Give him some time and he will deliver.  

Dev's should never put deadlines on any coding project because you never know what problems will arise. (especially something as complicated as bitkey)

He doesn't have to put up deadlines, but he does have to give some updates. This way people just leave and never look back. That is what is happening right now.
