good job on the pool/website

tanx fastlan ...

a few changes will be coming with those also - if we can get it finished ...

a new wallet is being released this weekend also ... some code change and irc integration to the official granite irc channel ( ##granite ) built into the wallet ...

testing has proven it works well for standard irc - BUT - the responses of the irc bot dont seem to come through and we are working on that ...

ie - you will see the command ( eg - !balance ) within the wallet irc client - but not the out put the bot within irc sends ...

we are working on getting a multi algo pool running ( yaamp or yiimp clone ) - but that seems to be slowed quite a bit ...

although a multi-algo granite mining system is on the cards and being investigated ...

with this type of pool - a single grn address is used and you mine with what ever available algo is on the pool at the time ... so far - the three big algos ( sha256 - scrypt - x11 ) are the base algos - but we are looking at a few others ... hence the poll at the top of the thread ... looks like quark and lyra2v2 is next on the list ...

unlike the current pool we have - which is based on mpos ( more of a single coin pool - grn-pool.granitecoin.com ) - this pool is more than likely going to be based on unomp ...

hehehe ...

i think its all about not losing faith in yourself - and not losing focus ...

it WILL happen - its just a matter of consistent persistence ...

especially if you believe in it with all you have - like i do with granite and the ecosystem im building around it - then it WILL get somewhere ...

even if it takes longer than you exepct ...

tanx for your support and input - its very much appreciated ...

new wallet will be released this weekend as testing is now finished ...

hi all ...

we have been working towards a release of the new wallet with irc integration to the official granite channel ( ##grante ) - and will have that release tomorrow ( sunday ) for windows only for the time being ...

there is no osx version as yet - and are working towards getting a reliable source to keep the osx versions compiled and published ...

the linux version can be built for you if requested - but will be a static build which i can supply within an hour of request ... otherwise - the git has the updated code for you to compile a dynamic build ( or static if you know how ) for your linux distribution ...

if you have any questions - please ask ... ill help with anything i can - especially if its getting a successful build ...

which leads me to the newest update of the change in code ... there are now three seednodes hardcoded into the wallet ... this means that the permanent nodes that are available currently - will be accessible from all the newest wallets ...

- seednode1.granitecoin.com ...
- seednode2.granitecoin.com ...
- seednode3.granitecoin.com ...

since we have been building and stabilizing the backend - we really didnt have any issues with syncing since the permanent seednodes have been up and running stable ... but in order to alleviate any situations where syncing and connectivity may become an issue ( as i have seen with a few other coins ) - the three permanent seednodes have been hardcoded into the wallets ...

the links will be updated tomorrow for you to download the new wallets ...

so please do upgrade to the new wallet and join in the chat and local updates on the official granite irc channel - all through your wallet ...

we are now working on the official granite forum also - and will start to publish the updates more on the official granite forum - than here ...

more to come soon ...

hi all ...

the new wallet is available for download from the link below - or grab it from the link in the op which is being updated now ...

as has mentioned int he previous post - this is a windows release and it would be appreciated if you could test the irc functionality within the wallet ...

we do know of one issue that we are looking into - and that is the bot results are not displaying in the wallet circ client ... working on locating where the issue is and resolving it ... apart from that issue - all seems to be functional so far ...

other additions are hyperlinks to other areas of the granite ecosystem - like the website - twitter - as well as current and ( hopefully ) future exchanges ...

enjoy this release - as there is more to come ...

Great work!

tanx thefix ...

there will be a few smaller changes - then a major change ... not only to the wallet - but the entire system ...

if all things work as well as id like them to - we will have a very functional wallet and coin that can be useful in more ways than just mining and trade ...

thefarm will be part of it also ... but that will be much farther down the track ...

im glad it works well for you also - as i have both linux native and windows native running on the same linux machine ( fedora 23 x64 ) ...

discussions tomorrow - and next week regarding what the inclusions are going to be for the next update ...

tanx again for testing this out ...

come join us on our official irc channel - ##granite ( double hash ) ...

we are always raining grn on the channel and discussing many things crypto related ...

soon to have theforum full operational too ...

hope to see you ( and all ) there ...

hi all ...

if you are a regular user of granitepool - you may see some cosmetic changes made to it ...

today was the first day of the changes - and hopefully for the life of the pool ... at least - thats what we are aiming at ...

this is all happening for one main reason ... a new pool ...

a new pool that has better features and has a more rich backend with a solid foundation to build on ... more on that when its done and open for testing ...

for the moment - some of the changes that have been sorted have been a few in the front end - and mostly in the backend and configuration of granitepool ...

below is a list of the items that have been changed ...

frontend / cosmetic ...

