wallet was unlocked to stake......
if it has pass it will be locked for anyone that took it, btw coins are gone from wallet or wallet.dat gone It saddens me that people can do this. I had over 3K and now they are all gone. I got into this coin early. This was going to be money for my wedding. I feel sick to my stomach.

Hi all, Please tell us the way to safely stake our BTCD if you know. Thanks!
AFAIK you click on settings in wallet then click on encrypt wallet and create password, make sure password is 1: Strong 2: Unique 3: Copied to a safe location......This is most important, if you forget lose password you can't access your coins ( I stuffed my next password and it cost me heaps) After restarting wallet click on settings then unlock wallet. Enter password making sure the "For staking only" box is ticked you should now be staking safely. Make sure that you backup your wallet.dat file to a safe location Hope I've got it right and it helps Jon

That way I can reduce the chance of malicious programs touching my precious. It is rather easy to get keyloggers and rats on your computer nowadays from the internet.

Thanks all for helping on staking! I ticked "For staking only" box and now my wallet is encrypted and unlocked. If someone has my wallet, they need to know my passphrase to spend my BTCD, right? BTW, just 1/3 of my BTCD is staking now. Is there any idea on this process?

Yes that is correct. Even if they got access to the pc or had a copy of the wallet.dat they will need to know the password. It stakes them as the transactions that have come in. So they will stake at different times.

Sorry but with a total of 6 posts and all in this thread, seems a bit weird. You can't give your address until you come back from vacation? Exactly how do you know they are gone but can't provide info? I'm on vacation right now till Tuesday. What a great time for this to happen. I shut my PC down till then. I'll send you the address when I get back home.

also be very careful when downloading wallets of new coins. I never download a new coin's wallet as it might contain malwares that might steal wallet.dat of other coins. everybody is rushing to solo mine and downloads wallet last minute. I always mine in pools and leave my coins there for a couple of days, I read the forum in case someone posts some issues and then I download the wallet.

Guys, My wallet just got hacked!!! Is there anything I can do? I feel your pain buddy. I had something like 8000 XPM stolen at a time when they were worth over $10k. I had my wallet.dat cloned. What was worse was that I was mining heavily and had many immature blocks and spent a day "racing" the thief to see who could transfer the coins out first as they matured. My local wallet was encrypted and my machine was clean of trojans/viruses, so the conclusion I came to was that at some point early in my mining I had an unencrypted wallet.dat on a VPS somewhere and that I had left an image/instance alive, which was subsequently compromised. It would have been months after creating the wallet.dat that it got cloned and it was certainly encrypted the whole time other than the first minutes/hours when I started mining. Ah well. I then managed to delete a BTCD wallet.dat after a few days of mining by fat fingering a shift+delete. I don't remember exactly how much was in it, but I know it was well north of 20k, probably 24-25k. Of course they have gone up in value significantly too That crucified me and it took a lot of courage to buy some back. I now only hold a few k. I wanted a lot more, which is why I mined so frantically with leased and borrowed rigs, but I simply can't afford it now. Isn't crypto fun? Incidentally how much did you lose? Not that it matters, I'm sure it meant a lot to you no matter how much it was.

I have to wait till I get home to get my address because i then turned off my computer from TeamViewer and can't turn it back on till i get home

I personally think it is/was either...
(a) virus/trojan
(b) fud
If it was (a) then I truly feel for you I know I would be heartbroken if that was to happened to me. If its (b) then peeps have made better attempts to discredit BTCD and failed so carry on my friend.
But hey thats just my two cents, JJ
