How is treechains going? No news in a month

Karmala posts updates every 2 weeks to reddit and cross posts here.

Yes.
However, I could need some help from community members with finding and interpreting the updates on github. Please contact me if you want to help me with this. I (being a simple java coder for scientific tasks), find it rather difficult to tell a story from looking at the daily updates on github.

I second this - I have tried to read github and its all 0' and 1's to me. Only thing I really do get from github is development is happening and btcdrak is committing builds...

Is it just the pool I am on or was the last block over a day ago now...?

I'm guessing it is something to do with my pool rather than VIA itself...?

Got some coins that I mined that aren't maturing Sad

No, it means the pool failed to update as requested on Nov 1st for a planned hard fork three weeks later and has been out of sync ever since.

Sorry to hear that bigman. How many did you loose? The algo change made it much more profitable and predictable to mine via. Keep on mining man but choose another, more responsable, pool.

I received a note from CoinPayments.NET asking "We will be releasing a newsletter about the recent coins that were added to CoinPayments as well as some of the new features. Was wondering if you could provide 100-300 words to put in the newsletter about your coin."

Would any of you like to produce a draft as I don't have time to write anything atm.

Here's 130 words maybe someone could edit and add to it, ...

https://docs.google.com/document/d/14pX2r9ImyGt9ZItYvXWU6avEug_DFb5wLEQiGw4I24s/

Viacoin is an awesome coin that has a wealth of expertise, development and vibrant community behind it. Since its launch in July 2014 Viacoin has built its reputation around a framework that puts it in a favorable position for developers looking to implement asset based systems.

Based on Bitcoin blockchain technology Viacoin, is compatible yet not reliant on Bitcoin, it offers a robust ledger system that's mined in the same way as Bitcoin only using Scrypt technology making it attractive to home, pool and cloud based mining.

Viacoin is also the gold for the Clearinghouse protocol the same way as Bitcoin is the gold for Counterparty, except unlike Bitcoin, Viacoin offers stability and unrestricted development for the Clearinghouse protocol. Simply put Viacoin is gold where other altcoins are silver or copper.

Looks good Yingsena, I think the only thing your missing is a few key mentions regarding Viacoin's lightning transaction times.  Wink Other than that, great job.

We are all stardust.

it might be an idea not to call Via an 'altcoin', but a 'Bitcoin alternative'
Altcoin might have some negative associations. And: Is Via in competition with Altcoins or Bitcoin? I remember a tweet by Peter Todd referring to Bitcoin and Via.

Instead of 'awesome coin':
'Crypto currency'
'Bitcoin alternative'
'Fast flexible currency'
A 'fast flexible bitcoin alternative'

Should 'Treechains' be mentioned?

Viacoin is an open-source Bitcoin blockchain based open-source project that integrates ClearingHouse. ClearingHouse is a protocol that allows for asset issuance and p2p trading on the Viacoin blockchain.

Viacoin is absolutely not in competition with Bitcoin and neither do I believe any one product can gain 100% market share. I'll leave presentation and marketing to others. Viacoin complements the ecosystem and contributes to Bitcoin development. We sponsored work on BIP65 and the getting a working CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY patch (PR coming soon) which will be good for everyone. Viacoin has more freedom than Bitcoin because it's newer and has a smaller code base so we can also be more adventurous in our infancy. Bitcoin does not like embedded consensus whereas Viacoin was created specifically for embedded consensus, which comes in the form of ClearingHouse. This helps with "bitcoin scaling" because, just like "sidechains", viacoin aims at taking some of the transaction activity away from bitcoin and done on an alternative chain. Ostensibly the only difference between sidechains and other altchains is sidechains get their tokens from a 2 way peg to the bitcoin blockchain, as altcoins mint their own coins through mining.

You might be interested to know, Ethereum, in 2.0 at least (and there isn't even 1.0 yet) is planning a similar scaling exercise by being able to spawn many of altchains for specific purposes. So you can think of altcoins with a purpose, as helping with the scaling issues of bitcoin instead of trying to compete with bitcoin.