- name changed from GraniteCoin to granite in pool header ...
- logo replaced in the welcome screen when clicking the 'home' menu ...
- the instructions in the 'getting started' page are now corrected with the right domain ( it was granitecoinx.com - now granitecoin.com ) ...
- the dashboard now has the exchange grn / btc ticker totem - even though it doesnt seem to function for the moment - but its there and will be fixed as soon as we can figure what is happening with the bleutrade api ...
- pool frontend should load and refresh a lot faster now - with a longer time for page to stay up ... that is the result of one of the backend changes ...

system / admin ...

- the wallet daemon has been compiled and updated to the latest v1.0.2.0 ...
- blockchain data and info being extracted from the granited daemon and from https://chainz.cryptoid.info/grn/ ...
- coins have been allocated in the wallet for cold storage - as too many users are using the pool as an online wallet ... which is fine for the time being - but all users will be required to move their funds off the pool in the next couple of weeks ... the amount held in the pools cold wallet is a cool 7million grn Wink ... so we urge you all to withraw your coins as soon as you can ... we dont want to be holding this much for much longer ...
- the refresh for the site is now at 5second intervals for the statistics and data - eg hashrates ... 5minutes for the average share statistics ...
- graphing days are kept to 25days - block statistics at 70days ...
- hashrate modifiers now showing in MH/s not KH/s ...
- google analytics has now been activated for the pool ...
- date settings changed to australian standard - day / month / year / hour / minute / seconds ...
- irc channel for support updated to the official irc channel - ##granite ( grnbot is back in that channel also ) ...

backend / technical ...

- naming conventions have all been standardized to 'granite' and not 'GraniteCoin' in the pool ...
- payout amounts are at 7 minimum and 7000 maximum ...
- minimum manual payment has been lowered to 0.7grn ...
- minimum donation has been lowered to 0.7% ...
- transaction fees for both manual and auto have been lifted to 0.07grn from the previous 0.01grn ... this is to cover ALL transactions - no matter how big or small ...
- BONUS REWARDS have now been set - and are active as of this post ... explained below in more detail ...
- payout transaction limits have been increased to 700 transactions for both manual and automatic transactions per run ... the limit is set so the RPC wont get overloaded ...
- round purging has been set to 70000 with a 7second sleep - to allow a reduction in the load of the database ...
- archiving settings have changed to 25 maximum rounds and a period of 60 * 52 ( 52days ) ...
- ZERO POOL FEES - pool fees have been terminated altogether ...
- cookies duration have been set to 21607seconds - which allows uninterrupted pool monitoring without being logged out ...
- system load setting has been set to 7.0 ... this means that some api calls will be disabled if the load gets above this - to allow smoother operation of granitepool ...

------- ------- -------

BONUS REWARDS ...

the bonus rewards works two ways - 'block finder bonus' and 'pool finder bonus' ...

the 'block finder bonus' ( your worker bonus ) is set at 7% of the amount of grn that a block pays ... when a worker finds a block - the block bonus is paid to THAT worker ( which at the current rate at time of posting - 100grn / block means an EXTRA 7grn for every block your miner finds ) ...

the 'pool finder bonus' is a similar bonus that gets paid at the same 7% for THE WHOLE POOL - split over the workers at the time ... this bonus is in addition to the 'block finder bonus' ...

so when you mine and check in the 'transactions' menu - under 'my account' - you wont see any more of these ---

406301 2015-12-04 08:05:07 Fee Unconfirmed 245631 0.43087971 ( not long before posting ) ...

and more of these ---

406368 2015-12-04 10:26:07 Bonus Unconfirmed 245676 7.00000000 ( my worker found a block ) ...
406374 2015-12-04 10:26:07 Bonus Unconfirmed 245676 2.63947078 ( extra bonus across the pool workers ) ...

so where is all this extra grn coming from to pay for the bonus reward payments? ... from the pool fund itself - NOT from the block reward ...

bonus grn coming from our pockets ... its just a way of giving back to the miners - for mining at our very own granitepool ...

below is an official explanation from the MPOS documentation - in verbatim ... for the technically inclined of course ...

-------

Block Bonus

Payout a block bonus to block finders, this bonus is paid by the pool operator, it is not deducted from the block payout! 0 = disabled

Default Values:
block_bonus  =  0

block_bonus
This bonus is paid by the pool operator, not from the block!

---

Pool Bonus

Payout a general bonus to all your miners. By default, this is based on their payouts and will pay out an additional percentage to their income. This will be covered from your liquid assets! As a payout time, you can either chose payout or block. Block will payout the same percentage based on the block value to all miners! So setting this to 1% on a 50 block reward pays 5 coins per user from your liquid assets! Payout based bonuses only pay a bonus total to the block values percentage.

