNet need BBR?

If BTCD's anon is so great, why does SuperNet need BBR?

There was some discussion about this in BTCD slack:

Quote
[20:44] <js.galt> So, why has BTCD not made teleport accessible through the QT yet?
[20:44] <js.galt> writing an article as you may imagine.
[20:46] <jl777> the onramp/offramp needs to be made secure
[20:46] <jl777> without that protection it is too easy for people to make a mistake and lose privacy
[20:47] <jl777> so the InstantDEX + MGW is part of the solution along with BBR
[21:06] <js.galt> onramp/ offramp ?
[21:17] <jl777> from the public blockchain into the Teleport system
[21:46] <js.galt> what risks or threats is it vulnerable to?
[21:54] <jl777> bitcoin is fully identifiable so imagine having big brother find out exactly when and where you made a deposit into the teleport system (or withdraw)
[21:54] <jl777> it is like a windowless building with a door
[21:55] <jl777> and if you are coming in or out of that door, then the cameras can see you
[21:55] <jl777> once inside the building, then it is not visible
[21:55] <jl777> so the Teleport system is like the inside of the building
[21:56] <jl777> but the doors need to be made a bit more clever
[21:56] <jl777> like not having doors
[22:14] <js.galt> I want to clarify how I use the words security and privacy, so we can talk about the same things. Security to me means the degree to which you can keep others from taking your property. This includes pass words, and private keys.  since they represent exclusive control over 'things'.

Privacy means to what degree you can keep information from being leaked. You would still have the information, but so would people whom you don't want to share it with.

From your responce,  I gather this is a privacy / informaion leak issue.

So, assuming everyone was using tor and a vpn. would this onramp/oframp problem still exist?
[22:14] <js.galt> well, assuming tor was secure
[22:15] <jl777> tor has almost half a millions lines of code, I have no idea all the things it is doing, so I cannot speak to it. I do know that there are specific exploits using Tor to steal crypto, so Tor should not be used for crypto.
[22:16] <jl777> you are correct that I am talking about privacy
[22:16] <jl777> Tor is trying to solve a much harder problem, similar to an invisibility suit
[22:17] <jl777> they actually have these now where fiberoptics are bending the light around so it looks like you are seeing through it
[22:17] <jl777> but there are always seams
[22:17] <jl777> I think Tor is like that. for most uses it is fine, until its not.
[22:17] <jl777> so I made a design choice to not even try to be invisible out in the open
[22:18] <jl777> but by controlling the problem it is making it a much simpler task of creating a private "doorway"
[22:18] <jl777> like what if you didnt have to use the door at all?
[22:18] <jl777> the cryptonote tech is such a mechanism
[22:19] <jl777> so cryptonote into the windowless building and cryptonote out
[22:19] <jl777> now it is a way for privacy even with the entering and exiting
[22:19] <jl777> However, keep in mind that it is impossible for 100% privacy
[22:20] <jl777> you can always be put under physical surveillance
[22:20] <jl777> so my goal is to make it more cost effective to use physical surveillance than automatic capture the internet, treat everybody as guilty until lawyers are paid enough money world that we have now
[22:21] <jl777> it is against all decency for all communications to be monitored
[22:21] <jl777> and analyzed
[22:21] <jl777> and guilt presumed without any due process
[22:21] <jl777> and then if you are having the money, you can break all sorts of rules without any real consequence
[22:22] <jl777> if you dont have the money, then some harmless thing you are doing is equated to horrible crimes and maybe you are disappeared into some horrible place
[22:23] <jl777> using the internet is a great convenience, but there is the loss of privacy
[22:23] <jl777> so it is vital to make sure that all the steps are taken and then when it is all put together to be closely analyzed and tested
[22:24] <jl777> this is a process, but at least we are starting to fight back against the global surveillance state that we currently have
[22:28] <js.galt> amen
[22:28] <jl777> what was the question?
[22:28] <js.galt> its about raising reasonable doubt.
[22:28] <js.galt> haha
[22:29] <js.galt> uhm basically. is the information leak, ip correlation?
[22:32] <jl777> yes
[22:33] <jl777> ip <-> geolocation <-> you
[22:33] <jl777> so if ip <-> crypto account
[22:33] <jl777> this means crypto account <-> you
[22:38] <js.galt> ok, that works for me. Trying to picture how all of supernet works together in my mind, waw, its very complex.
[00:41] <leathan> lol
[00:41] <leathan> i laugh at myself when i try to picture it because of how bad i do it :S
[00:42] <leathan> fucked up data go everywhere!!! user insert key -> YAY
[00:42] <leathan> see.. i have to laugh :S
[01:01] <damon> leathan:
[04:01] <js.galt> lol
[04:01] <js.galt> jl777:  any thoughts on how to deal with blockchain bloat that seems inherant to cryptonote tech?
[09:29] <jl777> BBR has already implemented a way to keep the blockchain size down
[09:29] <jl777> but all the addresses are much longer and each tx is taking more space
[09:30] <jl777> havent analyzed it in detail though

Also some discussion in Bitcoindark BTT thread several pages back:

One can view BTCD and XRP as "liquidity" currencies... though BTCD also holds all the anon tech.

If BTCD "holds all the anon tech" what is the point of including Boolberry?
to anonymize the entry/exit into the Teleport system

the MGW will be creating telepods for users, so all telepods would just link back to the MGW acct.
However, there is still a vulnerability in getting the funds to the MGW. The sending out of the telepods is protected, but if the attacker can see that you paid X amount to MGW, well this is probably not good.

By using cryptonote to fund the MGW to send the telepods, I think this is a stronger anon setup.

James

Also it is good to have smart developers on the team.
