Can someone explain the difference between what Via team is working on and what Bitcoin "sidechains" is to someone who is not a programmer please??

Is this a concern for the Via coin?

Sidechains refers to blockchain interoperability, that is, for one blockchain to be aware of another's state. This would allow for "transfer" of tokens from say BTC to a "sidechain".
A sidechain here simply means another blockchain by the way. The way a token could be moved is by freezing it on one chain and minting it on the other, then to send back, freezing/destroying the token and remobilizing the original coins.

Treechains are a different way of organising and mining a blockchain such that you dont need mining pools. Treechains can utilise sidechains. There is no competition per se, except that sidechains, as currently proposed exacerbate mining centralization.

There is good stuff in sidechains, but it does not remotely solve bitcoin's scalability issues while treechains does. There is good tech and ideas in the sidechains concepts and I am sure treechains will incorporate some of those. Token transfer for example would be possible with treechains.

Thank you for the explanation.  I didn't understand a thing..lol.... but I'm sure many here got a good answer and an honest technical answer.

Lol, compumine with tree chains you only need the history of the coins you own so no need to download huge 40GB blockchains like BTC, this would be great for mobile devices.
Also rather than everyone mining the same block at once (big companies with big hashing power wins) lots of different parts of the tree can be worked on by everyone so no centralised mining either Grin yay

sidechains are a way to transfer $100 from LTC blockchain to BTC blockchain, like an extra layer of software in the middle that keeps track of everyone doing this so there is no double spending and no coins are lost but all these blockchains will still be growing and mining will still become more centralised Sad

This is my understanding compressed into few sentences Smiley

At the moment I see one last exit opportunity of 20,000 Via at 12k, then it's sub 10k (where I am waiting for you) Grin

Angry at yourself for not selling as soon as we went sub 20k, furious you didn't sell into the buy wall yesterday?

History is made by those who act, not those who stand by.

By the way, what's next? Since we finished the blockchain notary and have successfully upgraded the network, the next task is the CustodyChains protocol.
OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY is still going through peer review and we also need to think about the necessary soft fork for that.
Additionally we spent time testing and running simulation regarding the difficulty switching algo. This is being rolled out on testnet at block 300000 to see how it works in practice. We'll be directing real mining at it to see how it copes. This is because the DWG3 algo overreacts - the aim is to make it much smoother with less variance.

might be better if we could have a dedicated section on the website or something where we can see whats next. just my 2 via

I remember you were enthusiastic in the community, but now it is not older you. Roll Eyes

Do you get free epeso, just get it, if Philippines government adopts this coin, VIA/XCH will go to the moon!

haha, yes we are both old timers of this brand new coin, i also remember back then (last week) Cheesy lol

I also got my epasos but Im still unsure if it is legitimate, the op states that they hope the coin will be adopted by the government... I hope it ihappens though Smiley

I'm still enthusiastic, Via is may favourite long term alt, half my capital is still locked in it but I read darwins theory of evolution, nash's game theory and nakamoto's reasons for creating bitcoin in the first place so I suffer no illusions of 'for the common good', this exists only in fairy tails, we are individual selfish evil human beings and everything we do is for ourselves though it is unfortunate that reality is constructed in this manner Undecided

I still hope to see the price reach 10k Wink

I moved my order from 12k to 10k, seems like a wise choice given the current climate, also no word from the bitmessage camp about any progress with their implementation of treechains (which im really looking forward to so i can say goodbye to traditional email forever) so i should imagine tc for Via is months away at least, and since 80% of the coins value has been lost already I should think this is going to get worse before it gets better Cry

Hodl anything you want these days. It will go down

That's about right.

Doesn't matter how good an idea is or how technically brilliant, unless there is a real world need for the coin to be used to purchase essentials, it is just a speculative experiment. That is how Bitcoin started.

The plain truth is that very very few coins will survive.

Please cut out the histrionics.

VIA is only three months old.  XCH is even younger, and already tapped as a potential platform for the new electronic Philippine peso.

Smartchain applications like ZOOZ and Overstock are likewise still in the larval stage.

And PT has only just begun preliminary work on treechains.

If you need instant gratification, go play outside with your little friends for about three years, then check back in to see what progress the adults have made.   Tongue

Clearinghouse is indeed faster than Counterparty, thanks to Viacoin.

But I like to point out that sending Viacoins or any asset more than two at a time, you get json or timeout errors. Hence, our distribution is slow.

Got an error when trying to sync VIA balances: JSON-RPC Error:

Type: Invalid params

Code: -32602

Message: UNSPECIFIED

By the way, what is the github of Clearinghouse web wallet? Can we build from there our ePeso mobile wallet? Thanks.

Forget it son, if you want to troll this thread you're going to need to do it with more finesse than that. Use my previous posts as learning material Cool
Short term yes it is likely the price may drop but there is no question as to the long term success of this little gem Wink

Hm, there should be a way to issue to multiple addresses per block, devs?