Default Values:

pool_bonus       =  0
pool_bonus_type  =  payout

-------

these system settings and changes from the frontend to the backend have been initiated implemented and finalized - so that we can prepare for the new granitepool that is about to be built ... in fact - the new granitepool is one of the new pools to built - but more on that when it comes to public testing ...

the new granitepool may look very similar - but will have some features and code changes to make it a more versatile pool for the admin - and the user / miner alike ...

this is still very much the prelude of a much bigger system for granite - and the integration of each component into it ... from wallet to pool to donation systems to theforum to thefarm ... its all here for the setup and infrastructure to build a bigger and better granite ecosystem ...

so spread the word to come and mine here at granitepool ... http://grn-pool.granitecoin.com/ ...

your comments and feedback are always encouraged and very welcome ... the more miners - the more blocks - the more bonus ... and much more to come ...

granite ...

hi all ...

the ticker has been fixed and is currently working away without any issue ...

the ticker shows the price of grn / btc pair at the last price from bleutrade - where grn is exchanged ...

tanx for the coding skills and effort of an irc veteran - the one known as xisi - this ticker was fixed in a matter of minutes ...

mine well everyone ... there is much more to come ...

Hi granite-ites, just voted on the multi algo question and wanted to leave my two cents..

I always thought it would be good to have a coin that could be mined with both types of ASICs as well as FPGA, GPU and CPU. You pretty much have it covered with x11/sCrypt/Sha256d. So whats left is choosing a CPU algo that doesn't have any gpu miners built for it or one that would be difficult for gpu miners to be created. Momentum may be a possibility. Modified primecoin is another one. What would be perfect is to come up with a new algo that relies on CPU instructions to work. Something that uses only say SSE2 or AVX2. Its beyond my understanding so I can't say if this will work or if it is even possible.

this is a method we have looked at for a while now ...

being a miner - i understand the importance of such a decision and the weight it has on mining in general ...

the consideration is threefold ...

first - there is the idea ( which you have made also ) in creating a 'left field' out of the provision of gpu style algo and run with that ...

second - the idea that we stick with the algo we have ( which is a rock solid algo - especially for gpu ) - or if we are to change to another algo - change to one that is just as popular ... like quark or lyra2v2 or neoscrypt ...

third - dont change at all ( which is more towards where im leaning ) and instead - create a multipool that allows the mining and conversion of algos for granite ... which covers the majors you have mentioned AND allows us to mine in various other algos and still maintain a good stance with with crypto coins in the market as well as ours ...

there are issues with all these points - which we wont go too in depth with ... but for the most part - the first two require a great deal of coding and hardforking the coin / wallet ... this is obviously not a major issue - as many coins fork and do so quite smooth - even our mothercoin bitcoin ...

hardforking may happen anyway as part of the growth of the code - and some of the features we are looking at implementing within the framework of the granite code may require it as part of the progression ... so we are definitely looking at these concepts ...

the third concept means that we will involve a number of other coins into the mix - but on a pool basis ... this in itself is a lot of work - but for the most part - is the 'easier' way to go by means of coding ... its still a feat by any means to run a large exchange multipool ... but it also means that we require the skillset of devs that have had experience in this method ( in fact - experience with multipools period ) and require their on-going assistance ...

the only issue that i see with this is simply that most exchanged multipools mine certain coins and dump the mined coins as immediate sell orders on the exchanges ... that is NOT what we are about - and certainly NOT what i personally think is a good thing for the crypto community as a whole ... ive been mining for too long in this industry to know that ... the plus side is that we can start really getting involved with other coins - which is a great thing to do ... im involved with a few coins now - and will continue to grow the help and friendships that come of such alliances ... especially if they involve generous companies like crypto cloud hosting and the project they have been working on ...

the lean towards a multipool with a single granite payout via exchanged coins is because it is better to have a number of coins being EXCHANGED and TRADED rather than dumped onto exchanges for another coin ...

so the search for a dev ( or team ) that can do such a thing - that allows the conversion of coins on a TRADED basis - is what we would be looking for if we moved in that direction ... the big bonus to that is - that the dev involved would get continuous work AND we can add algos as time progresses ...

in any case - ive been looking at a number of ways - and the addition of cpu / asic / fpga centric algos is a very good suggestion ...

tanx for you input ...

Not sure there is enough volume.

have you seen the majority of the coins on there? ...

want to talk about lack of volume Smiley ... hehehe ...

of course - you are correct in that the volume for grn is not there yet ... but im working so much and so hard to get things moving pallas ...

its a matter of time - effort - and commitment to sticking with the plans i have for the granite ecosystem - not just the coin ...

lets hope that all can be done in the next few months into the new year - as i will be non-stop to make sure that this is given every chance to succeed ...

if we remain on bleutrade - so be it ... its been a good platform for us - and they have supported us in everyway ...

Not sure there is enough volume.

have you seen the majority of the coins on there? ...

want to talk about lack of volume Smiley ... hehehe ...

of course - you are correct in that the volume for grn is not there yet ... but im working so much and so hard to get things moving pallas ...

its a matter of time - effort - and commitment to sticking with the plans i have for the granite ecosystem - not just the coin ...

lets hope that all can be done in the next few months into the new year - as i will be non-stop to make sure that this is given every chance to succeed ...

if we remain on bleutrade - so be it ... its been a good platform for us - and they have supported us in everyway ...

i appreciate your kind sentiments fastlan ...

there is still much to be done - even with the all the things that has been finished ... much of the basis of granite have shown their face - and have born fruit ...

but there are many plans the have only just started - and many many more that have yet to be initiated ...

i will be the first to admit - that had it not been for the help from people ( like pallas ) - even if it was just advice - then granite would still be a fair way back along the path of development ...

there is still much to be done as mentioned - and some changes have taken place over the course of the last few months ... from the granite coin - to the granite infrastructure - to the granite development and community ( the granite ecosystem ) - the foundation is becoming set in concrete as we work towards building the entire ecosystem around the infrastructure we are building currently ...

i have recently ( as recent as yesterday ) changed some of the code that granite lives off ... its been more maintenance and cleanup more that coding itself ... but there are changes that differ from the way granite used to function ... this has happened in the way of fixing of some code - cleanup of unneeded parts - and starting the change of naming convention ...

compiled versions will now be compiled with the naming convention 'granite' and not 'GraniteCoin' ... character coding has been changed so that both qt4 and qt5 can be compiled with the same name and without errors like it had only yesterday ...

so - the output will be as follows in a linux system - with windows having an .exe extension ...

- qt4 : granite-qt ...
- qt5 : granite-qt ...
- daemon : granited ...

these changed are only the first step - as the GraniteCoin name is an instric part of the code currently ... this means that the home folder will still be called GraniteCoin and the configuration file still GraniteCoin.conf ... the complete overhaul of the code will take place as changes happen and testing occurs - so there wont be any requirement for a forced upgrade to the wallet or daemons just yet ... the one other change is the versioning for the peers - where it will also read as granite ...

ie - getpeerinfo will show this -

"subver" : "/granite:1.0.2/",

instead of this -

"subver" : "/GraniteCoin:1.0.2/",

here is the test systems showing on the network on chainz - https://chainz.cryptoid.info/grn/#!network ... you will have to actually click on the network tab - as bitcointalk doesnt launch the whole url ...

its all happening slowly as we progress through it all ... name convention is obviously only the very tip and start of the trail down the iceberg ... but it is necessary to make the code simple and stable - to make granite solid and uniform in more than just name ...

thefarm ( nvidia ) and farmamd ( amd ) are also undergoing an huge revamp ... although thefarm will be the entity which exists with granite currently - farmamd has become exclusive to development and testing for the developer that has worked in tandem with me on many things farmwise ... wolf0 ...

this does NOT mean that wolf0 is working exclusively with us - but farmamd is now a separate entity to the ecosystem - and is exclusively for the use of wolf0 ... unless things change and agreements finalize - this situation will remain steadfast ...

thefarm however is forming into a nice modular part of granite ... it will be updated - optimized - enhanced - and integrated into the ecosystems so that the entire ecosystem can benefit from it ... this includes the devs and community also ...

graniteforum is also getting a boost in use ... i shall be updating more on theforum than i will on bitcointalk for all things granite ... with the prospect of moving all updates and discussion items there eventually ... http://granitecoin.com/forum/ ...

dbm - the donation mining system - will also be getting a revamp and will become an integral part of granite when its time comes ... this is an important part of the ecosystems - as it gives back to the devs of the community when miners donate their mining hash ... so miners - please donate some hash power to the benefit of the devs of your choice ... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1089744 ...

i will be unavailable for the next few days for any work on the systems - but i will be online when i can with skype and theforum ... irc will be inaccessible to me during that period of time ...

the current code is in git - so please be my guest to clone and compile and test the newer code ... just make sure to backup your wallet and conf file - and always have the previous stable version of the wallet at hand ...

tanx again ...
